alex: like...prisons? i don't know what that means - if it's what do they look like, just think about the most modern prison you've ever seen and ours are like that - giant central buildings with walled-in courtyards, an attached medbay for taking care of minor injuries, a cafeteria for meal prep, exercise area, laundry and all of that - except we naturally use more advanced metals and metamaterials in their construction and instead of bars, we use forcefields to keep people contained - and each cell has its own individual generator so if there's a power outage or sabotage, we don't end up having a mass breakout situation...something else starfleet could learn from
though, i should also point out that we don't really have many prisons, because advances in medical and psychological sciences mean we can identify trouble before it becomes an issue and fix it, and for the few that slip through, we try to rehabilitate as much as possible
