Because Cryptic didn't say no to a T5 Constitution, ludicrous as such a thing might be (T3 maybe, T4 at the outside - but a Rear Admiral's vessel??). Cryptic took our requests to CBS, who holds the rights to everything Trek. CBS said no. And whining to Cryptic, or your fellow players, about it will get you exactly nowhere.

I am not whining to my fellow players or Cryptic...I am trying to get people who are interested to get into action. I can send letters to Cryptic and CBS but it's just one man. I can be ignored.
However if we as a fan base organize and create "TOS Tuesdays" or something like that. How long can they continue to say no when ESD is full of TOS Uniforms...or ESD space is full of Connies...people pvping for a day in Connies...a screenshot of that sent to CBS will work 100 times better than any letter.

All I ask is for a tall ship and a star to sail her by.....Captain Kirk is my first captain of the Enterprise....would he ever take no for an answer?

There are multiple podcasts from Geko linked in the Galaxy thread. How did you miss them?
There are over 500 pages in that thread, last time I checked. I only started posting around the 300 mark (aka, missed the podcasts by months or even years).
CBS didn't BAN anything. They said no to DStahl's question years ago. They just said no they don't want the ship in the game. That's not a ban.

CBS said they didn't want the Connie in the game.
Cryptic must abide by CBS's instructions in order to (maintain the license?).
    Thus, it's a ban.
And there's nothing illegal going on.
If Cryptic defies CBS and does its own thing, that would be breaking whatever legal contract they have. Breaking the contract is not legal.
CBS said no to DStahl a few years ago. So now it's a ban and is illegal?
    Yes, that's correct.

Just be patient. This entire issue gets re-evaluated after the third film, and after Bad Robot and its licensing issues get sorted.

    Yes, that's correct.

Then as stated above, you really don't understand what the word illegal means. Hope you get your ten forward windows situation sorted out!

How could they bring the TOS Constitutions back in service when there were only 12? IRC almost all were lost. TMP refits maybe...but not the original TOS 12.

There was a lot more than 12 Constitutions. Kirk's line was in service at the time, which meant that specific time (2267). Only the Enterprise, the Constellation, the Defiant, and the Intrepid were lost or destroyed. The Excalibur can be counted in there too. That's half of the ships listed at Memory Alpha and they don't even consider a USS Constitution or other Encyclopedia identified ships, which would bring the count to 18.

This is a cyclic argument. Please refer to my above post(s).

Thanks! Glad to know people are aware of the issue and are supporting a change.

I'd support that, seems like it would be a lot of fun! :) It'll at least give me a reason to take my old T1 Connie out of drydock for a while. :)

I wouldn't mind that, as long as our endeavours are somehow recorded and sent over to CBS.

    There was no podcast.

It's a comment made by Daniel Stahl. It's not really linkable because it was made two website iterations ago and is all now lost to "archived post."

But it's probably preserved somewhere on the wiki.

Figures I'd have to go look for it...anyone know how far back have to look?

and the beauty of TOS days is that we can open it up to fans of the other series...TOS Mondays, TNG Tuesdays, DS9 Wednesdays, Voyager Thursdays, Enterprise Fridays...

WWII battleships had toilets. The original Connie had no bathrooms.
Au contraire, mon frere. I have a set of 'floorplans' (deckplans) somewhere in my dusty archives, and I distinctly recall seeing washroom facilities. Just cause we never got a peek at Kirk's 'loo...

When TNG launched they yanked the game license on FASA because the game was too violent and they wanted to take star trek into a more tree hugging, politically correct, we are the world, smelly hippie direction.

In doing so they pissed off tens of thousands of star trek fans. CBS didn't care, and the fans had to deal with it.

I remember CBS' commentary back then was that they didn't like the artwork in the game.

And then Gene piped in with how he hated 3 nacelled ships.

The "I'm just one man, I can be ignored" argument doesn't fly where CBS is concerned.

CBS had nothing to do with the Star Trek IP when "The Next Generation" launched in 1987.

Paramount was still owned by Gulf-Western at the time, and wasn't purchased by Viacom until 1994.

i would enjoy a T5 Connie, however there is a small problem.. its a bit... small

compared to other ships its length, they generally carry smaller crews, and are a bit bulkier.
this may be due to having thicker plating (look at that thin neck and pylons of the Connie), and more room put to more essential labs or computers.

what i think would be viable, is making a larger ship (about the size of a ambassador, or Excelsior? maybe bit smaller or bigger) with a look very similar to that of a Connie.

it won't be a Connie as it was in Kirks time, But a larger, stronger, and new, ship influenced by the design of the Connie

Yeah, I doubt the Corbomite Maneuver would work on the Borg. If it wasn't a bluff, then they lost one Cube and would know better to not mess with the Federation. If it was a bluff, then they assimilated the Enterprise. Win-win situation as far as the Borg are concerned. All that video proves is that we need to buff the Borg so that they aren't destroyed by 23rd Century Phasers.

It's bigger than the Saber, Nova and Defiant, all already at T5. And is comparable to the D7 and bigger than the T'Varo. Again all already at T5.

    Size isn't an issue.
    they generally carry smaller crews

You know what the crew size on my Kumari is?

    85 people.

It's a pretty decent ship in terms of T5 functionality. But is kind of small. And has a tiny crew.
