There is a firefox add-on that somebody made. It changes the forum almost to what it was before the changes. I really recommend it. See the last few pages of the big thread under Galactic news announcements.

There is also a mod add-on for chrome.

(This message was in a thread in general discussion, so it probably won't make sense if stuff is merged).

Go through the steps, and it will solve your eye strain problems.

Does anyone else have eye trouble reading? Are you getting headaches as well or is it just me and I should see the doctor?

No. Nothing. The old forum was white letters on a black background. The new forum is white letters on a dark gray background. The difference in terms of visual display is quite minimal. If you are experiencing headaches or pain in your eyes, you should see your eye doctor. Could be something completely unrelated to these forums. Could just be you spend too much time reading computer screens in general. That does lead to eyesight issues.

But I'm just guessing as I'm not an eye doctor. Consult a professional. Get it looked at. Hope it's nothing serious.

hey rinkster, based on a lot of your posts I have read in the last few weeks, you are pretty "upset" :D

    LOL

More like something I wrote in another thread.

If the devs were sat in frontof me right now, I'd look at them sadly for a while before lowering my eyes and muttering "I'm very disappointed in you"

And, no, you can't haz my stuff :P

Every time a forum changes, the users cry foul. It a couple years, they will change again, and we'll see these same post.

    Nope, I'm good.
You're right. The work here is very important.

I love the forums and I have Always loved engaging with you fellow forumites, but I can't take this much more - my eyes hurt and I get a massive headache after a few minutes.

Does anyone else have eye trouble reading? Are you getting headaches as well or is it just me and I should see the doctor?

It's normal that, whenever we encounter an unfamiliar text in the place of a familiar one, and when we look at it for a long time, then some eye strain is expected.

However, the font and colour contrast changes are causing me to have to adjust my posture, in order to be able to read them through my bifocals.

Yes, I'm that old, Doctor said I need trifocals but at what point do I just need a compound eye?

    But I digress.

As usual its a change that signficently disadvatages a minority.

    Expect no changes or acknowledgement.

Well I shall spend some time after my eyes recuperate and my headache stops - reading some other online material and see if it makes any difference.

I have contrast issues so its not right for me to judge the color, even though the black background was much easier for me and anyone with any eye issues.

My only real beef is the font seems smaller and/or different in a way I find more difficult. Is it more compressed? Is it just a poor choice of font?

I did size it up in my browser but its still not as eye friendly as it was.

Why fix something that isn't broken?

I know I'll be reading the forums less than before. I imagine I'm not alone.

Yup, the change to the forum only bothers the small minority that uses the forum.

Hey now, the standard boilerplate "we're closely monitoring your feedback" which translates into English as "We're pointedly ignoring anything we don't want to hear while we wait for a couple of high-fives to thank people for" is indeed an acknowledgement. ;)

    Short version: It's called "nepotism."

Long version: Some high-level executive's spouse has a nephew/niece who just graduated with a degree in web design from some mediocre online school, and said spouse "loudly hinted" that someone could be living on their own couch if they didn't get the kid a job. :D

The second point comes down to the opinion of a developer who had worked with the company for under a year when he suggested that if lockboxes (which are the core monetization strategy of these games) are made illegal in small markets, PWE might pull out of those markets rather than drop its core business strategy. I don't think any of that indicates an indifference to losing customers. It indicates that one employee thought PWE would do a cost/benefit analysis with regard to laws and regulations.

I just wish people would just let this one go tho. It's been blown way out of proportion enough.

    Stoleviathan, very tactfully handled sir.

The only problem I see is the different size of fonts, you have some very small size 8.5 and then others 10 the 8.5 tend to blend with the background making it hard to read.

it's taking some getting used too. it's not awful but I don't think it's an improvement. I thought a forum revamp should have looked more LCARS.

Actually, to be fair this time, it is only a fraction of the firum users who will find this difficult in the medium term.

    Your young eyes will adapt.

My old, decrepit ones, have a bit more trouble.

And I think (if they'll pardon me) Shpoks and HippieJon are in my boat.

It seems that the same old "it hurts my eyes" arguement has resurfaced. When the icons for weps shields consoles etc were changed ingame there was this exact same debate about them as there is about the forum change. The icon change didn't bother me, and the forum change doesn't bother me.

The debate about the forum will go on for a couple of weeks, just like the icon debate did, and like that debate, this one will fizzle out in a week or so too.

I think they just want it to be like others ARC games. Probably because it's easier for them, and for players from PWE game to check their other games. If you use the "back to game news", you are redirected to the ARC page, instead of what we used to have, which is exactly the same across all the ARC games, except for the news, obviously.

In short, ARC have assimilated the website, and all resistance is futile.

So when things cause us pain, we are to just sit there and take it? This white text with the dark background is terrible on the eyes.

And you bring up those stupid icon revamps. You know what, I still can't tell them apart because of how everything blends in together. I only stopped complaining about it, because Cryptic doesn't care about their customers to respond to their earnest cries for help. Just wonder how many people actually left the game because of it?

I'm not comfortable reading the smaller point fonts being used for the forum at this time. This grey text on the more gray background -as seen inside the reply box - isn't, IMO, user friendly. This white font in the final post looks better - but needs to be a point or two larger. I can't read this whiter font at all while inside the reply box.

I find having to login manually each and every time I visit the forum to be more time consuming than it's worth. I'm also missing the ability to simply click the games logo to be automatically logged in.
