I like the Featured episode...honestly wasn't expecting Cooper to be an Undine, despite me getting a wee bit annoyed at him....
The Science vessel lover in me is utterly DROOLING at the prospect of flying this monster once I have the Qmendations(spelling?)...oddly, I had no difficulty at all in chasing down the MiniQ's...the longest one stayed away from me was maybe 6 seconds. *shrug*
Just Played it. the mission has to be the best one I have played so far. tuvok is best voice over to date for me anyway.
I wern't gona bother with the ship didn't think it was gna be cop for an engineer, but it was good without any of my builds so I think anyone can make this ship work really well so im up for tuning this into a good little fighter.
I was Playing the mission when the server went crash...but I was enjoying it...
But for a second there I forgot one litle thing...
It was and is a SINGLE PLAYER MISSION!!! WTH craptic??? This feels already to much as a single player game...and noww you give us ANOTHER single player mission? in a MMO?!?
I dont get it...every feature episodes before...the devidians...the breen...etc were MULTIPLAYER...you know? Its one of the M's in MMO...
And now...you give us anoter Single player mission..
Good job making the mission, but...very bad on the single player part
Ahhhh! Dr.Cooper is an Undine.!.
Huge plot twister for me
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "This is Fleet Commander BumBle!..
Vice Admiral of the U.S.S. Prometheus!..
I order you to lower your shields and weapons or ill be forced to fire upon you!!!"
You have the rest of the game to play with your friends. And considering how much the powercreep is toward fleet, I don't see the whine.
1 mission (representing probably less than 1% of the actual game content) will not hurt you.
didn't like the new fed ship on first impression. give a few more tries and see how that goes. gonna go try the RR side now and see how that holds up and KDF after.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Absolutely in love with this new mission. Feels Trek without being tired, the cameos (Tuvok and the flagships) were on point, and the set pieces were epic enough inspire.
As for the mission itself, i actually really liked it. I had to restart it at one point when it locked me out of the Voth fight in the security room, but overall it was enjoyable. the Tuvok stuff was enjoyable, and the EV suit part was really nice. They should go with that flight mode rather than the stupid posts.
I'm really disappointed though, that the daily mission is the lame mini Q mission, rather than being something tied to the Anniversary mission.
The voice of Cooper is the same as the Undine infiltrator who replaced Sokketh, so is he the same Undine? It'd be funny to think he alone was running around causing all this trouble. Also, I wonder if the Hirogen are still hunting the Undine, they certainly considered them worthy prey before.
The boss being a gigantic Winter Epohh Researcher. As you lay waste to the Epohh Horde, she can occasionally cry out things like, "Didn't you want an Epohh friend?"
I expected Cooper to be an undine when I first met him. I'm not Sherlock Holmes, but everytime in a videogame you have a coward, always complaining with an irritating voice, he is the mole/bad guy. Writers do that because it's unexpected.
Every single time. Remind me how the cop's chief or spy's boss was always guilty in tv shows/movies for a while. Because it was supposed to be unexpected.
It's the source of the beam that kills the Dyson's captain. Supposed to be invisible, but on some graphics settings (particularly lower ones) it's visible. There's a few other missions with fancy effects where on low settings you can see ghosts like this that generate them. There's one inside the console at the end of Sphere of Influence, and a few more around the generator puzzle later in this mission.
So, i've done the mission (twice) and Party Patrol (twice). Given that that is all there is to this year's anniversary event, my thoughts thus far.
A Step Between Stars
+ It's fun, it's interesting and it (finally) progresses the story in a meaningful way. + Unlike the previous Anniversary FE, you get to test the ship that relates to your character's faction. + Tim Russ' voice acting is great, and he's a credit to the game. + The mission looks good overall, has some nice rewards and makes some great call backs here and there. + It's long.
On the downside;
- It's long. And I say this is also a bad point because certain parts are unneccessary - why, for example, are there three door locks to override, when one would suffice? - It's buggy. In the room where you defeat some Voth, it's possible for them to phase through the latticework walls, where they can continue to shoot at you, but you cannot shoot back. Beaming out sets you back to the start of the mission. Sound was also buggy in places. - The Dyson ships also appear to be buggy. For example, while in Science Mode, the Romulan version is still able to fire it's Proton Cannons when it activates the Weapon Overload Singularity power. Happily, this was the only bug with the ship that I came across. - In addition to Koren, a squad of Klingons in the Solanae sphere command room are wearing full versions of the Klingon fleet outfit. Is this some kind of internal joke? It's getting kind of annoying seeing NPCs wearing this but players still can't access it.
Moving on.
Party Patrol
+ Although I initially felt i'd rather grind these Qmendations from replaying the FE, this is now not the case. Of course, i'd rather not have to grind them at all, but hey, what can you do now.
- It's Party Patrol. It is - as it always has been - obnoxious as hell. And it seems worse this year. The "Catch the Mini-Q" isn't so bad, but with full Zones, it can get confusing when multiple people are all trying to catch a Q and can't determine which one is theirs.
The Box game, however, is not only likely to ruin this anniversary for me, but drive me from the game altogether. Q now seems to move at the same time as the boxes on occasion, meaning it more often than not ends up being a blind guess rather than skill at following where he is.
And of course, people just have to be dicks and stand where you're trying to do it.
To top it off, there's an assload of space in the outdoor section of SFA where additional Mini-Q's could have been located to prevent there being queues for Q's. And it most certainly does not take 2-5 minutes with full zones.
All in all, disapointed. Easily the worst Anniversary Event by a long shot. All of the goodwill you made up through 2013 has been lost - from me at least, and i'm sure others feel the same - by turning this into a grind-fest. Even the goodness of the FE can't offset the irritation that adding another grind has caused.
So there we go. Let me know what you lot feel about this. Happy 4th Anniversary!
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
I'm not sure if i "finished" or not. i got to the talk talk after the klingon captain got bent out of shape, but i don't know if it credited me with the mission or not. i did not get a chance to claim any rewards.
that said, Cryptic/PWE, do you intentionally seek out the most whiny voices for the speaking parts? I'm with an above poster. I wanted Cooper's head on a spike after about 2 minutes.
You have the rest of the game to play with your friends. And considering how much the powercreep is toward fleet, I don't see the whine.
1 mission (representing probably less than 1% of the actual game content) will not hurt you.
You obviously missed the point of the "AGAIN"...its their second feature mission that they give us that is single player...and I dont really care if it is 1% or 0.1% of the game...I play this game to PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE/FRIENDS. I beleive that most of the players come here for that too, if I wanted to play single player games...I would not play a MMO.
I like the mission, the implementation...not!
Why give us a sinlgle player mission, when we had many feature episodes that weren't?
To much work? Cant move man power from the zit store?
And, not related to the OP but, what is the point of getting an "exclusive" ship by doing the Q daillies during this event when in a month you get 3 variants in the zit store??
It defeats the porpouse of "exclusive".
i do believe its the cloaked voth, you are just seeing probably a graphics bug your end is my guess.
seems to be about the right location he is in at that point in the mission
I had no issues at all in the mission other then for a moment I got my self stck during the space walk.. and I forgot to activae the suit.. and died as soon as I stepped through the force field...
And I figured out that my equipped Mk XI and MK XII gear will hold me just fine, so next run.. not even going to activate the defences...should be fun.
Well crafted missions... but darn! Ends with a cliff hanger!
Part-II is bound to be interesting... I wonder.. is this going to be the lead up to ending the war between the Federation and the Empire?
I went through the mission on the first try with no issues at all. Then again, I was playing my Tac toon - so I used Away Team and the orb that spawns two copies of myself to help in the fight.
I don't actually have the voth armor. Didn't have the extra dilithium to burn before last Monday. I was saving up for service unlocks and a Vice Admiral ship. (Both of which I got )
And my security escorts ran and died almost instantly, so they were of no use.
Ground combat isn't always bad, but I just feel so frustrated with it right now.
Dark Souls never frustrated me as much as STO ground does.
I never said the mission wasn't good...at least until I could play it...it is an awesome misson, but I would like to play it with friends...THATS my point.
I would really like you to point out in my OP where I am saying that the mission is bad.
You probably read me saying something bad about Cryptic and jumped on me...
Visual of three beams forming one beam followed by a shot. Followed by Tuvok's statement.
Absolutely hilarious.
It is nice to see and hear Tuvok again.
Side note: I noticed that some of the dialogue does not match up with the text. Oh and there is a ghost in the second or third room on the far side the you enter after meeting with Tuvok and the Scientist.
But the mission is very beautiful (the new EV, the Sun environment, The wreckage you navigate around in,etc) and I'm very impressed with Tim Russ's work in this episode. Hope to see more of him. The story is interesting also; however, I'd love to see a bridge episode from endgame to Sphere's of Influence.
The ship...meh on a first play, I was more impressed with the Obelisk.
I was playing it a second time when I was dropped. I'm hoping for a Negative Nelly accolade for selecting all the negative dialogue options. My initial thoughts, I'll add more later, but thanks again for that laugh.

The white figure by the wall... who is that? they disappear if i got any closer and can't target it.
anyone know who that is?
is it ghost of former sto dev?
some alien?
some phase shifted star fleet dude?
or just bug of miss placed pixels?
or one of dead npc characters that is only mostly dead?
but the grindaversary SXX

just 2-> 3 step forward and it would disappear.
Soon you'll discover its not an RPG either
