Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Had trouble getting on early in the morning. When I got on, played for over an hour without a problem, then went to change character and got disconnected and couldn't get back on for several minutes.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.
I tried logging in and it timed me out so I just logged in a second time and was fine. I am guessing the snow over in America must be causing a few communications issues here then so a little persistence is required.
This, plus the solar flares could also be contributing....
Was playing last night, several hours before this thread was started, and noticed the game sputtering to start(I personally have no grudge against ARC, but noticed it was, for the 1st time since I've started playing STO, that it[ARC] was taking it's sweet time starting), but once it was in, everything was fine, save for one time switching sectors, I ran into a delay of nearly 90 seconds.
Can we just blame it on the Breen and be done with it?
All looks good here from internal and external lines on the west coast of the US, and from all our monitoring tools -- there is no delay logging in and switching characters. We believe this to be a regional ISP issue occurring across the Atlantic. You can use the info in this thread to find the hops where you are running into an issue: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=225155
(No, regional ISP issue across the Atlantic)? care to translate that?
edit: im in the uk, no issue on my end to cryptic server.
Some players across the Atlantic (from us; various locations) seem to be running into an issue -- we would imagine that not all are affected, it depends on your provider and how they route you to us.

so if the problem is across the Atlantic, it means that rest of the world can't play, and only Americans can. So the only solution is that you take another server from Eu and you will not have a problem such as this one.

I wonder why my trace starts having timeouts on your network then?
since Season 8 i am having problems after i login the first time. I do select a character and when i enter the game all the game slows down. I have to wait a minute or two until all things are loaded and then the game runs pretty well. No further lag. And i have that each time i do restart the game. Whenever i only change a character i do not have this kind of problem.
It disturbs me while playing and cant think of its my card or pc. Although i dont have these issues on an older an slower laptop. I play in FULL HD, have an Nvidia GTX650 with 2 GB graphic ram and a I7-3770 with 3.4 GHz CPU additional 8 GB ram. I played around with graphic settings and swap file settings to no avail.
Has anyone an idea what else i can try or if there are game issues on some PC requirements?
All drivers are up to date and problem just occurred since season 8.
I read about others having in game lag, which i do not - after the first few minutes. Would appreciate if anyone has an idea or even solution at hand. Thanks in advance.
Some routers do not return traceroutes and this behavior is normal. It is also not pertinent to this particular issue, which is extremely specific and directly run by Cryptic, as opposed to general regionwide Internet failure.

UMM.... I'm in Idaho, landlocked and closer to the West Coast. I've experienced it twice now while trying to use the switching characters option. It sits there and does nothing till it times out. I have to log completly out of the game and back in to get it to work. Very annoying.
Im in the EU and have now switched to the US proxy. Changed toons a few times and seems okay now.. I know your in the US but try the US proxy in the launcher options, may be it will take a different route and work??
Running traces in the background shows sub 100ms responses at each hop, and yet still the server times out when loading a new region.
This is clearly not just a problem with the route.
Try substituting 'pathping' for the 'tracert' command, and post the results, as network latency isn't the only issue that can effect a TCP/IP connection...
So I patched just now and I can't get past the logo screen with Cryptic text. First time this has ever happened. Was working fine 2 days ago when I logged in and played a couple of toons. Even with server outages, it was able to at least get to the log in screen. No so this time. Tried a few times. Net access is fine. This has got to be one of the most incompetent dev teams in MMO history.
Well, I guess it makes it easy to kick the STO habit. GG!
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
DOUBTFUL, at least for me. My router is brand new off the shelf. My internet connection is one of the fastest I can get in my area. It is their servers not the routing to get there. They just don't want to admit they have a problem and blame it on REGIONAL routing.
Fact is two members of my fleet that are on the West Coast USA and are having same problem. One member of my fleet is in the UK he has the same problem. I am on East Coast USA and have same problem.
Do you see a pattern? I do and as a person who holds a Bachelor Degree in Information Technology with emphasis on Networking Technology, I would say it is their servers.
They just won't admit it and their fancy mouth piece blames it on routing from ISP's.
I have to agree it is at cryptic's end. All my traces against the auth server (since we can't reach that) reach 38.111.40.114 then the timeouts start. Who's IP is that you ask?

But yeah cryptic keep denying.
It's really getting old now. Logging in is like a lottery with huge luck you might log in. But then do a map change and bam d/c and logging back in is impossible. Really cryptic it's time your people get their heads out of this warm wet place and start doing something about it. Because IT IS NOT AT OUR END!!! To many people from all over the world are having problems, when will you finally stop denying???
I know that I won't drop you even 1 more penny if this is the service we get. You should be ashamed of yourselves treating your customers this way.
I tried to login yesterday but the screen froze on the STO image before the character screen. I had to force quit. Today, on another computer, I just waited and it took me to the character screen. I chose mine (I have only one) but couldn't load my location. I tried again and it worked, Earth Spacedock loaded, but immediately I got the red writing about server not responding and it kicked me out. So now I can't do much, it either does not load my location or, if it loads, I can't even move because server's not responding. On both computers I use
If anyone can get past it changing some proxy stuff you might describe in detail how you do it so that non-computer-geeks and weekend-players like me (and blond girls like me) will understand!
Oh, and by the way, it may sound silly, but.. When I had the game open, not able to login though trying and was browsing the forums at the same time I had problems accesing various pages, they were loading slowly or not at all. Now as I closed the game everything went back to normal. It isn't the computer's fault, normally I can run many other programs while playing. Is it possible that me not being able to login has somehow affected my internet connection? It sounds improbable for me, but maybe?..

If anyone can get past it changing some proxy stuff you might describe in detail how you do it so that non-computer-geeks and weekend-players like me (and blond girls like me) will understand!
