That plugin that you removed you NEED. It is called playnow. and it enables the ARC client to effectively run STO, and for you to effectively run ARC through your browser. It isn't a harmful plugin, it is a very common plugin used by other gaming companies such as EA.

    Netflix now even uses it.

Incorrect, you don't need it unless you intend to launch STO from the Arc games website. Also, it could be taken as a tracking cookie type plugin as well, which they should ask permission to install..

Need / don't need a matter of personal perception

And? It should still have an opt out. It is not required for Arc to run..

As Yoda would say ... :
    ".... sniff-sniff ... smell desperation I do ..."

And indeed , some posts (including the OP) are only missing the infomercial tag line "Real opinions , from Real ppl ... just like you ! " -- the question really is why is such infomercial a necessity ?

See , the way I see it , Arc has two problems :

    1) The ppl who installed it , got the goodies and promptly uninstalled .

    2) The ppl who don't know anything about the Arc (that includes both players and non-players) .

See , the list that I think PWE is keeping classifies group #1 as "potential re-installers" (see if you think you f-ed PWE by taking their stuff and uninstalling , you were just kidding yourself .
You just got added to group #1 by default) .

The real problem for PWE is group #2 ... , which such vague attempts as this thread to "go viral" is such a fail .
    Why ?
Because just as us "nay sayers" have been told many a time that the Forum Folk are just a tiny part of the player base ... -- well that argument works both ways see ?
So trying to "go viral" using such a "minority" is a waste of internets .

Especially on forums that have such a strong "No-to-Arc !" sentiment to begin with .
So , whatever the OP and his assistant accounts might have to say , this is what I have to say :

This sounded good in your office meeting , or around the water cooler , but office stuff and real world stuff sometimes differ , and sometimes clash .
This falls into the 'differs' department .

If I have the option to opt out of the browser and chat thing than I would have no problem with ARC. I do not need these nor would I use them. It is the same with Blizzard I used the parental controls to turn of the battlenet friends feature.

I have no problems with a unified launcher, even Blizzard is going down this road with their games. I have no problem with them scanning my active processes as an anti-cheat/hack measure I am used to that already with Blizzard and Warden. I think even Turbine did it, though it has been a very long time since I played LoTRO so I could be wrong.

If there was a stripped down version without those extras, or gimmicks as I call them, then I would use it. Even if that meant that I had to accept that using that version meant I would not be able to take advantage of ARC exclusive offers. As it is I will not touch it with a 10ft barge pole.

The way I see it, Arc is a good thing for the game and PWE games in general. It will make things much more compact and efficient. I also love the interface, it only needs to be a little more structured. I love how the news is represented. I can't wait for all PWE games to be combined in to Arc. It will be like Steam but better. Who agrees? :D

I went to a Starfleet dentist once. I told him I needed a root canal. He gave me a cavity search instead.

He said he used Gold Pressed Latinum for the fillings so I went to a Ferengi to have him tell me if it was real. Well it wasn't. It was imitation GPL. And worse, the Ferengi said if it were him, he would have charged me double what the dentist charged me, but done a better job.

Now I'm receiving radio transmissions in my head from New Romulus.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go warn D'tan that a Hirogen Stalker is coming for his autograph. He is a big fan of his apparently.

Oh this was about Arc? Well it's OK. It has some conveniences that I like such as automatically logging me into Arc and STO when I launch it through Arc.

The web browser sucks though. It doesn't have tabbed browsing.

WORFFY. Firstly behave. Remember resistence is futile. :) ARC DOES NOT spy on your computer. You can voluntarily adjust the settings.

Really? Because I was unable to adjust the settings after installation. I ended up stripping the damn thing and removing it from my hard drive.

And really, the data mining is the most poorly-conceived idea in the history of bad ideas. If you're trying over-zealously to catch hackers, don't make the damn thing optional. If you're trying to keep players, who have a limited tolerance for horse TRIBBLE, just don't put the damn thing in in the first place...

As-is, the data mining program is pissing off most people while letting canny hackers keep going scot-free.

    That don't listen to feedback.

People have told them we don't like it, they haven't said a word or even acknowledged that. They chugged on forward. I offered to retype a list of improvements that I accidentally lost if someone just responded and acknowledged me, no one ever did.

Some people, like you, may think Arc is good and you're entitled to like it. That's fine. But don't tell us that we should like it too.

Your feedback might just belong in the useless category to them.

You're like one of the people that, when someone asks something like.
"I use Windows 8 and want a start screen menu" and people reply
"Uninstall Windows 8 , throw away your PC an buy yourself an Apple, instea dof this bloated, obsolete Windows full of security holes and poor design choices."

When your answer to "How can I improve X" is "Get rid of X", you're not really helping. You could say: "I don't really see a need for X, I personally doN't want it, but this is something that might make it work better:" - then they have actionable feedback.

I use ARC for one use only - getting the freebies. I am fine with the Startrek Online launcher as is. When I want to be visit the forums, I use my own browser. If I want to start the game, I use the STO launcher.
If it became mandatory, I would have no problem with it, but I would still only fire it up specifically when I want to play the game, not for anything else. That is also pretty much how I use Steam - I fire it up when I want to play one of my Steam games. Compared to ARC, Steam has more reasons to start it, however - I can use it to browse the Steam inventory and purchase new games, and I can stay informed on any special offerings. Still, I usuall yonly launch Steam when I either actively look for something new, or if I want to play a game.

I don't really intend to use Arc as my go-to-software to visit the forums or the website. I've got a browser for that, and I use it all day anyway, so it's more convenient to use that.

This could change if there is stuff on Arc that cannot be so easily done via my browser. That would primarily be buying stuff from the Zen Store for the games I play (which is, in regards to Arc, primarily STO).

In regards to STO, I might also utilize it more often if it enables me to do other activities, like DOFFing or inventory management. (I could see myself using one monitor to watch a movie or TV show, and the other for DOFFing. But of course, such things are not in the cards yet, are they?)

If it's just a launcher and basically a limited browser, I don't really have a good use for it.
I wouldn't have a problem if it would replace the STO launcher at some point, but should that happen, you really need to make sure it loads up fast. Try to delay the expensive stuff to the point where I actually need it (or at least it doesn't look like I am just there to start one of the games).

Oh, someone else reminded me of this:
Tabbed Browsing is an absolute must to me. If your browser can't do it, it's useless. That also hurts the STEAM browser for me.
Particularly when I use forums, I usually have multiple threads open, marking at first all the ones that interest me. And I also use open threads to copy information or quotes between threads or from various points of one thread to my reply.

    Zactly.

And I didn't even know Arcgames had its own website, LOL. But yeah, you don't need that plugin at all.

Beg to differ, I only installed it to leech all the bribe goodies and have not uninstalled it. Of course, it hasn't run since said goodie grab. I got hard drive space enough to let it sit and "collect dust" while I play through the normal launcher.

See, game companies love to brag "400 billion registered accounts" because it sounds better than "400 billion accounts have been created, and currently 23 people actually log in to 23 of those accounts and play the game" without being a blatant lie- rather, it just doesn't tell the whole story.

In that light, you think they won't be bragging about how many times ARC has been downloaded? I'll give them a +1 on that counter, but not one download to crow about for every time they give something away. :P
