Yes I only ever open lockboxes for Lobi. I did get lucky once and score a Voth Bastion FDC (which is now obsolete thanks to the Bulwark.)

The mechanics of the game change so much from release to release you never can be sure it's the right move to put X lockbox ship on Y captain, it's too bad they aren't account-wide unlocks. I have a temporal sci on a KDF Tac that made sense at the time, and blew up many a bug ship, but today I barely fly it.

I do agree I would pay MORE money into the system if these could be bought in the C-Store. I realize this will never happen though, or Sol would be 100% Alien ships instead of just 50%, so I don't see any viable solution.

The only alien ship I ever wanted to fly is a D'kora on a Ferengi alt. The rest are just desired for the power creep.

At first glance, this ship looks brokenly OP.

On second glance, I'll never have one of these, thus the 'Care' switch has been set to the 'I Don't' position.

I noticed not too much gripe about the get out of death free ability, which will become a huge OP ability in pvp matches.

I'm having a problem with the whole pay-to-gamble setup.

No matter what, someone somewhere is paying to buy keys. And using them to open boxes. That's where they stuff on the exchange you "just buy for EC" comes from.

Now you're enticing people to pay-to-gamble with DOFF packs. Again, someone somewhere pays money to open them. If it was a question of "just grind lol" the game would have folded by now.

Fact is, people are spending money on a random lottery. One without an odds table. For all we know it could be the same sort of random-lookup table that screwed up the STF missions for so long.

This Dreadnought, I would have bought for $25. No question. I'm sure there are enough folks who want one to "pay for" the effort put into production. As it stands now, we'll see a handfull of them on the exchange for absurd EC prices, almost none in game. I can't tell you the last time I saw a Galor, a Bugship or any of the other lockbox ships in instances... People get them and hold on to them for instant EC rather than play them

This whole setup stinks. I'm telling you I'd rather put $25 or $50 into something that I can claim rather than $25 or $50 into a slot-machine... one that is rigged to generate maximum intake-revenue with almost no chance of a ship. I'm not going to spend hours of my week grinding the same farm-maps and missions to get permission to gamble... nor am I going to farm EC for months at a time to buy something so absurdly priced.

I'm pretty much done with this game now, the direct-to-slot-machine mentality is not acceptable. I'm not paying into a game that is effectively broken, run by a team that is NOT listening to the player base and one that puts barriers in place to certain play-styles.

I'll keep an eye on things, but frankly until I see more direct-to-Z-store ships, items and goodies I'm not playing. There's no point in playing the same grind maps day in day out just to earn gambling tokens.

And no... you can't have my stuff on the way out. :D

I am going to use this opportunity to plug the New c-store KDF Mogh Battlecrusier!! A fine ship for $25 that will always unlock on every KDF toon you roll.

That's because the devs already stated you will have to be dead, and have your death counted, to use the console. And all it will really do is make you dead twice when you respawn in the middle of the jerks who popped you in the first place. They could just rename it the 'Console - Voth Get Yourself Spawn Killed'

Well I guess that's why the dil exchange rate went up ten freakin' points in ONE day. People blowing through their dil for zen to buy lock box keys. And just before I converted my dil to zen to get a defiant.

    *sigh* Where to start...

    1) No one is forcing you to gamble within this game At no point whatsoever are you required to gamble with your money. Absolutely none of the ships are fundamentally "required" for Endgame. It has been shonw many times that you can be competative in PVE endgame content for free, and in PVP with a little time and effort.

True, but just like vegas they know there are those who cannot resist.

1.2) You don't have to gamble to get the ships! You can easily purchase keys with Zen (a sure thing) Sell them on the exchange (a sure thing if done right) and then purchase the lockbox ship right off the exchange as well (also a sure thing). Done this way, a lockbox ship can be procured within $50-$75, depending on the exchange prices and the ship in question. Well below the hundreds of thousands of dollars that other people can spend trying to "win" it. This is a sure thing.

This is somewhat dumb, because you are instead paying and contributing towards someone else to gamble for the item, and seeing how the most one can accumulate EC wise is 1billion on person it is also controlled as to how much your money is valued.

2)Even if you open the lockboxes, you get consolation prizes. All of the lockboxes now come with secondary prizes with a fairly high drop rate. I personally have only opened maybe 30 lockboxes in my career, and I have received all of the secondary prizes at least once. And sometimes, people open the lockboxes exclusively for the new traits, doffs, or other gear.

Yes like we all need millions of space and ground weapons that fills up every inventory space you could possibly have, or millions of doff's that you can't keep because of space restrictions. Lobi specialty ships which are not always as good as their grandprize cousin's are, but still cost about $200. Need I go on?

Lobi is an exclusive currency that drops every single time you open a lock box. Open enough of them, and you can buy a Lobi ship for 800. If you are feeling frisky, you can turn that around, sell it on the exchange, and then buy the ship of your choice. So go on long enough, you can still "win" in the end without sinking hundreds of dollars into the game.

Yes sell it for again a controlled EC amount that cannot supersede 1billion on person.

3)Like it or not, the Lockboxes have saved this game from bankruptcy! THe Free2Play model still requires an income of some sort. Mr Stalh has said that he will not release content packs for real money. (To which I, and many other players are glad. IF this game was a pay by Zone model, I would not be playing it.) Selling ships for Zen is ok, but not great. And the subscription bonuses are meh at best. The Lockbox model is effective at driving revenue, and thus being able to pay the devs to develop content (quit laughing), and the coders to debug the game. Not to mention other essentials such as bandwidth and electricity for the servers.

Now this part is very true, but doesn't mean it is the best way to generate revenue. But hey it's their game and they can generate revenue how they seem fit, so no arguments there.

Love it, hate it; Lockboxes are here to stay.

4)No one is forcing you to play the game! Star Trek Online is a completely elective activity. If you are unsatisfied with the product, service, or anything about it, the uniinstall button is in your start menu.

My only quam is with the doff packs costing 2X that of a key, what odds do they carry? Hmmm we would expect double, but they don't confirm this by any means....so what a lockbox maybe a .01-.05% while doff packs give a .05-0.1% chance at best, your guess is as good as anyone's. Good luck to those who play, and may or may not win! :o

massive power creep on this ship, instead of doing some stuff better or speciailizing in an area vs other ships of it's type, it is simply flat out BETTER than other options out there.

    very bad move imo

400 mill range is that all? They should be asking for more considering the possible cost in doff packs needed to obtain one. Oh well it's their money they can deface it all they want.

Available for only about 2 weeks(?) until Another promotion, and not accessable otherwise via the Doff lottery etc.

Plus, the incredibly expensive 3-pack gives you: BATTLE-CLOAK!
Why is it such a big deal?
Well, prolly not of much importance to our Klingon and Romulan friends, but as far as I can tell, this ship will be the ONLY BATTLE-CLOAK ENABLED SHIP FOR THE FEDERATION players, right?
    Or am i wrong?
((Excuse me if im wrong, taken a total of 8 pain-killers in the last 16 hours, can hardly think straight :( ))

Thats why, I already had the first 2 ships in stock, and I bought this one as well, and I hope I dont regret my purchase (got the 3-pieace jem hadar ship-set as well, including the bug ship and never regretted it).

And if the prices DO go down on this thing, well than,,,, woe to me, but no big deal, I can still live with that :)

It'd be hilarious to see someone get "spawncamped" outside of a spawnpoint. I'd sit back and watch it happen to a teammate, just to laugh :)

It actually brings your hull shields and power levels back to normal instantly so somewhat difficult to spawn kill.

I did not mean to disparage Cryptic's design, I'm sure someone worked really hard on it. I was just mildly dismayed as the gross devaluation of my dil on the eve of my cashing it in to get a ship I was saving for and perhaps used more flare to convey the frustration than was intended.

It's good, but not especially remarkable. A more aggressive 4 tac console cruiser like the Monbosh would serve you better.

What bothers me is that you pretty much have to kill this engineering heavy thing 3 times (2x Miracle worker with Grace under fire + repair ship) in order to be really able to kill it on your 4th attempt. To make it worse the repair ship actually revives you. Not even the time ship can do something like that. So to actually kill it you have to deplete the health bar for 4 times! Provided the cd of the other stuff hasn't recovered in the meantime. 5 minutes is not that long.

Actually the timeship can revive you but it must be use moments before dying and its cycle will continue while you explode reversing the explosion. But it still doesn't bring you back to full health and shields instantly like the ward ship.

Console doesn't interest me at all. If you're dead, you're dead. In PvP, especially warzone, you would be better off respawning with complete hull and shields rather than coming back to life only to die to the same hugely buffed alpha or science cheese spam that killed you in the first place. And if you need this thing to get through STFs, then well, you need a better build.
