If you actually bothered to read what I wrote, you'll note I specifically said you weren't guaranteed anything for making a console. You ARE, however, all but guaranteed to receive 800K if you just flat out sell the artifact, at least until market value on those crashes as well.
Well, then, it was your choice to essentially give it away. Who's stupid here, the guy who sells a thing far below market value, or the guy who buys it?
Because time is money. Some people would apparently rather not spend ages creating farm alts to farm artifacts with, since you can get only one measly artifact per character every 3-4 days or so, which is insufficient to feed a console manufacturing cycle of 8 hours. Would *I* pay that much? No, but SOMEONE clearly will, and that's how markets work. There is a supply, and a demand, and a equilibrium is established at a price where the desire of people to supply these artifacts matches the desire of people to pay for them.
If you don't generate money somehow, you don't get anywhere in this game. What, do you still fly your freebie ship with its stock gear? I don't think so.
If the apple had no market value, then its opportunity cost for use would be far lower. But inputting a zero into an equation does not change the equation. It is even possible for a material input to have negative value: Someone might pay you to take it off their hands. Turning garbage into saleable goods is a business model used by many in real life. It still doesn't change the equation, however.
You can generate millions of ec's each day simply from vendor loot, anything more is not really needed. To act like you need bring RL economics into a fantasy game with fantasy money is dumb. EC's doesn't buy me a soda, or a hamburger for me to in RL eat now does it? So generating huge sums of EC's is virtually pointless, you can make enough ec's to pay for fleet provisioning/rep/ship&ground supplies from vendor trash alone. The only reason I can see you so greedily wanting to overcharge huge sums of ec's is because other monopolizing turds do it, so why not you. There is such a thing as an ec's cap, what are you going to do once you need not spend any? Just sit on them, or are you one of those people that like hoarding over other's that I have uber fake money and can be like all the other market manipulators? Oh and I just got 3 artifacts tonight, I think I'll just sit on those because I am not greedy and need charge 600-800k just because I can or that is what other's think they need charge for them. Oh and to answer your question about the stock free ship, yes I do still keep and use them from time to time simply because that is all you really need for any pve content. Every piece of gear on my person and ships came at little to no cost other than time and pretty much all from vendor trash, so to say you need millions of ec's is a waste of breath. Heck I don't even do foundry missions or the tour.
No, it put the profitteers in their place. These profiteers are usually the ones who sing out with "why, you can run any mission with standard weapons with no problem" while they flit around in their Fleet ships and all XII equipment...
Same as on eve, the jerks who have been there the longest dont want anyone else catching up with them so they keep all prices enormously high on everything....They they say "you dont need that".....
Wow. The rage in this thread is...silly. And pointless.
No one is stopping the ragers from making a profit. They have exactly the same opportunity to do exactly the same thing as the people they are raging against. They've chosen not to do so. For whatever reason. For them to loudly proclaim their inherent goodness and publicly denounce the others because, "I don't profit off of other players!" is really really stupid.
I wonder how many of them spam CTRL-Q during an STF? Wouldn't this be profiting at the expense of another player? When was the last time one of them suggested Round Robin as a way to divvy up the drops from Starbase 24? Never!
All of my characters are maxed on crafting. An easy, relaxing way to rack up about a half mil EC is for me to craft Mk V Phaser Relays. I calculate the cost per unit it takes to get the materials and then tack on about a 30-35% increase and use this as a price on the Exchange. Usually do them in lots of 24 and haven't had any stay listed longer than about 24 hours. I spend about 30 minutes or so of game time making something desirable for people who either cannot yet do so or will not do so. I don't think compensation for my time and effort is unreasonable. If this is profiteering, then mea culpa. Further, I'll wear such a title as a mark of distinction and honor. If you have a problem with my attitude, it is your problem not mine. I am under no obligation whatsoever to defend you from yourself.
The rage is also ridiculously pointless because the new TAC Consoles will be just like all the rest of the Holding gear - Character Bind on Pickup.

Yeah, about that. We actually tried this as a way to evenly distribute the loot in our group without having to bother with the hassle of clicking the button, since one of the problems we were running into was that, during a lootfest, whoever was fastest in ninja'ing loot would end up with a full inventory and have to stop, which, being our fastest looter, slowed down the pace at which we could shovel up loot.
Turns it didn't work, the RR loot distro mode is just broken. RR is equivalent to FFA, and the loot is never distributed.

I have an alt with common and uncommon mk xii beam arrays and mk xii rare tac consoles. It does 5k DPS (sci toon with only 2 tac slots). So they are right, you don't really need those flashy toys. It's all power creep.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
