Could anyone affected report on what lighting quality you're using? If it's high, try it on low. I did, and the game looks worse, but it seems to get rid of the issue. I played for 3 hours without a problem.
I hate to suggest this because then Cryptic might not fix it. But it also might help them pin down the problem.
The dynamic lighting on high makes the world of difference to the quality of image I see in the game. With it on high, I get the issue after 2-3 hours. On low, I probably leave the game before it occurs - if it occurs with it at low.
Seeing as this was annoying the hell out of me I decide to switch to another game for a while, "The Secret World". However although I didn't have any gfx issues in that game it was becoming obvious that the "poor old gal" was being pushed beyond its limits.
So I bit the proverbial bullet and decided to uplift the spec of my PC.
Long story short my main PC is now running a 6 core proc, ASRock Motherboard, 8gb ram and windows 8.1 and the same gfx card as before (Zotec Nvidia 650ti). Which all means I will be living on jam sandwiches and water for the next few months!! :P
STO is now running with all the settings maxed, which is the first time I've been able to do so. As you'd expect things run much smoother...but... the lag in graphics can still be seen, albeit drastically reduced. I've yet to playtest the set up for any great length of time, and will do so this weekend.
The bug is showing itself as ability icons appearing as a white square and some textures appearing lo-rez even with the settings maxed.
So I still maintain that this is possibly a network/routing issue of some kind at its root cause. And I didnt have these problems prior the the last season update.
I still have the old hardware re-cased as a spare PC so I can do comparisons if necessary.
However all of the above said....I shouldn't have to go to THIS extreme to get round a damn gfx issue
They should of put all Mac users on a separate server. Cause with all the recent updates nothing has been fixed. You still can't unclick half resolution and the awful lag remains that I never had before Season 8. Now I'm back to not being able to turn my character left or right and have to fight with it. The means to turn left & right comes and goes quickly. It seems like they're just putting out new content just to keep everyone's interest. I'm beginning to think the only ones playing now are Mac users cause I saw only 5 people in an area where there's usually alot more. The images I gave them should of made what's wrong clear to them enough to fix it.
An acknowledgement of the issue would be nice for a start...
I have to restart the game every 10-40 minutes of normal play time (mostly after numerous different instance changes) because everything goes either white or is missing.
Well I think deep down we all feared this was coming,....
This thread and bug is being ignored, this won't be fixed and the devs will just let this thread slowly die out while we get use to the idea of resetting every 30 minutes.
3 months, 15000 views over 200 posts,....and basically silence from the devs, no updates, no communication.
Taco prove me wrong post what your team have found in 3 months, what they have tested, what they have ruled out......
My guess is all we will get on this is silence.

I've been dealing with this issue for awhile but it has worsened lately.
( History )
I first saw "white ships" when Legacy of Romulus was released; typically the Mogai or D'Deridex type warbirds would "white out" and not load their textures properly. That problem stopped for me in the patch where Cryptic fixed it.
A few patches back I began to see white textures on characters, ships, terrain details, pretty much everything. Item art stopped loading, GUI backgrounds wouldn't colour-in, staying transparent, graphical effects would be replaced by shaded color boxes. Missions like "The Breach" are completely unplayable due to screen white-out. The only solution to the problem is to restart the STO client. The problem would occur perhaps once or twice a day across numerous hours.
( Present )
The problem now occurs during every single play session. Moving into a new area or loading a lot of new assets seems to be the catalyst for the problem triggering. It seems as though the texture loading function is timing out and leaving geometry only, or placeholder FX. There is no user-side solution from within the client that I am aware of (and I have tried many combinations of settings and activities). A client exit is mandatory, and sometimes only fixes the issue for 10-20 minutes.
My system / installation details:
Windows 7 32-bit / Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual Core 2x@2.4GHz / 3GB DDR2 RAM
NVidia Quadro FX 580 workstation video card
Realtek HD Audio (Speakers) or Razer Megalodon USB Headset
Game installed via Steam (PC)
All software & drivers up to date
what's even worse, when the bug manifests during the anniversary mission, it can happen that all giftboxes are just a textureless grey. Goodluck guessing the color under which the little TRIBBLE hides!
Seems this issue has now seriously hit the new Tuvok mission. Even players who were not having problems before are unable to play it beyond the part of the mission where you do a spacewalk because of blackour/whiteout issues meaning you can't see what you are doing.
Started in ESD, went to the FE via transwarp, finish the mission went to se Q, via transwarp, beamed to the academy, glowing uniforms missing ui items, elapse time 50 minutes, yah I didn't rush the mission.....
The patch hasn't made a blind bit of difference, then to cap it the server dies. I won't be doing any more anniversary events because high usage areas brings on this bug, and I didn't think much of the mission. ( the ship is very ugly in my opion)
I'm a lifer but I know they won't get another penny anymore from me.
Any dev want to comment on this problem and what you are doing to stop/fix it............

yeah i just tried the new mission and everything blacked out the second I stepped outside, beamed up to my ship and the blackout carried through to sector space I had to reboot to get rid of it
myself as well as a few ppl from my fleet are having this issue, please fix this as it is making the game unplayable. i've been trying to do the new featured episode for over an hour. i dont see how i'm going to be able to complete this 3 times, on multiple characters, for the space set...

It's getting worse, the few times I've tried playing today I got the bug quite quickly.
I've tried numerous times, and always get black shadows for the space walk section. I can't finish the game, as I can't find the door to enter the second part of the station, due to it being one pure black object over towards the mission goal. Incredible frustrating, especially saying this is the first episode in 3 months, and comes out with so many bugs, and still, 3 days later, not fixed.

That's actually not related to the simple/missing textures bug. To fix the blackout in the new FE, go to your video options and turn underwater view to ON and the restart your game. (See the yellow text at the top of this forum.)

I was going to say "Let's see if this goes away after today's patch" but I think we all know that just isn't going to happen.

Seems to be an unrelated thing. i've been getting that message on every machine I play on but only get the odd textures on one of them.

I didn't get to find out, because I was stuck on a different bug on the new FE when the first crash hit earlier today, lol.
