To be quite honest, I don't really understand why so many have such extreme reactions towards JJ-verse stuff. I enjoy both semi-equally, and I could see why some dislike one or the other, but why such vehemence?

    Because Klingons have nose rings.

JJ Abrams went out of his way to reboot the franchise and ignore the style and themes that classic Trek has always had. That rubs people the wrong way, myself included - and I gave JJTrek a chance. I didn't mind the first film, but Into Darkness was awful and I was disappointed in it.

I'd prefer it if they kept this game and the prime trek universe completely separate from JJTrek.

    WHEN WILL IT BE!!?!

    Please just release the news!

Be patient. This is being carefully timed. First, the ARC news, then when the outrage hits its peak, they release the "good" news to take over the news-cycle.

Ah, I love the smell of manipulation in the morning. Smells like... 1984!

I think they started wearing Nose Rings because they were jealous of the Romulan Tattoos.

I am the fan who LOVES The Original Series and finds Next Generation almost unwatchable. DS9 was only OK in MY opinion and you couldn't pay me to sit through an entire episode of Voyager. Personally I find JJ Trek to be WAY more true to the style and flavor of TOS than anything else that's been made. I also notice that everytime I talk to someone else who is a TOS fan and NOT a TNG fan, They agree with me 100%.

TOS/JJ Trek appeal to one subset of Trek fans, while TNG/Voyager appeal to a different subset. PERSONALLY, I welcome any and all JJ Trek influence that could be added to this game. I understand you may not, but to say that he "went out of his way to reboot the franchise and ignore the style and themes that classic Trek has always had" is absolutely incorrect.

I do realize that Gene preferred TNG to TOS, but not all the fans did. I found the two JJ films to be the best thing since Wrath of Khan. The actors chosen to play the various characters captured them spot on. As someone who stayed up late nights as a kid to catch the reruns on rabbit ears TV, I felt (watching the movies) like I was watching the original show I loved so much. I (and a great deal of older TOS fans) will continue to wait with great anticipation for each and every JJ film so we can see OUR Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov perfectly capture the ACTION PACKED excitement and classic Shakespearean interaction between those beloved characters.

Maybe someday, someone with the perfect style to capture TNG flavor will do a reboot film series for you to enjoy. Until then, I will enjoy JJ Abrams amazing work on the Trek I enjoy!

I'm basing what I said on the prerelease interviews he gave that indicate what I said, to say nothing of the whole 'this isn't your grandfather's Star Trek!' marketing campaign.

By the way, I am a huge fan of TOS. I love it more than I love any other Star Trek show. When I say that JJTrek doesn't hold to the themes that classic Trek had, I count TOS in that as much as TNG or other shows. Best example of what I mean is their characterisation of Kirk: in JJTrek, he's an immature, womanising manchild without a shred of integrity or charisma. In TOS, Kirk's noble, holds onto principles passionately, and the very notion of lying on an official report gets Kirk incensed in 'Court Martial', while for JJKirk, lying on an official report is totally cool. It's because I'm such a fan of TOS that I hate JJTrek, and will never accept it. Kirk's one of my favourite characters in all of popculture, and they turned him into a jerk.

As bad as some of the later shows and movies got, as bad a rap as Rick Berman gets from the Trek community, I never got the impression that he or the writers on DS9, TNG or Voyager, or even Enterprise, went out of their way to rubbish TOS. But everytime I watch a JJTrek movie, that's what it feels like.

Don't worry, the blog about when they'll announce the announcement for the announcement will be posted soon.

In case anyone of you hasn't noticed yet:

They've revamped the looks of Worf, he now looks EXACTLY like the true Worf (how he appeared in All Good Things' future timeline). They've sneaked it on the Holodeck server three weeks ago or so...

So my guess is: MICHAEL DORN (who truly IS epic)

I am just going to mention, that haven't game developer's relized yet the more they hype something the bigger a let down said item ends up being.

Really, at the rate they hyped this and flakes teased, if it is anything but actually at the very least awesome and good news it is going to be very very poorly accepted by people.

Disclaimer: I understand fully that we never accept anything without heavy B****ing.

Excellent point, everything is a let down on here with this community. They could announce they are mailing everyone 3 pounds of gold bars.... in real life. Someone would find someway to complain about it.

"Oh X delivery company is terrible where I live. I can't believe theses guys didn't use Y delivery company. I am uninstalling the game."

"Oh they should have sent gold coins instead of gold bars. I'm a paying customer why aren't they listening to me??!?!?!? I've spent thousands of dollars on this game so my personal opinion should carry extreme weight"

"Gold bars.... what a bunch of lazy developers. Any real MMO company would send platinum"

ANYWAY: I agree and hope the "epicness" will live up to the hype. It's sad that all the crazies will come out of the wood work to brow beat whatever it is as soon as it drops. I just think that whatever it is, this could be just any other week and that I'm just happy new content is continuing to roll in with Season 8 and the FE.

While I'm no great fan of JJ Trek, even I can see that the plan is to bring their version of Kirk up to what we perceive him to be, through a 'Series' of movies.

We don't really have any 'factual on-screen' proof that the classic TOS kirk was always the 'great heroic figure'...

It can be deduced that perhaps he was a bit of a rogue as a youngster...

"Breaking the Rules" WAS his forte throughout the TOS run of episodes and movies.

The JJ-Trek universe may have pushed that envelope a bit more than some could have wished, but it's certainly not completely out of character.

I seriously doubt it'll be any of the following:

    1) Anything to do with ARC.

    2) Anything to do with JJ Trek.

    3) Anything to do with Star Wars.

    4) Anything to do with Star Gate.

    5) Anything to do with a new faction.

    6) Anything to do with The Featured Episode.

    7) Anything to do with Season 8.

I am of the belief that this is something unrelated to upcoming content (that we're already aware of). I suspect it's something completely new. Until I see otherwise, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as far as epic is concerned.

Another thought, but I don't think this would be something they would necessarily announce is that PWE will double the investment into STO following it's success since F2P and double the Dev team and therefore produce massive content updates and story. :)

The more Trek cast members lend their faces and voices, the better I feel...

What does this mean for the possibility of the "Empire" and "Fek'Ihri Return" story arcs for the KDF being remastered with Michael Dorn providing Worf's face and voice for them in addition to the new FE?

(Seriously, I'd LOVE to see/hear M'ven's Ahok'van and K'mtar's death with Dorn providing Worf's voice for the scenes...)
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I'm guessing it's whatever the 'special' thing they took time to add to the episode coming on the 31st. Maybe another known Star Trek actor is providing voice work.

    Check and check! :)

Having played through the new Klingon missions, I thought Dorn's answer to the question about Alexander was ... interesting. It sure seems like he knows what happens, but doesn't want to spoil it. He might have checked out the storyline anyway, but I bet he performed for that story arc too.
