if so would that mean ARC would not be mandatory then?
If only...

While I'm sure that would be fabulous for many...,
It just doesn't have an EPIC-ness to it, that BranFlakes enthusiastic posts have attempted to put across.

How long ago was that interview conducted, back in the middle of July...?
Things have been known to change in much shorter time frames.
He was quite correct that Cryptic didn't have the "rights" then... but what if They do now?
...your low opinion of the movies not withstanding, it would still be an immense (EPIC, if you will) achievement for PWE/Cryptic to have accomplished.

I think the "EPIC" announcement we are going to get this week is that...
... STO has acquired the rights from Paramount to use JJ-Trek Stuff in the game.
If we get a T5 Abramsprise Constitution before we get a T5 Exeter (which according to Geko will pretty much never happen for no reason) the only epic thing would be the rage on the forums.

I wouldn't be surprised, if I'm right about the EPIC thing...
That we see an off-shoot of STO within the game, where we go to the JJ-Trek Universe.
2014 might just be the Year of JJ-STO Trek.
Only if I'm correct though.

My speculations, don't mean you have to actually play it if I'm right.

Stay with me here for a moment...
There have been rumblings on the internetz over the last couple of months that CBS and Paramount are in secret negotiations to try and figure out a way to avoid another fiasco, like the one that occurred when JJ wanted to work out a deal over the licensing of his Trek movies.
Essentially, what happened was, He couldn't get CBS and Paramount to agree on the Merchandising Deal he wanted for the Films...
He eventually threw his hands up in disgust and walked away.
This left both of the Trek IP Owners with a very large pile of egg on their faces.
I'm sure somebody in the higher-up offices at Viacom, wanted to know who-screwed-the-pooch and why.
It was shortly after this became public knowledge, that the rumors started spreading about an internal reorganization of the Trek Franchise.
Therefore, I'm going with the "EPIC" announcement being, what I described in my opening above.
If that's the case, I'd go with a JJ themed expansion for next year with JJ Starfleet and JJ Klingons as factions handled similar to the Romulans albeit with some kind of endgame crossover.
I am just going to mention, that haven't game developer's relized yet the more they hype something the bigger a let down said item ends up being.
Really, at the rate they hyped this and flakes teased, if it is anything but actually at the very least awesome and good news it is going to be very very poorly accepted by people.
Disclaimer: I understand fully that we never accept anything without heavy B****ing.

I have to say... I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the content development for a JJ spinoff/expansion.
With all the feedback they have internally and from us, seeing a new 1-30/40/50 Fed experience or Klingon experience would be novel. There's a Romulan hook in that Taris was trying to use a gate to save Romulus.
The Iconian gates could be stable bridges between the timelines. Their universe has a Romulus and no Vulcan.
Their tech is supposed to be 25th century ish in scope because they supposedly reverse engineered the Narada's tech to upgrade the Federation and Klingon fleets. The Feds had complete scans from the Kelvin and opted to ignore the temporal rime directive while their Klingons held the Narada for a few decades, studying it.

It's an MMO. If someone has it, it affects *my* game experience. That's kind of the point of MMOs.
