The new KDF ship is a T1 battlecruiser...with THREE forward weapon slots! 2. Tacofangs is actually a vampiric taco security officer - talk about hiding in plain sight 1. [REDACTED]
Star Trek: Online - Now with 100% more dinosaurs!!
Yes, her standards are much too high to do a video game. :P
I wasn't so much relying on Mulgrew's standards, as I was Cryptic's.
(After all, Janeway is a canon character, and we can't have an awkward 47 year sci-fi franchise getting in the way of our laser-dinosaur hunting simulators can we )
This seems the likeliest to me. "Epic" announcements in the past tended to be things like Steam or even Raptr partnerships.
It seems likely to be a product announcement rather than a publicity announcement.
I figure it's a product going on retail shelves as a plastic card with a code on it like WoW's Panda expansion digital deluxe game card with a bundle of extras included or a console port of the client.
These are the kinds of things corporate industry folks seem to find exciting.

These are the kinds of things corporate industry folks seem to find exciting.
1) Michael Dorn providing voice work for the revamped revamped early KDF content and future content.
2) Keeping up with the Cardassians expansion.
3) Tacofangs will be taking over as Executive Producer!
It could. They were working on that pretty seriously and it's been rare that they had a big announcement without a leak.
However, one would expect that to come with Mac versions of CO and NW.
Unless the other games have big announcements, I'd expect it to be something other than a port. Meanwhile, if it's Trek story news, they'd tell us to look for it in ST magazine or Startrekonline.com, I think.
Probably a STO product then, like a new starter pack, retail partnership, heck... Maybe an Enterprise interior? The new tutorial shows work done in that direction. Dev chatter lends itself to that as well.
Bundles seem to be targeted for Christmas release. TNG bundle? Maybe offered as a non-ZEN starter pack like the Romulan packs? I could see them looking at low profitability on prior bundles and relative profitability of non-C-Store cash bundles and deciding that series bundles going forward might be a straight cash item, outside the C-Store.
I think the announcement is that William Shatner has been cast as Capt. Piccard in the J.J. Abrams re-launce of Star Trek the next generation movir series.
1) Michael Dorn providing voice work for the revamped revamped early KDF content and future content.
God I hope so. I also hope they revamp the revamp a bit - the death scene at the end of 'The House Always Wins' needs a 2nd pass at the editing table. But having voice work for those episodes would be beyond awesome, and if they work on more content with Dorn and tie that into a new C-store ship then I'm gonna say Christmas came a little early for me.
It'll probably just be a release date for S8 announcement though.
I think CBS is going to announce a new Trek TV show set in the STO universe and the game will be tied to it, similar to the game / TV show combo that is Defiance.
Oh god no for the love of Trek this is horrible thing to think about. If they do make a new Star Trek series I don't want it to be anything like this game. If it was like this game it would probably become my least favorite Star Trek show of them all.
What would be best is that season 9 will be Klingon focused. Michal Dorn with some voice work. Robert O'Reilly voice work. Tony Todd voice work. J.G. Hertzler voice work.
Considering that previous epic announcements have been no more epic than day to day news, I'm guessing they're just going to fill in all the [REDACTED]s in the dev blogs.
90% of which can be inferred from known data and 9% of which is obvious to anyone who's played on tribble. I don't see the last 1% being that epic. The most epic possibility for the last detail is that opening the Iconian gateway goes smoothly and with no unexpected consequences (aside from everything else going even worse for unrelated reasons immediately afterwards).
I think CBS is going to announce a new Trek TV show set in the STO universe and the game will be tied to it, similar to the game / TV show combo that is Defiance.
There is "runaway speculation train," and there is "derailed speculation train," and then there "derailed speculation train ramping off a mountain INTO THE SUN." None of these things quite capture how quickly this speculation train took off.
I'm guessing it's whatever the 'special' thing they took time to add to the episode coming on the 31st. Maybe another known Star Trek actor is providing voice work.
And this is what im thinking.
Cause its the only thing that I know of coming to STO next week.
Edit: Caution - Its Epic...

Also, it occurs to me: In the podcast, Gecko talked about a two week event following the FE, dealing somehow with events between the FE and S8 itself. This has not been officially announced and does leave some room for epicness.
Even if the event itself isn't that great, we're already in a huge pile of overlapping events stretching from here to the new year, which has been actively spoiling the old means of predicting release dates by looking at the gaps between events. Any new event or release date will overlap with something.
Am I the only person who thinks it wont be Season 8 focused? The Twitter post says it's something big that'll be announced. That's got to be something that we don't already know about, surely?
We already know that this special featured episode is coming, we also know that season 8 is coming, and we already know that they're doing a winter event. To tell us any of that (or their release dates) seems mundane; we already know to expect them.
I wouldn't expect it to be lock box orientated either, lock boxes aren't exciting anymore. We know (pretty much) that the next one is going to be Voth. I suspect (and h ope) it's something different, something new, something that is actually big news.
My hopes? One of two things:
#1) Michael Dorn in for some Worf voice-overs, and a vast overhaul of the Klingon Faction (clothes, ships, restructure of First City etc).
#2) Andrew Robinson in for some Garak voice-overs and the introduction of a Cardassian (dare I say it) mini-faction.
I figure it's a product going on retail shelves as a plastic card with a code on it like WoW's Panda expansion digital deluxe game card with a bundle of extras included or a console port of the client.
I hope not. I don't see the point in these retail expansions. You're only really buying a box and a cd; two items you'll only use once.
How does being dead keep someone from appearing? We got Tasha in game.
We got Tasha cause this game focuses more on TNG than it does TOS/TMP. Besides, with Tasha they killed two birds with one stone and got some voiceovers for Sela too.
We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

This would get me pretty excited. He's endorsed games before. 2014 is the 20th anniversary of Generations.
So, y'know... 2014 season with a Nexus adventure zone and Shatner doing voiceover and teaser trailers would be my version of epic.
Season 10: 2410. Coming 2014.
Kirk is dead. Died in generations. You people really need to deal with this.
I am Il Shadow and i approve these Shennanigans!

How does being dead keep someone from appearing? We got Tasha in game.
Heck, we've got Dino Riders in game.
So why not Kirk in some form?
Someone doesn't seem to like Kirk...
A Mac version could be it too.

Right, because time travel never, ever, ever happens in Star Trek.

It'll probably just be a release date for S8 announcement though.
I for one welcome our eldritch abomination overlords.

I guess it's gonna be a new playable species. Intelligent Tyrannosaur Rexes. Finally we get to know why all interiors are so oversized.
