Not a battle cloak. It seems that it won't actually come with the cloak at all. Instead, you have to use the cloak console from the Gal X/Defiant on it.

So... not really on Par then eh, I mean versus Klingon and Romulan Designs...

Gratz Cyptic, you got a JJ-ship without anyone noticing it. Good job, I for one, will not be getting this...thing. Its an ugly, ugly, ugly ship. It looks like one of the old starship designs from the old company that was going to do STO.

I will, however be looking forward to the new crusier love. thanks for that.

Going by that shot the thing has the highest shield modifier out of any Cruiser?

The Fleet version looks like it has better shields than most other Cruisers, other than the Cardassian Galor and Tal Shiar Adapted Battlecruiser. A heck of a lot easier to acquire, too, and with dual cannons and a 5/3 weapons payload. Of course, they could adjust the specs before it hits the live server... we'll see.

Klingon battle cruisers don't have access to a battle cloak, despite both items having battle in their name... nor the hull, shields, payload distribution, etc. Now on the Romulan end, the Fleet version looks like a decent match for one of the Scimitar variants. No battle cloak, but better shields, hull, base turn, and power levels.
With what? It's not like the KDF has gotten anything comparable. :D

Nope, not really. We can hope the next ship to come out rebalances things a tad, once the Voth are sorted out...

A xena fan, are we? I just finished rewatching that series on netflix, so good. <3
*hides and pokes her head up to see who is watching*

I am currently watching "Xena" on Netflix. During the past two to three weeks, I have been steadily watching the series.

    rofl...

I think the Avenger class will go nicely with my Armitage.

I was not expecting this ship to be appealing.

I really don't know where people are drawing comparisons between this ship and the vengeance, aside from a bit of boxiness here and there, the ships really are nothing alike. It's much more like a regent aesthetic married with a voyager saucer/hull with regent pylons and eh, they remind me of a sort of modernized excelsior type of nacelles.

There's a lot to be set about the design - for instance how Starfleet managed to create the Sovereign as a battle ship without making it look boxy - but the Avenger has no common features with the Vengeance, other than the rough edges and the classic flying spoon idea. No clue where people getting that impression from, honestly.

Say, you have any clue what this Console Synergy thingi is with the Cloaking Device from the Defiant/Gal-x?
The Avenger doesn't come with a Cloak of its own, but you can equip the Defiant's or Galaxy Dreadnought's Cloak on the Avenger if you have one of them.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

The voyager was a touch on the boxy/chunky side, so I imagine they made it even more chunky/boxy as inspired by the "rough" look of the defiant type ships, i.e. "This is war, ladies and gentlemen, lets slap this together and get it out there pronto, it doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to work!"

A side note... I've never liked the regent's, or now this ship's, peeping tom windows. The windows in the split upper hull where the only view is into other people's rooms on the other side. And if people close their shutters, then all you've got is a lovely view of the pristine... alley... great.

Well... I hope it works out... At least it is an effort for a Fed Battle Cruiser, and descent attempt to have an offering for TAC Captains commanding Cruisers or ENG Captains wanting a bit more of a Punch.

I just feel that the Chimera has a very good balance all around in that regard...now, sacrificing some maneuverability for a bit more punch and sturdiness might be worth it..but it will feel sluggish going from 14 to 9...

The Negh'var has 9...is the Avenger as big as it?

I imagine it won't be as big as the negh'var, but the klingons have always had the upper hand on maneuverability in this game when comparing ships of equivalent size.

At 14 decks (estimating from window size) I think the Avenger is TINY.

Which of course is really cool. Star Trek has nothing to compensate for, and this shows it. :D

The ideas are nice, but the resulting ship doesn't look good. :(

Completely correct. I love the amount of detail on the ship, and all of the ideas, but the end result just looks ugly, not to mention not very "Starfleet" in appearance... :|

With the new weapon hardpoints being a modeled thing, how will that effect cannons vs beams? Will each different weapon style be it's own visual or will they all just unrealistically shoot from the forward facing cannons?

Really cool looking ship after seeing the other views. I will add it to the ship list. However my next ship purchase is already decided (Romulan). So this could be the one following or in the near future. In the meantime I will check out the 3D views in the Ship Yard once its available.

The only bummer part is. I think I won't have a Tac Officers to make use of it. So I may have to get more Officer slots for my Fed Eng Captain to make use of it. I will have that figured out by the time I buy it. Since my Tac Officers are equipped for the regular Cruisers I have. Something I will have figured out by the time I get the ship. Once I see the stations on the regular C-store version. I will start planning that out. Plus I see some new gear I will have to get as well. Which that is not a problem.

Looking forward to blasting my opponents into dust with it. Thanks for making a killer cruiser.

Hope we can get some variations? I love to have a round deflector dish, and swept back nacelle plyons.

It has a Crew of 700, so it's not too small. About the same size as an Excelsior, maybe just a tad smaller then the Sovereign - which has 800 Crew.

    Yes indeed.

Upon closer inspection, I think there is another weakness ... not enough Tactical Abilities...TAC BO is Lieut. Commander... no no no...

That makes two sore points for me... I think I'll just keep commanding the Chimera.. and forget about getting any new ships...

I quit this game twice because of frustrating limits in Ships... I do not want to go down that road again...

I am happy with Chimera...I do not need the headache of switching to this ship...

    Thanks all for input, appreciate.

It's not an Escort or a Destroyer. :) If it's not your thing, great! It's not your thing. No one's trying to convince you to fly the ship. We're simply stating that as far as Cruisers go, it's about the best one ever made for the Federation. For the people who like flying Cruisers this ship is quite a boon. :)

I agree with you, everyone's got a different taste.

It's a great ship for ppl want to fly Cruisers, EXCEPT it is the most hideous cruiser ever made.

No matter how good this ship performs i won't buy such a ugly thing, ever.

    Yes I understand now.

I was misled by the Article's background Story...

I thought it could be another better Hybrid, between Escort and Cruiser...but a bit heavier... than the Chimera, which is actually a Hybrid.

But it is a Cruiser...its just called a Battle Cruiser and Made to Look meaner..for kicks and giggles....and sales of course at the store...

So my bad..I disappointed myself by being over enthusiastic based on the Article. ;)

I sure would like to see a Heavier ships based on the Chimera design philosophy... at one point...and it would be logical that a heavier ship than a heavy Destroyer would be called a Battle Cruiser...but anyways :P

...maybe it could be a Fast Dreadnought ...

    Thank you again.
