I love Legos. But when the ship actually looks like its a Lego model, in its own videogame, that's a bad thing.

Wow Cryptic never ceases to surprise me, they actually can make uglier ships then the partol escort.

As i said before numerous times before, Cryptics ship designers have absolutely no feeling how to make a Starfleet ship. Just slapping some armor plates on it, making it look as blocky as possible DOES NOT MAKE IT LOOK BETTER.
It doesn't even look dangerous or "cool" at all, it looks just like a clumsy kitbash nothing more.
    @cryptics designers,
have you ever heard these three words: elegant-fluid-balance ?
Thats how future Starfleet ships should look like, not like 22th century Starships on steroids.

I have made better looking Starfleet ships with LEGO when i was eight years old, lol.
Seriously Cryptic should finally employ some ppl that actually understand the philosopy behind Star Trek, and not some ppl trying to make a Star Wars/BSG or Stargate game.

You failed, completely missed the point what starfleet is all about.

Starfleet ships don't need to look military, "cool", dangerous or badass, because starfleet isn't just a generic human sci fi fleet. (no matter how bad Cryptics is trying to make it look like that)
They're essentailly the successors of NASA.
They explore the universe and do not bomb their way through enemy armadas. They build ships to end wars.
That means they are very well capable to fight and win (NOT just flying target practices, as cryptic made most Starfleet cruisers) but they are not build for this purpose alone. And in no way they should look like BSG Battlestars mixed with bad star trek ship designs. Philospohy is shown on the ships shape.
The Federation is NOT THE TERRAN EMPIRE!
But maybe i am asking for too much, maybe it's too complicated i don't know.

What i know is that there are hundreds of people having much more talent and potential to make good Star trek ship designs than cryptics "designers".
Maybe these ppl should get a chance to make some ships, i bet some real good designers would work for half the money Cryptic is giving their "ship designers" right now.
Considering the fact that the Federation has gotten more fine with militarization since TNG, and they've been embroiled in multiple wars (including STO's new ones), the traditional Starfleet designs have moved on in a new direction. Maybe not one you approve of, but it has happened.

Adding to that, since this Avenger class is a battleship, it's already not in-line with the original Starfleet aesthetics. So in reality, you can't hold it to the same standards imo

As for my non-reply opinion of the ship (pre-stats), I definitely like the general look as much as the various Enterprise's, but the nacelles and the deflector may take some getting used to :P
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Some of you folks obviously need to be designing your own Star Trek game, where all the Federation ships are "pretty" and "Trekky" enough. While you're at it, be sure to change all the blue lighting effects to pink or lavender.

Looks good to me, Cryptic folks. I won't be buying one, but it won't be as hard on my eyes as it apparently will for some other people here.

So when will we be seeing Romulan and Klingon equivalents?

DS9, the Defiant, the Prometheus (MVAM, thats some ship of peaceful exploration right there!), the Galaxy X, the Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, and Saber, all warships, all called and said you are talking out your buttocks.

The Federation has been at war for a while now, seems to make sense to me they might be pressed to make a heavy duty warship again.

You don't like how it it looks? Well art is like that. When the Ent D was first unveiled a lot of people nerd raged and toss tantrums too. Feel free to not buy it.

Yeah. The Patrol Escort, originally called the Fleet Escort, is my favorite Escort.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    *nods*

All people have to do is mix and match parts.

Yeah, I remember when they changed the name. :)

Using the word 'patrol' gave the ship more meaning.

It's almost time for the stat blog. We'll soon be happy, angry, or indifferent - just like always around here. :)

Eh, the problem with the blocky look being "more militzared" is the Armitage. The Akira is a well noted cruiser (in canon, escort in gameplay) geared for battle and to fight the borg. The Armitage variant with the hanger (I used it combined with the thunderchild parts) retains the sleek curves and lines that most 'modern' designs share.

That and honestly, with how the neck and saucer and engineering hull are, it would have been better to just merge the entire thing like a Sovereign hull.
