Am I in the right game forums? Cruiser love? Really?

Actually that is pretty freaking awesome if you ask me (and I don't fly cruisers). Makes me thinking similar to a strategic command/control craft.

    Pretty sweet... thanks guys!

Sounds interesting, however, in the blog it metions this.
    Command ? Strategic Maneuvering:

While this Command is active, the cruiser and nearby allies have their flight speed and turn rate increased. This Command is intended to give slower starships such as carriers, dreadnaughts and cruisers a needed boost to their turn rate and flight speed as long as they stay near the cruiser with this Command active.
However, later it doesn't mention carriers at all, only flight deck carriers. You might want to (depending on which is true) remove carriers metioned in Strategic manuvering, or add carriers later in the blog.

EDIT: Beaten 5 times. It just shows that I must not type post so long.

Every described Command is a boost to all players that are teamed with the Cruiser that runs them, so long as they remain within range of the Command's effects. That means that a Carrier grouped up with a Cruiser that's running this Command, can benefit from the increased maneuverability.

Yes, quite right, because also tehre is only 3 powers, and Battle cruisers get 3. Very well noticed.

So these comm arrays aren't new items, but just fluff to explain these new cruiser abilities?

So, the Avenger-class has five forward slots, and can mount dual cannons? Interesting...

Also, thank god for this. Cruisers and Science needed a good seeing too, glad that they're finally getting it.

With DCs to boot. Now let's see how high they set the shield modifier, then try to claim it won't be tanky

Dumb question (addressed to Devs and Players alike): Which ships exactly constitute the Dreadnought class?

Obviously the Galaxy-X, and I'm assuming the Zen-Odyssey & Bortas'que are included. Would the free versions of the latter be counted too?
How about the "Vo'quv Dreadnought"? Admittedly, that's the NPC version, not the playable Carrier, but I'm curious nevertheless.

Will the Federation's Assault Cruiser (both normal and Refit) be considered a cruiser or a battle cruiser by these rules?

Of couse it is. How could I ahve been so stupid. Thanks for the quick reply. You might want to clear up the phrasing on it to make it a bit clearer though.

It is funny, all I see are powers that indirectly make Escorts even more powerful.

The only way around this is to set the powers to not affect Escorts and Destroyers of any type....

Carriers will still benefit when they stick near the cruiser projecting the ability, so no, they do need to be mentioned right where they are. (The effect I think affects everyone, but realistically speaking, escorts are generally too all-over-the-map for them to really reap a noticable benefit. They just listed who the ability was designed to help.)

We now return to my regularly scheduled post:

    *makes a finger pyramid*

    Eeeexcellent.

Although lately, in CE and PvP, I have been suffering a bit of carrier pet and effects lag. If there's one downside, it's another permanent effect clogging up the graphics card.

    =O

Consider me floored. Not only are the two most common complaints about cruisers, turn rate and beam array power drain, being dealt with but you're also buffing the cruisers tanking and threat control at the same time.

    Wow. Just wow.

Personally I would have prefered your orignial idea of giving cruisers an "armor slot" or something similar. Anyhow, this sounds neat, too!

However: Why no "Attract Fire" for Battle Cruisers? This makes this superb Tank helper (i.e. a functionality that is important to each faction) a Starfleet-only power! Even worse: If I want to tank in my Battle Cruiser, and a non-tank Fed cruiser has that switched on, he'll greatly affect my tanking/aggro abilites!

Does Cryptic want only Fed captains to be the best tanks?

I did not like the initial screenshot for the Avenger, but new angle makes it look smexy....

Also: Just because the picture shows a 5/3 slot config, doesn't mean that that's the config for the Avenger. Probably is, but might not be.

It's a standard Cruiser, since it can't use dual/quad cannons.

1.) With DHCs (and decent turn rate) available, if a Battle Cruiser wants to attract fire, all it has to do is shoot more.
2.) If a not-tank cruiser turns on Attract Fire, it deserves what it gets. Which will probably be a sound whupping.

But only if they're teamed up with a cruiser. Imagine a team of 5 escorts vs. a team of 4 escorts and a good cruiser captain.

So this is the cruiser buff that we've been waiting for? I like it -- I don't think it goes far enough, though. I think cruisers should be fitted with a comm array equipment slot with a variety of comm arrays put in the game so we can customize the performance of the comm arrays to just how we want.

A comm array that gives an added benefit to a particular command, or skills elsewhere (like attack patterns, or batteries, or whatever), the possibilities are endless.

Of course, this could be seen as worsening the 'power creep' people complain about, but if science vessels are getting secondary deflectors they should either be a flat UI like with cruiser comm arrays, or given a secondary deflector equipment slot with similar gear in the game for them, etc.

No, teams are being made more powerful

Escorts by all rights SHOULD have the highest DPS - but that doesn't mean they're the best. just that they're good at that one thing. DPS is not the only thing that matters.

Cruisers here are going to be good at tanking and buffing. That's pretty useful - I can see an escort-heavy team dropping one of their escorts for a cruiser, just because the buffs are handy. The team as a whole is made more powerful, but escorts wouldn't be any stronger if there were no cruisers present.

Given their performance profile it's quite possible that the Negh'var and Bortas/Bortasqu' ships will be getting a slight rename to just plain cruiser or while still being called battle cruisers will be given the full set of cruiser abilities.

Alternately the Feds are being given something unique to try and balance the fact that there's not a single Klingon (race as opposed to faction) cruiser that can't equip dual cannons.
