As you may have seen, we're testing some changes to the event on the Redshirt test server: Click here for patch notes.
The current plan is to get these live on Monday morning after testing during the weekend. If you have a chance to jump on Redshirt and check out the changes, please be sure to leave your feedback in the Redshirt Feedback/ Discussion forum.
We're also going to be looking at extending the end-date for the event, and once I have more details, I will be sure to share them with you.
In the meantime, if you are in a map with an overwhelming amount of Mirror Universe ships, I would recommend you and your teammates to solely focus on the Entity. Additionally, as the Normal version of the event awards shards every 20 hours to eligible players, it may be best so run this version until the fixes go live. You will be getting a tad less Nukara or Fleet Marks each run, but Normal should get you through the Entity quicker, allowing you to get even more Marks from another event during the cooldown than if you were to run the Elite and take a bit longer.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we addressed your feedback and concerns with the event, and fixed a few bugs.
Are you 100% certain that the Terran ships are not firing on the Tholians or CE, and not being chased by Fragments? That would be different than what was observed during local testing.
If left to their own devices, a good portion of the Terran ships are likely to end up aiding players against the Crystalline Entity. Unless something has gone wrong.
If everything is working as originally intended, then one potential 'solution' for this phase (if it appears - it doesn't always) is to ease off on the use of AOE abilities like Cannon Scatter Volley, Beam Fire-at-Will, Photonic Shockwave, Tractor Beam Repulsors, etc. Unless, of course, you WANT every nearby ship shooting at you, instead of one another...
Hey, you know what would have been a good idea? Putting it on a test server a week before launching it! That way this could have been resolved before it became a problem! Too bad we don't have a test server or two that could be utilized for such a thing.
There another thread on this matter which has probably been merged with this one with a much used phrase:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Every time I have entered the event it has been via the public queues. I have only ever entered the event on Elite. Normal is supposed to be easy, so far as Elite goes:
I have completed it. Many many of the people who have posted in all the threads relating to the event have also completed it. In short, IT AIN'T BROKE, SO DON'T FIX IT.
"So my fun is wrong?"
No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.
I have completed it a few times too, even after getting mobbed by mirror ships... you just have to deal with the problem.
Getting fed up with people punking out just because it gets hard... it is still winnable... just suck it up princesses and fight it out.
I've only had to quit twice because after shaking off the mirror ships, I couldn't get the entity down by myself (or with 1 other ship that refused to give up) and if even a quarter of the original ships still stuck it out with us, we would have won...
If you just wanna go blow stuff up, there are all those red balls in sector space for you to go do it... I LOVE when things get hard... and I'm having a blast when we get overrun and we have to work through it.
It _IS_ possible, and if you plan your tactics right, you'll get the mirror ships finally off your back... just don't engage the ones that are still at the rifts they came through.
OK! there is only one fatal flaw in what you say. Here's my question to you. Are you going to tell everyone when starting a pug in the about .7 seconds it takes when you start a mission before everyone start to kill everything because they think its the right thing to do. How long after STFs are released or changed before every noob or person who has played it multiple times or even just the person who is playing the mission for the first time. All of whom are blameless in what they are doing.
My stated is NOT "flawed", it's the "players" who engage in that manner, that ARE "flawed" for THINKING that it's the "smart" thing to do, by simply ignoring any form of communication, at the start, ESPECIALLY of an event such as this, and going ALL "Leroy Jenkins" into the encounter. And YES, it shouldn't have to happen in ANY encounter on normal, elite, or otherwise.
It's UNFORTUNATE, that we have to deal with those players that "run in gun-ho" thinking that they can conquer anything by being the first one in the fight without FIRST figuring out a "plan of attack" that the team can execute. This ISN'T a "solo" event, it's a "TEAM" event. As MUCH as it may frustrate the HELL out of YOU and ME, and the "like-minded" when it happens, it's just something we have to deal with, and HOPE that one day, those selfish minded players will realize it's not about them and their ignorant ways.

Dude, removing 25% of the Mirror ships isn't enough to take the stress off players with low-end graphics cards.
Remember you got:
Player ships
Player NPC spam
Torpedo Explosions (where for me, Plasma Torpedo explosions really lag the heck out of my system)
Various Particle effects
The CE itself
The CE shards
and then the various NPC ships.
You need to remove ALL of the Mirror Universe ships, because you can sure bet that even if this patch goes through, people will still avoid any instances with Mirror Universe ships.

Thank you for the update. I may be able to complete this with my main character. So far I have found the only way to complete it is play with my middle of road (ie worst) ship/character. While not the highest damage per hit, I survive long enough to do some significant damage. Came in third the last time I used them.
Play with best character/ship combination, I get creamed before even getting near the CE. And this is with no AOE and not engaging anything but the CE. Can't ignore the MU when they all fire on you.
What have I learned, my primary ship is too good. Use the sleeper of the bunch.
Peaceful exploration? I have a heavily armed ship and a phaser with a kill setting, how peaceful is that?
Ran 6 alts this morning, dunno if it's my luck, but it looks like the players have learned to ignore the MU ships and just melt the CE. Quick runs this morning, not bad considering the mess and confusion yesterday.
Haha! This is precisely what I predicted, a few pages back, would happen:
It's still a bit harder than regular CCE; but not overly so. And the Entity itself, indeed, seems weaker: it just takes about as long to kill her as before; but that's because ppl allow themselves to focus too much on the Mirror ships.
I suspect, within a few days, the vast majority of Elite-gangers will have adapted, and ppl will look back and wonder what the fuss was all about.
I hope those who immediately cried for a nerf will take some sort of lesson from this. Maybe "The boy who cried Nerf." or something.
General question to the group. How do you ignore the MU ships?
I found that even when I do not target them and try to fly around the groups. As soon as I open fire on the CE, they all open fire on me. Sometimes I am just flying by and they open fire.
So while I am ignoring them, they are not ignoring me.

Youre missing the point. Yes they will still shoot you, they shoot us too. The thing is you need to keep your damage on the entity and resist the urge to waste it on the mirror ships.

It just seems like that many are saying just ignore the ships and that will solve the problems.
I haven't seen that too much. If I cannot get to the CE or only get a few rounds of shots off because the ships I am ignoring have opened fire, then stating "Just ignore the ships" is not really a solution.
The solution seems to be "fly towards the CE, pray you get a shot off, respawn, rinse, wash, repeat" .

Yes, exactly this!
I found that circling the Entity works best for me (it doesn't even have that annoying planet nearby any more, where your screen gets white when you get too close). That way, whatever Mirror ships are targeting you, will only do so for a little while (they don't follow you around the CE), and then they are out of range and have their target-lock broken. Sure, others ones will target you now; but, on a whole, they're a mild inconveniene, at best.
The thing, indeed, is to focus on the Entity. It's very tempting not to do so. After all, we shoot at everything in Fleet Alert, Starbase 24, Mirror Incursion (!), etc. Resist that urge. It's not even helping, and actually even making things worse: the MU vessels will just keep spawning, and you keep 0 extra DPS on the Entity, who will just start to heal itself in the meantime. Ergo, you're looking at a total fiasco. The mission is over when the Entity dies: the Mirror ships, other than to destract you, play no part in this.
It just seems like that many are saying just ignore the ships and that will solve the problems.

Not really no. Self healing is an important skill to master in something like this. The secret to a monster ship really isnt so much its raw damage output, but rather its ability to stay alive while it is doing it.
This is why I run the fleet advanced vs something more raw DPS like the defiant or kumari. I still do massive damage, but I have quite a bit more self healing (lt commander sci), and i can use that on teammates if need be.
Anyone who has been along with me for ESTFs knows I am the "hero mode" escort that is usually there first, taking all the aggro and usually holding it. Most escort pilots pop doing this, but the way I am kitted out I can usually survive a tac cube and or gateway for 2-3 minutes if not indefinitely. Even if I can only stay alive 2-3 minutes that is usually enough to put it out of its misery by myself, and even less with a team.
Note that even in elite CE, as long as I am mashing my up arrow in between tac teams, the CE usually cannot kill me even when I am pointed straight on with it. It takes one hell of a crystallize buff for it to do enough damage to knock both my facing out and get into my hull deep enough for me to worry. (Not to mention that I often LIKE running under 50%, because Go Down Fighting is an amazing skill) This way, I can keep my 45 degree killing arc right square on it and maximize my damage contribution to knocking it down.

hey whooaaa whoaa, come down off the horse there pal... so a few people had a few good experiences.. remember, not everyone gets an OMG MU event.. some CE instances dont even have one.. some have a few.. some have alot..
last night was bad.. thismorning was ok.. (as in i got into the ones without the zzerg of mu ships).
but tonight.. well, i decided to farm it for dil and fleet marks, and boom, almost every single one i got into were zergs, and almost every single one had more people who didnt know what was going on than did..
its not nerfing it, it is making work as intended.. it was intended to work as if you ignore the mu ships, they would ignore you.. i cant even fly near one without getting attacked.. nevermind heal myslef and suddenly 50 are on, as well as i usually have the ce's full attention..
stop trying to make yourself look better than everyone (cause its getting rather old, yes, every single one of your posts in this thread has been condiscending to pretty much everyone commenting in the thread) and let us communicate with the devs and make this work for everyone, and not just the few lucky ones who had decent runs..
as for the news that they are actually testing a fix.. yay.. cant waite to have said fix go live.. it sounds interesting the way it was supposed to run...
Youre missing the point. Yes they will still shoot you, they shoot us too. The thing is you need to keep your damage on the entity and resist the urge to waste it on the mirror ships.
oh god, this would help in the meantime while we are waiting on the fix.. though i love it when you respawn, and boom, theres a hundred mu ships there cause of the people who are not on the know of what to do...
the two good runs i did, had this mentality, the other 10 were not so good, and did not employ this mentality hahaha..
but eventually i whispered enouph peeps to get them to change tactics and boom, we got it done..
Why even render anything at all... just put up some text icons showing where all of the ships are so those with cheap graphics cards don't have to miss out! Why should those of us with plenty of shaders on our cards get all the fun?

Ah yes, lets make content where only the elitest with high end machines can play content. Who cares about the medocre players who have to pay bills and raise kids.
The engine needs some serious overhaul to handle more entities and effects if Cryptic wants to add more large scale content. I can't imagine what the Dyson Sphere will be like if we have high population maps to deal with, not to mention the sphere itself, assuming it's a resource hog.

Capable cards are very affordable... this isn't Gears of War or something else intensive like that... the cards I'm using I would consider very low end... so low end that I'm at the bottom of the pile with the friends I play against, and these cards have no problem with STO with power to spare. Seriously...

There's a fine line between deliciously difficult, and downright punishing. This is punishing. There is no enjoyment to be had when you join a match already in progress, and its gotten so far out of hand already that you die...at the spawn point...in less than a minute.
At the very least these things need to be leashed so they can't mob the spawn in points.

Look, you guys choose what is important to you when you buy your computers, and if you're having difficulty using it for something it wasn't designed for, I have a hard time scraping up a shred of sympathy about it.
Next time, figure out what is important for you to have when you buy a laptop, be honest about it, and stick to it.
If you can't quite afford it yet, then instead of just putting down your money on something less capable, walk out of the store with your cash, wait a few paychecks, and come back and get the one you actually wanted...
As for those of you with kids and bills to pay... well, guess what...
SO DOES EVERYBODY ELSE! So give that excuse a rest, you're not special just because you have to do what everybody else has to.

I'm 100% sure that the Terran ships don't fire on my Starfleet Vulcan unless I fire on them, and the mission ends very quickly and easily.
I'm 100% sure that the Terran ships (as well as the Tholians, Fragments, and Entity) attack my KDF Orion, and it takes forever to finish, and I die repeatedly.
I'm 100% sure that the Terran ships (and the other enemies) attack my KDF-allied Romulan, and it takes almost as long to finish as on my Orion, and I die almost as much.
All of my toons are level 50 Science Officers. The Vulcan's ship is actually the weakest of the lot, but she has epic weapons and nearly epic shields. The Orion's ship is excellent, and she has better BOffs and DOffs. Her shields are comparable to my Vulcan's. Her weapons are weaker, but she has Advanced Slavers (and I know how to use them; I didn't get that ship in the recent giveaway, but have had it for months). The Romulan's ship is better than the others (weaker hull), and she has epic or near-epic everything. I'm using the same desktop computer for all of them, and I don't usually have much delay at all (only lag when the server is experiencing latency or my internet signal strength is fluctuating).
I believe this is Terran bias against the KDF. I'm not joking. The Terran ships don't seem to bother my Starfleet officer, but they attack my KDF and KDF-allied Romulan officers without any provocation. The Romulan has an advantage with the advanced battle cloak, but once she attacks the Entity, she's pounced upon by every other enemy in range that isn't already engaged in battle, as well as the Entity.

I have twins!! One Fed-romulan/reman sci and one KDF romulan/reman sci girls - both fly the fleet T'varo - Identical builds - Torp boats. Why firing from the Enhanced battle cloak the fed gets almost NO fire incoming - the KDF ship is attacked by every ship in range + the entity doing the exact same thing. Both should receive identical attention as the are identical except for alliance - but the KDF is attacked 10-1 - bias??
Hmm?? It's probably just my imagination and I should keep the tinfoil hat on.
Until it gets patched, survival really is the key to finishing off the Entity, so break out your cruisers and engineers.
I fly a Ha'apax Advanced Warbird as a Romulan Engineering Captain (well..Subadmiral, now) and went into it tonight focusing on attacking just the Entity. I made sure not to use FaW, and I had a plethora of defensive CDs to call upon if I found myself drawing aggro from both the Entity and the endless Terran fleets. I also kept circling the Entity which I think helped to occasionally break targeting range with the Terran ships. I only died a couple of times and I ended up getting first place.
To be fair, though, my group kind of got lucky as, after awhile, I think the Entity finally floated far enough away from the Mirror Universe rifts, so the Terran fleet did seem to thin a bit eventually.

What have I learned, my primary ship is too good. Use the sleeper of the bunch.
Peaceful exploration? I have a heavily armed ship and a phaser with a kill setting, how peaceful is that?
Haha! This is precisely what I predicted, a few pages back, would happen:
I hope those who immediately cried for a nerf will take some sort of lesson from this. Maybe "The boy who cried Nerf." or something.
I found that even when I do not target them and try to fly around the groups. As soon as I open fire on the CE, they all open fire on me. Sometimes I am just flying by and they open fire.
So while I am ignoring them, they are not ignoring me.
Peaceful exploration? I have a heavily armed ship and a phaser with a kill setting, how peaceful is that?

(as in i got into the ones without the zzerg of mu ships).
but tonight.. well, i decided to farm it for dil and fleet marks, and boom, almost every single one i got into were zergs, and almost every single one had more people who didnt know what was going on than did..
its not nerfing it, it is making work as intended.. it was intended to work as if you ignore the mu ships, they would ignore you.. i cant even fly near one without getting attacked.. nevermind heal myslef and suddenly 50 are on, as well as i usually have the ce's full attention..
stop trying to make yourself look better than everyone (cause its getting rather old, yes, every single one of your posts in this thread has been condiscending to pretty much everyone commenting in the thread) and let us communicate with the devs and make this work for everyone, and not just the few lucky ones who had decent runs..
as for the news that they are actually testing a fix.. yay.. cant waite to have said fix go live.. it sounds interesting the way it was supposed to run...
oh god, this would help in the meantime while we are waiting on the fix.. though i love it when you respawn, and boom, theres a hundred mu ships there cause of the people who are not on the know of what to do...
the two good runs i did, had this mentality, the other 10 were not so good, and did not employ this mentality hahaha..
but eventually i whispered enouph peeps to get them to change tactics and boom, we got it done..

Quoted for truth.
I can't run the 20 ship fleet mission because even though my Laptop was cutting edge two years ago it just bogs down too much.
I do plan to build a new tower rig at some point but my bills come first.

Yeah, I don't think it's your imagination.
