Within just a few days, we've gone from riotous complaints about the difficulty of the Crystalline Cataclysm (Elite) to bored angst over ranking after the encounter.
Last night i won first place just by fighting and healing myself... i just stood there attacking the entity, and resisted the impact of the antiproton wave twice and heal myself, so, it's a mix of healing and DPS.

Hey I wasn't one of the complainers. I like the harder version which required premades.
Now I just wanna farm it in a PUG because I can.

That's where the problem with the ranking in CE lies.
In the end, people who play smart (keeping stacks down, avoiding the wave, avoiding shards) get punished for it, while the people who take unnecessary damage and are a burden on the group rank above them...
Imho damage taken by both shards and the wave, as well as stacks on the CE should count against a players healing and damage, while removing debuffs should count towards it.
Don't take me out of context! I was expelling the pent-up frustration at trying to top a PUG chart!! Not complaining!!
I was just joking about the propensity on these forums for people to complain to get something fixed, and then people complaining about the fix.... nothing on you personally. If anything, it's indicative of why we don't see many devs on the forums. If all I could look forward to in my job was complaining about fixing things, and complaints about eh fixes and little kudos on the good things, I'd likely avoid the place too.
It did not require premades. I completed it in a pug. I complimented the devs on making a challenging event.
It required people to read the info presented them at the beginning of the encounter and learn from their mistakes. Apparently that's too much to ask of players, who just want to relax and have fun.

The way I justify running a debuff ship on some of my toons for the event is that I get rewarded with a very fast run, since I'm running 10 characters though that is better than any loot!
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug.

The harder versions didn't need premade. All they needed was clarity of thought + a little skill.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
That said, I still managed to get it done on all my characters every day before the event was corrected. And thanks for the correction Cryptic.
My bigger issue was that I would drop into an instance and there would be a battle in progress and the previous team would have already triggered a cataclysmic spawn that would make it impossible to win. And in a few cases it seemed that the battle had just started and there were dozens and dozens of mirror ships already. It's like showing up to the party and the house is already on fire.

This is a great point, I get weirded out seeing people staying inside the blasting zone continuing to fire on the thing amping its power. It runs completely counter to the common sense of how the encounter should play out.

Well, several of my chars can tank the blast wave, so they don't NEED to move. If you're a Romulan you can use the Phasing cloak to avoid it(once, the CD is too long to do it twice). combining RSP with other shield buffs works well too.

I stay in the blast zone to debuff the charging cycle. It's a valid tactic.
Never get blown below 40% hull even at point blank range. Good setup i guess.

Can anyone confirm please if the DOFFs are bound to character, account or not bound at all?
Unique Doffs are usually Bind on Pickup and flagged to be unable to donate them to Fleet Projects, or Reassignments.
Since Mariah Kilara Marr is not a special species and does not possess a new active roster power, we chose not to call her Unique, and subsequently didn't go this extra mile for her. She can be freely trade until slotted into your Active Roster, as well as eligible for Reassignment and Fleet Project donation.
Keep in mind though, that you may never be able to obtain her again, should you dismiss or trade her away.
As with pretty much everything in the game, please keep in mind that this can potentially change. But that's the current status.

After all, the real objective is to beat the other players, and if you can sabotage them, why not?
I thought that the objective was to have some fun protecting our universe from the CE and in the process pick up some goodies, but that is just me. I am fairly new to STO (end of May) and am not in a Fleet or have PvP'd, I am continually learning the nuances of weapons load outs and BOFF skills to better my game skills and ship builds and modifying them as I go along. My Ar'kif does ok in this but I will usually die once or twice. I may try the next time with my Scimitar. I know some people are so good that they can take out the CE single handed just armed with an Environmental Suit and a Lirpa.
I have run this for the last seven days and on one or two an extra once or twice for the dil. I had started out on Normal mode and before the patch it could be brutal, one day entering the fray right in a mess of dozens of MU ships that immediately opened fire on me. Only one time did I have to drop and re-enter; I was one of only two ships left as some in that PUG had aggro'd MU vessels to the point that there were over a hundred on screen.
After reading this thread, the last four nights I have run it in Elite mode and did just as well as I did before the patch in Normal Mode. It is fun and really my first PvE queue type activity.
I applaud the fix Cryptic put in to make this a quick, fun event to provide people with some goodies. I have been taking Nakura Marks as the reward so I don't have to run those quests as often. I will probably take Omega Marks as the final prize so I can finally get some of those to get that rep faction going.
Thanks to all out there that know what they are doing, it helps make us all better Captains.

Hello, I was one of the ones, who couldn't play the game last week because of the patch one week ago. Now it's fine and I can play fine with ONE BIG EXCEPTION:
The crystaline event is now unplayable for me. It is only one big lag and I minimized the graphics as good as I could, but it stays unplayable. Is here anyone who has the same problem or someone who can give me a hint what to do?
I had thought this one had been reworked to be a little less succeptible to inept teams TRIBBLE you over, but alas, it is still possible for a bad team to make it un-completable for me.

How bad did it get? I've seen 250+ stacks of the Recrystallize buff...

When you queue to Crystalline Cataclysm and when you land in an instance where CE blew up 20 seconds ago. You get no shard, you get no reward pack but you still get a 30 minute cooldown on CC!

Then people would be forced to play the CE as it was originally intended. Avoid shards, get out of blast range...
Alas this would just be nerfed...

I definitely move out of the blast area as it is when I see 5-6 people BO'ing the thing to death through teh absorbtion cycle.
