Been away for a bit but came back to the grind last night.

Couldn't find 'The Big Dig' in the list - has it been removed/retired anyone know?

when you open a new assignment. and want to select an officer. you get the pop up. with options like.( rarity, traits on/off and specialization.) how do you start off with no specialization ticked. its pointless having to go and turn each one off just to highlight the only one you want. each time you need to find the only officer you need.

with the exchange, I have troble sell then in 5 mins everthing sells. I put tribbles on for 5ec, didn't sell for a few days, put a few more in for 4ec, did sell for a few days. the put a few more in. the 5ec sold befor the 4ec and 3ec. same thing with items of all sorts. is it just me or have others seen this happen,

and also is there a way to delete one of my older post. its not under the edit tab.

I was doing the "Welcome to space dock mission"

Several of the queued missions were temporarily removed because they were buggy. We got most back last week, should get big dig and the rest this Thursday or next. However, almost no one runs that one and we have the mirror event going, so you might end up waiting a looking time to run it.

Sadly, there is no way to save your choices in the doff selection list. This has been requested, but I have never seen a Dev respond to it.

First, just discard tribbles, they're not worth selling, use that time to play. What is happening is that someone else is posting an item for less than you, and only the cheapest item sells so yours waits around.

You cannot delete a post, what people often do is use edit to erase the words and just say "duplicate post removed" or "ignore this" etc.

There is no "best" it all depends on your goals and play style. Something that is great for a tank is useless for a pur damage build. And science ships often use draining abilities etc.

In general, if you just want basic stuff that works almost all the time, then in omega rep look at the assimilated engine and deflector, elite fleet adaptive shields or the omega rep maco shield. Weapons, the top damage are romulan plasma (romulan rep), antiproton (fleet and voth lockbox), and bio-disruptors (counter command rep).

But if you let us know how you like to play and which ships you like, we can give far better advice.

First, thanks for all the helpful stuff in this thread! It really does help!

Second, I am hoping for ship advice.

I have been playing for about a month and I have a pretty good handle on things mechanically, I think, but I'm getting close to hitting 40 and I'd like to pick up a ship that will last me all the way to 60 and maybe even beyond.

I am in a small fleet with real-world friends, so while I have boatloads of fleet credits, we're probably not moving beyond Tier I anytime soon. Also, I love science ships and having science abilities on tap (though I prefer to play tactical captains) and I am looking at the one of the Multi-Mission Reconnaissance Explorer ships as my long-term ship, to combine science abilities and a run and gun play-style.

Is that a bad idea? If not, is any one particular MMRE better than the others? The Aventine certainly seems tempting with that big gun.

And while we are at it, I'm learning to play the market and crafting parts of the game as well and have 40-50 million EC on tap. Is a Plasmonic Leech console worth spending that on? It seems like a staple of a good many successful builds.

Thanks in advance for any help and I apologize for getting newbie all over the forum. :D
The leech is pretty widely considered the most powerful console, however the reality is that 40 million is not a lot, and the maco shields from omega rep are almost as good, but will consume far less of your resources.

You might want to save up for a tier 6 ship. With 40 mil ec you're almost halfway to the hazari destroyer and well on your way to a voth palisade or M

well im not sure. im not the best at builds. I watch a lot of u-tube. and know like best, consoles for a plasma ship, to a phaser ship, to a anti proton ship and so on. but I just want and all round good weapons and good defence that I don't have to rebuild for every type of enermy. I pretty much stick with my jem;hadar carrier.

The jem dreadnaught is a great ship, I'll give you two builds one almost free you can put together from mission awards and one to work on over time.

First: get the jem haddar set from cardassian missions, plus the obelisk warp core from the mission with worf. Get 8x cheap plasma beam arrays and at least Mk 11 green tactical consoles. Use anything you want for sci/eng consoles, but one neutronium is good.
    Boffs:
Tac 1: tactical team 1, beam overload 2, beam fire at will 3, attack pattern beta 3
Tac 2: tactical team 1, attack pattern beta 1
Eng: emergency power to weapons 1, auxiliary to structural 1
    Sci: polarize hull
Universal -> eng: engineer team 1, rotate shield frequency 1
    Or
Univ -> sci: hazard emitter 1, science team 2 (can swap these if you prefer)

This works for all game content, and is quite survivable. There's plenty of easy tweaks, like tractor beam + doff instead of polarize hull. So experiment and find something that works for you.

Try to keep attack pattern beta on the target your fighters are shooting. This is one of the only ways to increase pet damage.

    Long term:
    Omega rep
    Assimilated universal console
    Kinetic cutting beam
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Assimilated_Deflector_Array
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Assimilated_Subtranswarp_Engines
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/M.A.C.O._Resilient_Shield_Array

    Romulan reputation:
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Zero-Point_Energy_Conduit
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Experimental_Romulan_Plasma_Beam_Array
As many romulan plasma beam arrays as you can get for free from the daily/hourly boxes, especially mk12 purples

    Delta reputation
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Universal_-_Bio-Neural_Gel_Pack

Buy from fleet dilithium mine one or two neutronium armor with any mod you like (HP is my favorite, turn is good too)
From fleet embassy one or two +plasma damage science console with any mods you like (I like shield emitters for bonus healing)
From fleet spire 4x tactical console (crit chance is slightly better than crit severity, but whatever you like works)

For weapons: in addition to the experimental and romulan plasma beam arrays, buy some corrosive plasma beam arrays if you find ec easier than dilithium. The romulan plasma have the -10% resistance proc so they help boost your fighters' damage. Corrosive plasma do more burn by your own firing.

For bridge officers, get your diplomacy duty officer skill to rank 4 and take a nausican boff for the pirate trait boosting your damage. Look to get saurian or human officers with the efficient and leadership traits if possible.

You'll be good to go. This isn't optimized, but it's easy to use, solid damage, survivable, and boosts your pets. If you use the +threat sci consoles you'll help your fighters survive and the maco shield will drain enemy power plus boost yours. With -threat, your fighters will die a lot, but they'll meat shield for you.

and i'll see what I can do with the jem builds.

What you're probably seeing on the auctionhouse are the effects of weird searching. It defaults to lowest price, but smart people search lowest price per unit. However searches in "all" give fewer results than searches in the correct category. The missing items from searching in "all" are from all ranges of price, not just the most or least expensive.

My favorite use for engineers are science ships. With miracle worker backing up the huge shields of a sci ship you can handle a lot of damage, and the biggest weakness of sci ships is their need to have both aux and weapon power, but engineers get two +energy captain abilities.

Best damage in the game right now does happen to be a TAC captain in a scimitar, but with a mean particle damage build you can run well over 50k DPs* in the better science ships.

*effectively, via doubling of effective damage by doing only damage that ignores shields, see this thread for more info:

Could anyone tell which ship prefixes are available for the R'Mor science vessel? Only RRW? No IRW?

Would it be possible to have bare paws for the caitian in the Omega Force outfit slot after purchasing risian outfit? Or it is only for the Off Duty slot?

    Thanks

Other than that it depends on what you want to earn. There are many queues, mission replays, foundry, etc. You said you don't like kobali, but try bug hunt elite. Gives awesome rewards and is pretty much impossible to fail.

As for the upgrade kits, crafting your own is kinda like using keys instead of selling the keys and buying what you want. Run doff missions for mats, sell everything then buy superior kits. Also, crafting and selling the level 10 green kits and buying the superior kits is better than crafting your own superior kits. NEVER use anything but a superior kit.

Irw is also an option for romulan ships, but I forget if it is all or them or only some.

Catian bare paws are only with specific pants/skirt options that have it as an option. If you want more options added try pming crypticjoejink, he's the totally awesome tailor Dev. And/or hitting the tribble forums and posting in one of his many threads about tailor changes.

Last I checked the r'mor isn't mirror so it should in theory only have R.R.W.

Last I check kitty paws are available for off duty and armor. My main char a cat uses full omega sometimes and shows paws though I prefer having paneled or hirogen gloves on

BZ to farm dil ftw.. Undine space zone less so but still viable. Fleet alert/MU event/Argala on advanced or japori on advanced for spec points or skill points.

Also crafting improved kits is no longer worth it prices have dropped by huge amounts. Superiors are becoming more costly to craft too unless you want to farm for the materials.

Self crafting will not be cheaper than selling mats and buying until cryptic stops selling crafting boxes in the store. Since they will never stop this, sell mats don't craft.

Just like keys, those with real world cash are buying boxes and crafting then selling kits below the price of mats because it's faster/easier. Pretty much every time I've checked I can buy a crafted superior kit for about 10% below the price of mats.

As for the greens, what counts is the comparative price to green mats. Since green mats sell for 400 - 1,300 each (depending on which of the four) its not hard to still turn a profit on the improved kits.

But with the queue changes mat prices will be dropping. Fortunately this will also pull upgrade kit prices down.

That depends on which rep and which fleet gear you are talking about.

With an engineer captain, your built-in skills (miracle worker, etc) are all about survivability, so you're not going to match DPS with a tac captain. But a lot of the same things that will help them in other ways will work for you too.

You'll want a ship with a lot of tac BOFF slots, and tac console slots. There are both escorts and cruisers that meet this definition, so take your pick.

You will however want to move away from wide-arc weapons to something with a narrower arc (either dual beam banks or dual cannons/dual heavy cannons on the front, and omni beams or turrets for aft, with some spots possibly set aside for torps and/or mines depending on your preference). The tradeoff is that these weapons do more damage.

For BOFF powers, you'll want ones that boost your weapons (BFAW or Beam Overload if you go with beams, Cannon Rapid and Cannon Scatter Volley for a cannon/turret build), and tactical teams and attack patterns. I prefer AP Beta and/or Omega; Delta seems inferior as it relies on the enemy attacking you first, and you will probably not need its survivability aspect.

In order to keep enemies in your firing arc, if you go with a cruiser, you will want to load it up with a LOT of turn boosters. The Fleet Neutronium Armor (+Turn) or Fleet RCS (+ResAll) are the best turn booster consoles you can get - if you have the lobi you can also pick up a Tachyokinetic Converter Console, which is a universal console with turn boosts (and other benefits), and there's also the Undine rep Hydrodynamics Compensator. If you go with an escort, this will be less critical as many escorts have much better turn rates (at the cost of survivability).

As for the rest of the build - a lot depends on what you want to do with it (exactly what weapons, etc). I'd go ahead and put a ship together with your chosen weapons, stick the proper consoles on it, and the Jem'Hadar or Solanae space gear set (since those are free).... and see how it performs. Then decide what space set to put on it to boost the things you need to boost.

thank you very much, this is most helpful :)
