    Hi again all.

I am still wet behind the ears here, so be patient with me.

My question is...How the hell do I reach Earth Spacedock? I'm not seeing it anywhere on the Star Trek Online Wiki and I have a quest which will take me there...Help!

The chance gets reduced at certain marks and drastically at each quality. Also, that link goes to the exact same picture for me.

That said, I have seen, but can't reliably reproduce and I didn't get screenshots, items drop back to 0% after being put in the bank. So, by memory, I had a torpedo with a 3% chance to increase quality, dropped it in the bank and two days later when I had more kits, it said 0% chance to improve quality. I know that has to be a bug, but no documentation means I'm screwed.

Sorry, this is the correct pic:

    http://oi59.tinypic.com/rus22r.jpg

I know the chance drops at each quality level, but I've never seen it drop at any mark before, and I've upgraded items all the way to Mk 14 epic.

Looks like you had a mark 12 purple that went to mark 13 fleet. So that's two correct things that will reduce the chance for a quality upgrade. Unfortunately, I think it might be working as intended.

Could try a post with both pics in the doff/rnd sub forum those guys will know for certain.

Welcome you found the right place to ask.

It is the Sol system in the beta quadrant. Where are you right now?

On your minimap on the lefthand side is a round icon. Click that and it does a popup window with "transwarp" destinations. One should be for Sol.

Also under the map is a list of all your missions. On the left of the mission name is a button for talking to the quest giver. On the right is one of two abstract icons that I can never tell apart. Fortunately, clicking that right hand icon whichever version, will get you to your goal. If you are in space in the beta quadrant, that tells your navigator to set course for your mission and your ship just fly's to the right spot on autopilot. If you are anywhere else you get a popup asking if you want to pay to teleport to the mission start location.

If none of that helped you, then tell us the name of your mission and where you are and we'll try again.

Thanks, I found the Earth Spacedock. Now I have a couple more questions...

1: How long must I wait before I can use the Zone chat?
2: I am a Level 6 Lieutenant. Which weapons/armor/equipment are best for me?

Thanks, I found the Earth Spacedock. Now I have a couple more questions...

1: How long must I wait before I can use the Zone chat?
2: I am a Level 6 Lieutenant. Which weapons/armor/equipment are best for me?

    1. Until you spend zen, get a subscription, or I think 20 days. I forget theexact day number. The important question is why do you want zone chat? It is almost always a horrible cess pit of profanity, ignorance, and spam. There are always better options than zone. Most players disable it in chat options.
So let us know why you want to use zone and we'll help you find tose better options

    2. It depends how you like to play. In space, in general beams front and a turret on back are easiest to learn with. Phaser is best for federation because of the delta recruit free gear. If you are having an easy time maneuvering, then get a single quantum torpedo, use it when your enemy shields are down.

Ground is really different. Your full away team is eventually 5 people including you. Everyone has different preferences. If you like to get right up in the enemy's face then try a pulsewave. If you like to hang back and get slow but deadly stacks try a sniper or split beam. If you like fast movement, flanking etc, then dual pistols or a full auto rifle. The compression pistol is a great, reliable weapon.

Try to give your team a mix of weapons, especially learn the expose/exploit mechanic and how to use it. I prefer three expose weapons (pulse wave, minigun, full auto, dualmpistols) and two exploiters on my team (sniper, split beam, compression pistol).

In general blast assault, wide beam pistols, stun pistols, and heavy rifels are considered weaker than other ground weapons. They work, but other options do more damage more reliably.

Damage type on the ground mostly doesn't matter at this level. End game they do, but you'll have time to learn.

When comparing items, both in space or on the ground, a color shift is mostly equal to one mark in power. So a green mark 4 is the same as a white mark 5 or a blue mark 3.

So I've seen this one ability while playing stf's that some people have and I can't ever recall their race or if they were a tac, sci, or eng. Wasn't paying attention to those and I wanted to know what the ability/trait was called.

The trait/ability in question looked like an AoE Stun/Placate that has a blue beamish thing that raises multiple enemies into the air for a brief time. What is it called and is it race specific?

I swear Its always a Starfleet character that uses it, though I could be wrong.

It is an amazingly cool device, you can use it yourself or give it to your boffs. You get it only during a "feature episode rerun event". There is usualy two a year, but its been quite a while since we had one.

It is available to both fed and kdf (and all Roms).

Well, I suppose the main reason I want to use the Zone Chat is to be able to ask people on there questions while I am playing the game. This way, I won't have to switch back and forth between window mode while playing.

Thanks for this information. I'll definitely put it all to good use. Now, I know I am probably a LONG way from reaching Fleet Admiral Rank, but I am curious...What is the highest level ship one can have? And if there is more than one, can you list up to the top three or top five highest level and most reliable starships in terms of all-around power, crew, and hull points? It would be appreciated...Many thanks in advance.

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Federation_playable_starship

The ship thing is confusing and lots of bad information is floating around with people inventing halt-tiers and so on. That page has pictures, a size comparison, and stats for every federation ship in the game.

The highest "class" of ship is tier 6-fleet. Anything from a lockbox or the lobi store counts as having the fleet modifier even though it won't appear in the name. This is a huge source of confusion for many people.

The highest damage ship in the game, however, is actually a tier 5 ship called the scimitar but it is only available to romulans. I believe the federation record is still held by the tempest, which is also a tier 5 ship.

Those are not the easyiest ships to use, however.

Realistically, in a month or two we will have the "summer event" and then grand prize will be a free tier 6 ship. Judging from the last few free ships this will be a very good ship. You should try to get it.

If you are willing to spend money some of the most reliable tier 6 federation ships are:
    Phantom intelligence escort
    Eclipse intelligence cruiser
    Guardian cruiser
    Presidio command battle cruiser
    Pathfinder science ship
    Scryer intelligence science ship

You can use the link above to get info on all of them, including pictures. Which one is best for you dependsmon how you like to fight. In general, the phantom and presidio are top damage, the guardian and eclipse are most survivable, and the pathfinder and scryer have the most flexibility and fun science powers.

That is a very brief overview though. There also the lockbox ships, some of which are excellent. Like the vaadwaur astika. And some of the older tier 5 ships are still great at what they do.

When you are near level 40 and have a better idea of what you like and dislike about space combat is when you'll be able to figure out which ship will work for you end game.

    Hi there.

First of all, thanks for all this wonderful and useful information regarding starships! It will prove to be a very valuable asset once I reach Vice-Admiral Rank. However, I'm going to be on the prowl for the free Class 6 Starship you speak of. If it happens to be even stronger than the Guardian Cruiser you speak of, then I am certainly going to want it! I am the kind of person who prefers more of a survivor starship and rifle weapons on the ground.

Speaking of which, what is the highest level auto-rifle weapon one ca get? I already somehow managed to claim a couple of high-level tribbes for free from the C-Store earlier tonight...XD!

In the 30s there is a mission in the cardassian arc that gives a jem hadar full auto proton rifle. It is only mark 11 blue, but it is an outstanding gun, easily one of the best around. Plus it is free.
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Jem%27Hadar_Armored_Shroud

Borg reputation (omega) also has a strong set with a full auto gun. The omega force carbine is mark 12 purple.
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Omega_Force_(Ground)

The last lockbox had some very cool vadwaur polaron weapons including a full auto rifle that looks like a .50 cal machine gun. Available in mark 2 up to 12 purple. These you get on the auction house.
    http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9063893-vaadwaur-lock-box-overview

Other than that there are all kinds of reputation wepons etc. And the new lockbox has some bioplasma weapon I haven't tried yet.

If you like the full auto, I strongly recommend after you get your first delta recruit story arc reward (includes 2million energy credits) you go on the auction house and find a romulan piercing plasma beam rifle. Only romulans can buy them, but anyone can use them. Thus they sell on the auction house. They are like full auto on steroids. Super fast firing rate, almost a hose of plasma bolts if you hold down the fire button.

All gear can be upgraded to a top of mark 14 and epic (gold) quality.

That video is by sarcasmdetector. He is one of the more helpful players for end game high damage builds. Not everyone likes him, but you can absolutely trust his advice and understanding of game mechanics. He does care about damage over everything else, which is not everyone's favorite way to play. He does answer questions here on the forums but mostly over on the sto reddit where his name appears lowlifecat@sarcasmdetector. Some people call him Jena which is the name of his best known character.

The Foundry is currently down for maintenance. When new seasons start like we had this week, it takes some time for them to "republish" all the Foundry missions, so it is usually down for a while. It won't be too long, however. You can look forward to it coming back online soon.

There's a thread I wrote up a few weeks ago here in the Academy, called "A New Starship: A Guide to Ship Acquisition", which will explain how to get free ships as you level up - you will receive a total of seven ships for free (the last of these is of course the most powerful... however... you are level-limited in terms of what ships you are allowed to use, until reaching level 50; the free ships are granted as you hit each benchmark level for unlocks, with the last free ship given at level 40).

There are also purchasable ships at each "tier" which are slightly better than the "free" ones, but generally still worse than the "free" ones at the next tier.

One thing I will recommend, as you are playing Starfleet, is to go out and purchase the Tier 1 "Constitution Cruiser" (aka the TOS USS Enterprise) right now. Even if you do not plan to actually fly this ship (it's pretty good at its level, but you advance past it fast), you can claim-strip-dismiss purchased ships to your heart's content, on ANY current or future character of the correct faction... and this ship comes with self-levelling phasers that are among the best ship weapons you can easily obtain for a sub-level-40 character, and may be used on any ship you fly.

In terms of equipment - you are level-limited in terms of usable equipment as well. It goes along with the same level progression as ship unlocks. Until level 10 you are limited to Tier 1 starships and Mk II equipment... then it increases to Tier 2 and Mk IV, for levels 10-20.... Tier 3 and Mk VI for levels 20-30... and so on up to level 50, when everything becomes usable. Within that limitation, of course, there are different "styles" of items, as well as the rarity/color/quality. (the above mentioned phasers, for example, are blue).
Aye, another thing you can do is once you hit level 10 is get he FE missions, get the universal tech upgrades, then for ground or space upgrade it once, the. Exit the upgrade window and it's upgraded, but the remaining upgrade charges stay so each time you level up just hit he upgrade button two more times and that will get you pretty far too

Hi, very new to STO. I keep reading that diplomacy reputation should take priority over others because it opens new missions and means of travel. Apparently the best way to increase diplomatic reputation is through the Duty Officer system. Currently I have a couple of diplomats on staff, but very few diplomatic assignments are offered.

    So..

    1) Should more diplomats, uncommon or higher, be added to my staff?
    2) How/Where does one acquire more diplomatic assignments?

    Thanks!

From what I understand diplomacy is like marauding on the kdf characters, you need to travel around the federation sectors to pick up the missions and as you go higher in diplomacy levels more open up. I may be wrong though I haven't really looked too deep into it.

First of all I would like to say thank you for offering this thread. It's nice to have someone who is willing to help others find their way.

As a long time Star Trek fan I have seen of course many episodes. During the episode "The Best of Both Worlds" a solution to the Borg threat was devised that would allow the Enterprise - D to channel a focused beam of phaser energy through the main deflector. I was wondering if this ever made it into the game. If so how could I incorporate this onto my ship?

The attempt failed if you remember. Loquetas was ready for it and the weapon did nothing.

In sto there are many abilities that use the deflector to harm the enemy. All of them are bridge officer powers from the science officer. Some of the most powerful and popular are energy siphon, tykens rift, gravity well, and tachyon beam.

Non deflector based science attack powers also exist, popular choices are feedback pulse, tractor beam and tractor beam repulsors.

Science ships get a second deflector and there are versions that buff different types of science powers. Plus there are officers you can assign to "active space duty" that make your abilities more powerful. Like one who routes the shield power you strip with a tachyon beam into a heal for your allies. Or one who inverts your tractor beam repulsors into pullers.

Using deflectors in combat is a huge part of sto.

Be careful how old the information is. Of the old "diplomacy !missions" for your captain, only two remain and you don't need to do anything to unlock them. One is on starbase 39 just go to the very farthest back room and talk to the lady behind the desk. The other is on bajor and harder to find.

Today diplomacy is mostly duty officer missions. These show up in the "current sector" and "first officer" tabs of your doff menu. The most important ones are found in cardassian space and ds9. These are story chains that unlock access to four different races embassy's and allow "officer exchange programs". But earth spacedock and the academy also have a bunch and so does the area near earth.

Then travel options are linked to your transwarp. As you increase your diplomacy score you get new transwarp destinations. Also at rank 4 (max) you get a free purple bridge officer from the kdf.

If you need more duty officers the academy has recruiting missions that give you free ones.

So I'm pretty new to this game and I was just wondering what a couple of things were and how they work. No one on the in game chat box was any help so I defaulted to the forums. Anyway, what are teams and how do you join them? Also, I saw something about joining other captains' fleets. What's that all about? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sto is a mmo that stands for massively multiplayer online game. The teams and fleets are a part of the multiplayer part.

Teaming means that you can join up to four other people and play missions together. You might have had experience with other games or heard people talk about a situation where experienced players and new players can't team up because of the power difference. Well, star trek is not like that. When you join a team you are asked if you want to "match grade" with the leader. This makes a high level friend be the same level as you if they join you on your missions, or makes you the same level as them if you join them. This way you can both still have fun. Also veterans who have had a subscription for 700 days give anyone teamed with them 5% bonus exp.

Some missions require teams, these are often called queues or stfs (special task force). These are repeatable short missions with lots of combat and minimal story intended to be played for the reward. Like saving a starbase from the Borg or a romulan mining camp from salt vampires (from the TOS episode man trap).

To make a team right click on another captain (either in chat or on your screen if you can see them) and in the menu select "invite to team". To join a team, when someone invites you that gives you a popup asking if you want to join them. Say " yes".

Fleets are social groups. If you have played other online games they are the equivalent of guilds. These groups can be up to 500 people or characters. Fleets offer a private chat channel and access to special gear.

Some fleets have special rules, like some only allow people to wear uniforms from the original series others only from next generation. Some are dedicated to only one race (like all bolians or all vulcans). Most don't care about any of that and are just about having fun and reliable teammates. Some focus on only specific parts of the game, like PvP fleets or end game content only. Some fleets are focused on the player not the in game character, like fleets only for mature gamers over 35 years old, or fleets only for people living in Australia or fleets only for women or one of my fleets is only for people who used to play city of heroes.

In general fleets are a group of people who like to team up together and who help each other and who have a common interest.

Hi everyone. I am getting ready to do the http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Everything_Old_is_New mission. The text on the STO wiki mentions having a Diplomacy Rank of 3 to gain an accolade. As of this date in 2015, is it still possible to gain Diplomacy? If so, how does one go about reaching Rank 3?
