except ferasans in STO don't use a pride system...actually, what system they do use hasn't been elaborated on, so cryptic would have to settle on one before releasing any ferasan ship with its own custom prefix

Ahem; KDF DOff (Flight Deck Officer, Purple) Hisow Ja'fus Anaun (from the "Unforgiven of Ferasa" Assignment Chain), her information includes a quote - "The Pride of Prides demands the commitment of the Blood Oath sworn by the Patriarch."

So Ferasans do use Prides and they also seem to play an important part in Ferasan society.

In this case, "the Patriarch" seems to be a title that refers to the Ferasan equivalent of a king.

Pretty much all "canon" for Ferasans, (Fan-made since we have nothing official besides the doff set) has them using a lion-pride structure.

and the doff gained from said chain uses the word 'Patriarch', which is not a term used in prides...in fact, a pride is used to describe a SMALL group of lions

ferasans are neither lions nor a small group, so if cryptic ends up going with that for an official designation, it'll end up being just one more idiotic move on their part

if anything, with the term patriarch being used to describe the leader of the ferasan people, cryptic should be looking into a Patriarchy system

I'd be happy to go with F.E.S. for Ferasen Empire Ship, and although the Caitian's are part of the UFP and Starfleet I would like to be able to use C.S.S. for Caitian Star Ship.

Also something to bear in mind is that Patriarch would be the closest human word to the title that Ferasens would use so the meanings may not be the same, and also no form of government has been alluded to, so the patriarch could be just the spokesperson and all the real power lies with a council or some other governing body. For all we know Ferasens could be ruled by a military junta!

well, since the ferasans are supposed to be an almost direct copy of the kzinti with the only noticable difference being that the females are smart, cryptic would most likely copy their form of government for the ferasans as well

and this is what MA has to say about it

    http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Kzinti_government

notice in the little info box the name 'Kzinti Patriarchy' is mentioned...which lends credence to my prior post that cryptic would likely make it a patriarchy if they ever decided to flesh out ferasan lore

Yes I have just looked that up, and thanks as I think I have another author to look into, but it becomes a question of how much do we relate of Niven's work to the Star Trek universe?

In terms of ST all we know is that the leader is known as The Highest Of Kzin, but if we were to adopt all of the KS lore as well then yes it would be a Patriarchy. If Cryptic were to do anything with it then for easiness sake it probably would follow that, but the point about the translation still stands purely because it is a program that translates one language to another, it may translate the words but could have different meanings and nuances that are not conveyed accurately.

translation doesn't really matter; humans are the ones playing STO, so humans terms are what are going to be used

that's why we call them romulans and they call themselves rihannsu

Out of curiousity, has anyone else noticed that Ferasans don't get the 'Jacket - Tight - Leather Vest' option with the bare arms?

I did notice this, as well. Probably has something to do with the full body textures or lack thereof. I've been using the vest with fur sleeves and then coloring the fur sleeves as close as I can to the head color to simulate.

Heh, you and me both. It has a nice effect, though the ends of the sleeve and the collar of the undershirt are minor problems. I covered them up with a set of gauntlets and the 'Scarf - Klingon Traditional' myself.

Just another reason why they need to give the cats (Ferasan and Caitian) an update; body textures, fur patterns, give the KDF a Ferasan carrier and fighters (preferably T5, level 50 so it's upgradable... and if it can have frigate hanger pets, that'd be even better), maybe add Cait and Ferasa into the game as planets (there doesn't even have to be missions there; just look at Andoria...)

Yeah, some minor issues there that can be concealed. But I, too, would love to see some feline body textures with various fur patterns, as well as expanding the available hair styles. It would really breath some new life into the species.

It is unfortunate that Ferasans don't get at least one race specific ship since Caitians get a ship and a fighter. It seems only right that Ferasans should get one, too. But since they don't, personally, I'm putting my Ferasan in the Kar'Fi. After all, it has "whiskers". :D

I went with the Mirror Vo'quv since I knew I wanted the Bird-of-Prey frigate hanger pets. Irks me a little that despite being the proverbial 'carrier faction', outside of Lobi ships, the KDF only has two pure-bred carriers and only one of those is going to be upgradable, which means that you have to decide which you want more, Bird-of-Prey frigate hanger pets or an upgradable ship...
