You don't need to develop a thicker skin in PvP zones if you choose not participate in it in the first place. And the majority of the player base have made that choice and the empty queues support that fact.
This argument is similar to, "My house is blue, therefore there is less traffic on my street."
There are many obstacles to PvP having nothing to do with the attitude being presented as prevalent among PvP'ers. Let's examine this a little deeper.
PvP'ers have a channel devoted to making contact with other PvP'ers, and where they share knowledge on the mechanics of the game for no other purpose than to improve the game of other players so they can have more intense and enjoyable matches. I suggest you join OrganizedPvP channel and just listen to what is going on there. In a short time you will become more knowledgeable about the game, and you will discover the rumors of the evil, hate-filled PvP'er is a lie.
PvP'ers on their own initiative and with no developer involvement whatsoever started PvP Boot Camp specifically to train players for PvP. This hardly sounds like the act of a group looking to pwn noobs for the lulz.
As for the constant insults, this is simply a lie propagated and repeated by players who for whatever reason do not want PvP in their game. I have never encountered this as a unique aspect of PvP. In fact, failing an optional on an STF is far more likely to result in abuse from fellow players than failing PvP. Rudeness is not any more prevalanet in PvP than anywhere else on the internet.
Finally, if you have specific incidents of abusive behavior by players, submit a ticket to the GM's who will deal with this. They do not want verbal abuse in their game, and griefers and harassers will be dealt with quickly.
It is true that I personally could use thicker skin. Also it is also worth mentioning that PvPers are some of the nicest people in game, willing to give you solicited advice, train captain skills, and tell you what they just smoked you with.
You're right, there are dozens of reasons people evade PvP. It's not the learning curve for everybody, but apparently it is for you as can be seen in the rest of your post:
Maybe if you try applying some sense and common knowledge instead of loking for spell books you'd do better. It's a MMO game, it's bound to have abilities like those.
Those built in abilities are to offset the fact that the science ships have only 6 weapon slots in a highly DPS centered game. I don't see why anyone should complain about that.
Aaaaaand now you're either trolling or trying to get people to laugh at you. (although I have no idea why you'd want people to laugh at you)
And using the " You can't spell 'BoP' without 'OP' " line? Are you for real?
LOL I had to dig for this as I haven't visited this thread for awhile seeing it encompasses and accurately demonstrates the "friendliness" of the PvP community, and the OP asked.
Anywho, my posts are all true and that usually sparks PvP indignation, no trolling neccessary. People will go out of their way to defend things that they see as beneficial to themselves regardless of how fair it is.
MMOs are bad.
I remember when Cryptic first put out Kerrat to try and draw in fresh meat for the PvP grinder, I never forgave them for that "Kerrat" on a stick approach, but it demonstrates the extremes neccessary to lure people in to feed the PvPrs.
I much prefer their latest approach of just ignoring the subject. I have and other than threads like this, it has pretty much went away.
