The scimitar IS OP, but only because of the consoles. The 5/3 weapons slotting is acceptable as the Andorian Escorts have a 5/2 setup (forgot about those did you?). The turn rate is appropriate for its hull strength - 40k - as my kar'fi has a turn rate of 7 and a hull of 38k. The ship isn't THAT enormous - slightly larger a Ha'apax. I think the stats are completely acceptable for this ship.
Stop complaining and just grind the 5000 zen to get it
Light Speed! - No, light speed is too slow. We need LUDICROUS SPEED!

Cruisers don't need a DPS upgrade. You need to learn how to make a proper Aux to Batt build and enjoy the era of the 12+k cruiser that some of us live in.
The scimitar should be a powerfully built ship considering it was made for warfare, look at it's canon characteristics with enormous weapons aboard and it's no wonder it has 5 forward slots. Of course it will fit into the game like any other ship, so stop complaining it's too OP when it looks to be a well balanced overall ship for it's size. Finally a massive ship with some teeth!!!
But a sign can be a distraction too. There might be a cloaked ship happy to oblige, but so can there be another ship ready and eager to kill them instead.
Everytime a new ship is released, a lot of people start whining "the ship is op". They'll stop sooner or later, once they release it's not op. Or once another ship is released, and they have something else to bash.
I think it's more the realization that Cryptic will not nerf anything sold to players for real money without an exceedingly terrible issue of some kind.
On top of that, the endless march of power creep continues on.
When the Ody was launched, it was in fact one of if not the most powerful cruiser at the time.
Fast forward to now, take a look at the Scimitar now take a look at the Ody.
That's unchecked power creep.
Those ships people bought in the legacy pack?
The ones that have everything Fed & KDF ships have and also have battle cloaks and special mechanics, and +2% crit BOFFs out the wazoo, and +25% damage from ambush with +10s to ambush duration boffs?
Expect some of that to be slightly inferior within 6 months, expect it to be very inferior within 12 to 18.
Sound far fetched?
Take a look at the D'Deridex, now take a look at the Scimitar.
I'm with the OP. Playing as a science character with only one real science ship - not counting the mirror or fleet variants - sucks.
Yes, duh, I know I don't "have to" fly a science ship. But guess what? I made a science character and I bleeping _want_ to fly one. Oh and preferably not one the size of a small moon. So stick that in your craw and smoke it!
It's odd really. I read this pre-lor-launch blog and thought science would be well catered for. I didn't think it was a good idea to have any faction focused more towards one career's stats or another but it seemed like Romulans and science were buddied up. Turns out not so much.
"Conversely, singularity cores focus on science-based stats and modifying a Warbird-class ship?s singularity powers, giving Romulan players extra tricks with which to dispose of their enemies."
The scimitars all being escort variants does seem to be in line with the federation tier 5 ship bundle offerings but that being the case, I think we need to hear something about the carrier and science vessel bundles. Soon.
Come on the jem bug ship is way more powerful then almost any other ship in the game even more then the Andorian escort. Let's face it the bugs are going to be blowing this ship up left and right at Ker'ret
As someone who bought the legacy pack, I'd say unless there's a lot of ships in there you want, save your money. The T'varo and its retrofit are good. The other ships are all pretty skippable.
The Reman doffs are probably the best thing about the pack. There's a blue gravimetric scientist and several good ones for military/espionage doff missions. Plus if they die you can just claim them again.
These scimitar ships don't particularly thrill me, but having just played several Romulans to 50, and a Federation, I think the OP needs to take a chill pill.
Romulans are not overpowered. Not by a long shot. They take power and defense hits which are supposedly "balanced" by the battle cloak, but there's rarely much/any point in cloaking. So Roms come out behind.
5 forward weapon slots? Sounds right to me. Theoretically they're supposed to be cloaked part of the time in combat so an extra forward weapon slot might actually go some way to making up for lost dps.
I got another guy telling me about aux to battery? Right like that solves all problems. Let me put it to you another way. You bring a cruiser you max it dps and bring it in to an elite stf, compare how long it takes you to destroy something, compared say to an escort? No I do not cry this ship is op every time one is released another assumption. If you bothered to read my last post you would have noted that I said Ill see how it plays out in the game. As it stands, the way its looking on paper, it is badly op to other cruisers. As for a escort that has 5 weapons slots, I am assuming you mean the Andorian one. Like I told that other troll I do not use ships that do not belong in this timeline.
So far none of you have brought one shred of evidence that says the Dreadnought did not get nerfed, or the galaxy is equal to the scimitar as a cruiser, or that the Defiant does not have battle cloak. Really? The thing can fire while cloaked lol.
I did not say the Romulans are op, I said the scimitar is op.
that is your fault about not using ships from the current timeline. The Scimitar is NOT OP, singularity cores hurt performance and using all three consoles for the turn boost hurts as well, besides that you have yet to see one in PVP, how can you possibly say it is OP or UP without seeing it in action first.

The scimitar is warship first and foremost, built for battle, anything but a tac/eng ship would not make sense lore wise.
Not saying Romulans do not need more true science ships, they do, but expecting even the science based scimitar to be one seems a bit off.
I was annoyed by it having 2 more turn than the D'deridex at first to, but 7 turn is still bad and the shifted weapon from the rear to the front will make it even easier for escorts to exploit that and eat it alive from behind.
For blowing up probes with DHC I'm sure it'll be ace, though I'm expecting to see plenty of them exploding when they get a millimeter too close to the gateway. If that console layout can be used to assume anything about BOFF slotting anyway.
To be honest its quite the opposite. The Scimitar is not OP but a bit underpowered to some degree. Compared to the Oddy, the Scim only has 40K Hull, far less than the Oddy. Diffirence between the Oddy and the Scim, is that the Scim is suppose to be a massive warship.
They call the Scim a hybrid Cruiser, a cross between a destroyer and a Cruiser - The thing is a massive battleship.
Also the boff layout is pretty much same across the board, which sets it at a disadvantage, compared to its contemporaries. I am referring to the combo pack, because the real value is in the three pack Scim for all the bells and whistles.
Uh, huh... Did you put in a support ticket about the offensive post? Or PM a Mod?

This is a fanboi fallacy that is simply no longer true. The JHAS is old news and the only reason it is still expensive is simply because of supply and the fact it is needed for the hangar pets, thats it. The andorian kumari has much more pure DPS potential than the attack ship. The JHAS is just another escort with an ok turn rate. I blow up bugships in 1 vs 1 pvp with my fleet Dhelan on a constant basis, and I will do the same with the Scimi. Just because you can not afford it does not mean its inferior to just another escort
Not saying Romulans do not need more true science ships, they do, but expecting even the science based scimitar to be one seems a bit off.
I never said I expected the scimitar or its variants to be a science ship. We had clear indications that the Tulwar had a science focus but I was familiar with the fed ship bundles so knew what that might mean.
I thought there was a chance the Tulwar might be a real science ship though. And there's no reason it couldn't be.
Science vessels can - according to the documentation - be built for damage. Putting aside exotic damage (which seems pretty weak-TRIBBLE to me), gravity well alone plus assorted aoe torpedoes can be pretty nasty.
So I think the claim that a science scimitar wouldn't make sense "lore wise" is very weak.
I suspect Kerrat will see Scimitar debris all over the place, at least until some players learn that sitting around for twelve seconds waiting for uber-weapon to actually DO something = ship turned into large Thalaron TRIBBLE cloud.
sooooo you dont even have experience with a 5 fore slot shop because "i don't use ships that dont belong in this time line" wow i bet you are a hit at parties.

Original Poster I want to welcome you to most of the responses you get. Because there are 40 year olds who act like 12 year olds if you dare insult the almighty Cryptic!
Original Poster, I agree with you. See what Cryptic is doing (and what most MMO's do eventually) is instead of fixing things, or improving on other such items in the game, is push out content to make the quickest buck possible.
I have been playing MMO's for 15 years (since EQ1 days) and when this starts to happen, it means the game is failing. I have seen it, and at this point you either keep playing with the current bad company just pushing new content and not caring about fixing, or just stop playing, vote with you wallet and end it.
I have. I just like to check the forums from time to time now to see the trolls, since when you don't agree with the massess they Either

The scimitar is a warship. the science vessels that are used in game use the the science equipment on their ship for offensive purposes. The scimitar was probably never made with science in mind, it was made as a very big, very scary ship for killing everything that got in its way.
So, now we have another Tac-Heavy ship for the romulans.
Cryptic, STOP TRIBBLE SCIENCE.
We have THREE Science vessels. THREE.
There are enough combat vessels. Release some science vessels to add some balance.
NOTE: Any comments that say "Use X ship" will be ignored. This is a thread about ships, not gameplay.
5x Sci slots and a Well roudned Boff layout with a Lt. Sci and a Lt.com that can be sci is weak as a sci ship... k.
Only thing that doesn't make it a " sci " ship from the standards I seem to sense on forums is its lack of sensor analysis, but that'd make it over the top. lulz.

If thalaron pulse is boosted by partigens, that sci version of scimmy has potential to become literally a 1 shot cleaned stf type ship.
eguip 5 particle generator embassy consoles. use 3 piece set, use isometric charge if you want to,(dem consoles might also boost the pulse dmg, the 20% beam dmg ones) get critD/critH with tachyo/retro/zero consoles on rest of the slots.
Activate Apa, Apo3, TF, bait for GDF?
Or!
Get hit 3 times as sci officer and ask for tactical fleet from team, use thalaron pulse for 500k radiation dmg.
Theoritically it has science edge to it and I will exploit it if it is boosted by partigens! I love partigens so much...
Say the word, it saves the world. CUUCUUMBEER!"-With slight partigen with it." Proud member or DPS-800"-We kill dem mines with our scitter turrets."
