The Boff and console setup of the Scimitar is very similiar to the Fleet Dhelan. It just lacks the ability to turn faster than cruiser outside of console buffs. I don't know about you but I have been enjoying a sci character in a dhelan for some time and will continue to do so. The Ha'nom does not suck btw. In addition to usual science stuff, it gets to mount dual cannons and has battle cloak It would be nice to have more variants, but coming from KDF, lack of variety is sort of expected. Their only sci ship is Gorn and can't even cloak at all. That travesty needs to be fixed first IMO.
...geez this thread is a garbled mess now......although I'm curious why this one was picked to live while the threads got collapsed into this thread......least that what appears to have happened - unless I'm missing something.......
Here's my 2 cents on changes I'd like to see for these ships.
First of all, I think the commander station should change depending on the ships focus. So for example the falchion would have a commander engineering, a Lt tactical, a science tactical + the universal stations.
Then I think that one of the ships should have 2 hangar bays but less weapons. Let's say the falchion got a 4/3 weapon layout and maybe 1 less turn (and maybe other penalties) in exchange for an extra hangar. This would make it more like a normal carrier so that the romulans would at least have one.
Also, maybe the tulwar could get sensor analysis and subsystem targeting in exchange for a fore weapon (or something). Combined with swapping the commander tactical station with the sci station this would give the romulans a C-store science vessel, something they currently lack.
This way the romulans would get a giant escort carrier with lots of pew pew (scimitar), a "normal" carrier similar to the JH dreadnought or the KDF burning doomship (falchion) and a science vessel/carrier, somewhat similar to the federation multi mission exploration ships (tulwar).
Personally I think would be much better than 3 extremely similar ships with slightly different console layouts and universal consoles. I know the odysseys, bortas and MMEs are also very similar to each other, but the federation and KDF have a lot more other ships to choose between, the romulans don't.
Edit: Stealing symetreus69s post (for the formating) and editing it.
Scimitar Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
Falchion Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
- 1 fore weapon. -1 or 2 turnrate. +1 hangar.
Tulwar Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
Sensor Analysis and subsystem targeting. Some sort of penalty to compensate.
Ok time for some Scimitar love amongst all this hate.
Why do I want the Scimitar?
Because Romulan ships are the best in the game. Design, singularity powers, eccenric layouts I love them. The Scimitar is the current top of that tree. It was awesome in the film John Eaves design is sublime. Elegant and powerful. Cryptic has given me and others the chance to fly one of these mighty ships.
Am I concerned that the ship is overpowered or underpowered?
Nope ill fly the ship adapt to its strengths and adapt to its weaknesses like any other ship. The ship is only as good as the player flying it.
Am I concerned over the moral or canon issue of the Thaleron weapon in the hands of a player controlled character?
Nope. I will have great fun trapping some poor player in a tractor then zapping them til they glow. It's only a game a bit of fun its hardly real life is it. And no I dont eat babies or bugger kittens.
Am I concerned over paying money for this ship.
Nope i have saved most of the price via hoarding zen and converting dil. Im happy to stump the rest in real world cash. My money. Besides Cryptic is a business. They need to sell things to survive they cant survive on pixie dust and good will.
Im summing up..
I will buy this ship freely, honestly and will love it. It looks bloody awesome and I think Cryptic have done an amazing job. Thank you guys.
My consience is clear unlike my spelling.
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo...
I'm disappointed with it, because I had hoped it would be a more science based carrier like the Vo'Quv that would have made up for the dismal variety of science ships available.
However it's just yet another tac based cruiser with a hangar.
I won't be buying it unfortunately, I'll just wait for the next one.
One poster did bring up a good point less weapons in the aft does make for a tempting target for an escort. Then again if they use the guide for dreadnoughts it wouldn't really matter. Meaning four single cannons in the front plus one torp, and three aft turrets. Ill have to see how this plays out.
Honestly I stopped making fun of people in it because after seeing it on eSTF I pity those people now.
I normally don't hold back but I felt really sorry for them.
No battlecloak, which the in-game NPC version is built around entirely, 1 hangar bay and the 12 seconds green blast does like zero damage
And don't even get me started on the singularity core...
Then of course there is the ugly design and I don't even know what to call the bridge.
/edit.
ps. and I've seen glaciers move faster
It does have abattle cloak. I do not knowwhat kind of idiots you have seen in the eSTF using the scim, but from my own build (and i am in no way an expert) i have a. turn of 19.6 and can burn down elite spheres solo in aroud 8 seconds each. Maybe the ship just fits my play style but i cant see it ever being bad in pve unless her captain is a geranium

it has a battle cloak it's just called Scimitar cloak, and my turn rate is 17 without cloak, and with it's 40, and as long as ambush is on after i cloak I stay at 27 turnrate...stuff your sorries in a sack :P
Man I was in 3 ESTF infected today and all the Scimitar guys had a HUGE target on them - BOOM BOOM BOOM - I was flying my Fleet T'Varo and Fleet Mogai - one guy blew up 20 times!!
It was a funny at first - then just became very very sad:(:(:(
I had such High hopes - of course you know they say it's the captain and not the ship.
The ship is pretty fun but I don't think it will be that great for PVP so I'm depressed. Console layouts just change what a ship excels at, boff seatings actually change the a ship plays, huge opportunity missed here for Cryptic.

It seems a very good ship, the estfs i attended had on average 3 scimitars in and they were amongst the fastest estfs i have ever seen. The only casualty was myself typing whilst taking fire...... oops
Its not the first time ppl automatically assume a new C-Store ship is the new "I win" ship, a ship is only as good as the Captain that flies her. It is a great ship, with good all around specs, but its still going to take some skill to make her useful. Gonna take a while before I can get my Romulan set for mine.
Hi, my name is: Elim Garak, Former Cardassian Oppressor
LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?

Yeah have not taken any of mine into ESTF - still working on a nice set-up and she is a bit tricky to fly.
Like I said as well - they say it's the captain and not the ship.
I have noticed that the thalaron weapon does almost no damage to the borg - yet makes you a sitting duck for a borg 1 shot death beam that DOES do real damage.

Were you one of the ones bashing me for saying it needed changes before going live? So many did - hard to remember.

Question, did you not read the blog, or did you just rushed to grab it today. It clearly stated that the bof positions were exact on all three ships.
Im sticken with my DD, love my build and will love it better once I get the fleet version soon.
Honestly I stopped making fun of people in it because after seeing it on eSTF I pity those people now.

The ship doesnt suck, its just most people aren't experienced with slow turn ships with lots of firepower. In the hands of a Bortasqu or Jem Dreadnought pilots it will be one of the best STF ships there is. I haven't parsed mine yet but I am sure I can make it do more DPS then my bugship, Kumari, Fleet Defiant, or Fleet Dhelan.

My Cat Fed engineer has the Jem Dread. Its a beast of a ship. All polaron cannons. Wide angle quantums up front. Full XII polaron Jem set. Its a beast. I know how to chuck its backside around to be most effective. The Scimitar sounds similar thats why im really keen on it.
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo...
Right right I remember now. the console/boff layout is all wrong
you can't have a 7 turn ship with only 2 eng - you know how many I saw get poped in ESTF?
personally tac should be eng 3 sci 3 tac 4
Eng should be eng 4 sci 3 tac 3
Sci should be eng 3 sci 4 tac 3
Cmdr tac
Cmdr eng
Cmdr Sci
She does not need 5 tac consoles with a 7 turn and 5 forward guns - that is for sure! -
And 5 sci consoles without a Cmdr sci - that is lame.
2 eng consoles, lets you slot 1 neutronium and 1 other like leech or rep console. haven't got to play mine much yet since am at work now but shouldn't be too much of a problem. My Bort may as well have 2 eng consoles for the way I set it up and it almost never dies in an stf unless I do something stupid like eat or talk on the phone. My tac bort just uses 1 eng console for armor, the other 3 slots are taken up by the assimilated module, zero point console, and tachyo, or sometimes I switch those 3 out for the 3 piece console set, and leech in the sci slot.
Scimitar I probably will just go 1 neut and 1 leech in eng slots, sci slots will sometimes be plasma infused and sometimes the 2 or 3 console set, or sometimes the tachyo and the rep consoles. Might even have to drop the neut on occaison to fit in another console like the valdore console. I am used to going no armor on romulan sometimes and relying on killing stuff to not die but I guess most would be better off in the eng scimitar.

Yeah I am used to manuvering Bortasqu and carriers around using cannons and sometimes DHC, so 7 turn is a pretty big improvement for me lol. I will have no problems at all with DHC on this.

Thalaron Pulse is fun to use, even if it's damage is... underwhelming, 4 DHCs with a torp up front I love as well.
Honestly though, those who had expected our Thalaron Pulse to be on Donatra's level must have a few screws loose.

What is you build? And I am getting the fleet version - but should I bother with the C-store one during the sale?
Why you holding off on the fleet?
Huh? My Scimitar has a Battlecloak... and she can keep her shields up while doing it too
I run mine science heavy, though a Cmdr universal would have been much better than the Lt Cmdr
No I just corrected your assumption that the scimitar was bigger than the D'dederix. I do agree the Scimitar needs some changes.
