The Scimitar is a great ship. Anyone who cant manage to fly one effectively, both in PVE and PVP, must have a lack of understanding of Romulan ship mechanics and boff traits.
Its not OP or P2W, as people have said already, and ias i expected it to be after looking at the stats in the dev blog before it was released. It has several downsides, the main one being i think it must have the highest inertia rating of any ship in the entire game. AS mentioned already though, the captain not the ship is king. There is no doubt it is a very powerful platform in the right hands. As it should be. Having pvped several people in it 1 on 1, of varying skill levels and ship types, the only ship i lost against was a fleet D'Dex. So it is very good at pvp also.
I think its a lot of fun to play, which is what games like this are about, If you are going to QQ about it then:
A) Have a good reason that is viable, not "it doesn't even have a battle cloak", like some moron said, when it clearly does.
Dont just slag it, because you havent got the cash. Be a man about it, and just keep quiet. Nothing is worse than seeing someone having an emo session when its blatantly because they lost at pvp badly, or they dont have the means to purchase something. As 90% of emo rages on STO are about exactly those 2 things.
C) Dont be a sheep and listen to other people spouting off about it cos they heard off someone on zone, who heard off his mate that said his step brother saw it spawn Thaloron born death unicorns in an STF. Go off what you know yourself.
" Experience is a hard mistress, she gives the tests first, and the lessons after... "
so far well im getting my bearings on it I've tried the Thalaron Pulse and im not impressed by it but im still learning to use it or if its worth using at all however i am finding as a cannon cruiser it works well the shield and cannon barrage are doing great for me same cloaking with my shields up a nice plus just that pulse id love to know what people think about it so far
have someone with a scimitar invite everyone to the scimitar bridge
and have everyone bring a party amplifier and someone record a
video or take screen shots of everyone dancing.
Love the Scimitar ... that is I love blowing them up. I lost count of the # of kills. The funny part was when I popped the Scimitar in the middle of a Fed ball, and the Thalaron cloud engulfed his allies and started doing damage.
I laughed uncontrollably as I sped away. Thanks Cryptic for the gift that keeps on giving.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Ok time for some Scimitar love amongst all this hate.
Why do I want the Scimitar?
Because Romulan ships are the best in the game. Design, singularity powers, eccenric layouts I love them. The Scimitar is the current top of that tree. It was awesome in the film John Eaves design is sublime. Elegant and powerful. Cryptic has given me and others the chance to fly one of these mighty ships.
Am I concerned that the ship is overpowered or underpowered?
Nope ill fly the ship adapt to its strengths and adapt to its weaknesses like any other ship. The ship is only as good as the player flying it.
Am I concerned over the moral or canon issue of the Thaleron weapon in the hands of a player controlled character?
Nope. I will have great fun trapping some poor player in a tractor then zapping them til they glow. It's only a game a bit of fun its hardly real life is it. And no I dont eat babies or bugger kittens.
Am I concerned over paying money for this ship.
Nope i have saved most of the price via hoarding zen and converting dil. Im happy to stump the rest in real world cash. My money. Besides Cryptic is a business. They need to sell things to survive they cant survive on pixie dust and good will.
Im summing up..
I will buy this ship freely, honestly and will love it. It looks bloody awesome and I think Cryptic have done an amazing job. Thank you guys.
My consience is clear unlike my spelling.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I AM THE HARBINGER OF HOPE!
I AM THE SWORD OF THE RIGHTOUS!
What I'm curious about, with the new Dreadnought, is why the Engineering and Science versions don't allow for Command-level Engineering and Science bridge officer abilities. Why have three different ships just for consoles if they aren't also going to emphasize the abilities that the three different classes focus on?
No, there is something wrong with the ship ... I taken a 15k warp core breech damage that is unusually high, also shields are just not regenerating.
The Scimitar have base turn rate 7, with the 2 sets its 9 and cloaked its 12 ... this isnt about turn since the ship does turn fine but something is broken on how it checks skills because currently they have no shield regeneration and I dont think damage resistances are working either
Wellllll, i do love my scimitar But my loadout which i ported over directly from my 2700 dps mogai was only giving me an average of 785 on the scimitar. Shields also did not regenerate well at all..
And then theres the matter of the invisible neon sign crying "shoot me" too all the borg in the estf.. getting one shotted at 17 kicks by a gate is one thing,. being one shotted by a sphere at 2.8 clicks is another..
According to STOICs my damage resistance was 42%. Thats pretty high from what i gather. For the loadout? Well, the ship is going to have to go into the shop for reworking.
The ship has some interesting movements during a turn. it slides sideways a bit, and at times even goes backwards.. weird, but perhaps a usable trait.. Turn rate for me is 13 uncloaked using the Mk X omega set. perhaps thats where my dps disappeared too.
so far i have only tested the scimitar cruiserescort and i love it and it is not over powered just right. the shield regeneration seems to be off line though or bugged. i am think about taking off one of the 3 scimitar consoles 3 set bonus is not my style to be a sitting duck.

Because then they would be entirely different ship types. The Tac Vesta doesn't have a Commander Tac, the Science Odyssey doesn't have a Commander Science, the Engi Kumari doesn't have a Commander Engineer, etc.

Odd thing you may want to test before removing a console.. out of twenty times or so of fiing the thaleron canon, I've only been killed once.. My last shot with it a few minutes ago against donatra's ship caused over 28000 points of damage all by itself..
now to figure out why everything else is falling flat..

1 on 1 is not the full story .

Unsure what to think yet about about the Scimi. Poked a lot of fun at it over in another thread. But all of that was in fun and should not be taken seriously at all.
Different from what most people are used to flying. And therein may just be most of the problem some are having with it. The lack of familiarity, coupled with the lack of experience, added to the Hatorade threads here will probably be why it is getting mixed reviews. I definitely think it will be very enjoyable to experiment with one of the most interesting villain ships in all of Star Trek to learn how to use it effectively.
I also must admit when anyone types in 'P2W' or some other such foolishness, my standard response is "You're welcome!" Because without the people who are actually spending money on this game, the people who sneer that phrase like it is some sort of holy mantra would all be playing Farmville on Facebook. That's right. Those of us buying this thing means the servers you're playing on forfree get electricity for one more day. It is my Real World Coin which I earned. So, I get to spend it as I please. The fact you benefit as well is icing on the cake and I take a fiendish joy in reminding you of it whenever you type or speak 'P2W'.
But back on topic. Think I'll buy the set after all the ruckus dies down a bit. Because I really do like the ship.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
After about 10 hours flying her around, something is definitely wrong. The shield console that allows your shields to stay up cloaked, is bugged, it actually makes your shields fail to regenerate properly, and it may also be giving false readings on how much shields you have up on the ship icon. Warp core breaches (as someone else said) are going completely through the shields.
I eventually gutted all the consoles that came with it, and though the turn rate was sluggish, it seemed tougher.
When running beams it really looks strange as it only fires from one side of the ship, its probably by design, but it looks dumb.
I started out with 2 of these(on two different officers), but I quickly went back to my T'Varo on my science officer as it is just more fun.

Totally agree to this post, I got the same impression. I bought the Scimi yesterday and after several hours of testing in stf, pvp, I realized, that the dmg resistances are somehow bugged. I took 12 % hull damage from one sphere shot (while under tac team shields still 90 %) in ISE. Very strange. I also dont like the turnrate. While using 1x RCS and 1x Tachyokinetic my turn rate is at 19. Can fly with this. However, under cloak the turnrate exceeds to 38, which is nearly impossible to control any more. The drift of this ship is also a nightmare and when flying curves, my defense value goes from 86% down to 50%. No other ship does that.
I guess it is similar to the KUMARI bug, when on the first day, the shield regen powers also didnt work.
On the scimi currently the dmg resistances of the hull are shown, but somehow dont exist in the game.
After reading other comments and my own testing I suspect the console is bugged, I didnt notice a huge difference, wasnt dying any more than usual, but I generaly barge in with guns blazing and hope I come out the other side anyway (which this ship generaly seems to do)
Personaly I love this ship, need to put more cannons on the front tho after my first test, never been a huge DHC fan but this ship may sway me.
Will try it without the shield console tonight, see what difference it makes, but on the whole its a good ship, u just need to know how to fight with her.
Oh and on top of it all, she looks fantastic, just like in the film, and god is she huge (yet surprisingly nimble).

However, I am finding that as a cannon cruiser, it works well - the shield and cannon barrage are doing great for me, and the same goes for cloaking with my shields up - it's a nice bonus. It's just that pulse - I'd love to know what people think about it so far.
Added words where they were necessary, corrected cases, and replaced "plus" with "bonus". :P
And... accidentally said "cannon barrage barrage". *corrects it before posting*
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Because then they would be entirely different ship types. The Tac Vesta doesn't have a Commander Tac, the Science Odyssey doesn't have a Commander Science, the Engi Kumari doesn't have a Commander Engineer, etc.
That's a flimsy explanation. The Guardian is a different version of a similar model, and it has a commander science station. Given that there are three very versions of the same ship for the different classes, there's no reason they shouldn't be focused on their abilities to a greater extent by having a commander station for their respective roles, whether or not they're the same ship type, particularly given the lack of science vessels among the Romulan ships (Engineering may be short too, but I haven't looked at it as closely).
i don't know if its useless or not but i am not impressed with it so far and i got too hyped up about it please anyone who has good experience with the Thalaron Pulse let me know so far i just cloak , go point blank and let it rip i think it would of been nice to see a bvit of rangeo n it but reading the description about it i cant expect that
The single most horrible thing about this ship is the inertia is set to 20. This ship by design needs an inertia of 30, there is just no way around that and they gimped this ship with that 20 inertia. I know guys are gonna say "oh but bortasqu and ody have 20 inertia" yes, but these are non canon ships, and have no canon guidelines to follow.
This ship with it's current 20 inertia is just unnecessarily gimped, and this needs to be fixed by bumping it to 30 inertia where it should be.
I've been using the Tulwar Scimitar with my Science Captain and so far it's not so bad.
I'm still pretty miffed that the Science and Engineering versions of the Scimitar still have Commander Tactical Bridge Officer Stations and not Science and Engineering, Gravity Well 3 is a must on the Tulwar.
The other issues that I have is that the Tulwar which is supposed to be Science focused is that it does not have Sensor Analyst or Subsystem Targeting nor does it get a boost to its base shields.
I hope that Cryptic gives all the Scimitars another pass to better differentiate the Tactical, Science and Engineering versions from one another.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the turn rate that I was able to get with the Scimitar.
Using the 3 piece Scimitar console set and just one Rare Mk XII RCS console my Scimitar was turning just has well if not better than my Ha'Nom.
Lining up DHC's on my Scimitar is a breeze.
Does anyone know if the Thalaron Blast is considered Exotic damage or not?
I've been trying to boost the damage output of the Thalaron Blast but so far the best that I've been able to get is about 50K out of it.
If the Thalaron Blast is considered Exotic Damage then a neat little trick to use with it would be to slot the Romulan Deflector Doff that boost all of your Exotic Damage by 5% for I think 15 seconds upon activation of a singularity effect like Tykens Rift or Gravity well.
You could fire off your GW OR TR and go right into your Thalaron Blast and get that extra 5% damage out of the blast.
Currently Tactical Team seems to be bugged with the Scimitar but I'm hoping that when it's fixed we'll be able hit Tactical Team just before we charge up our Thalaron Blast for at least some protection.
All in all I like the Scimitar but it feels like I'm testing prototypes and not the final versions and I hope that this is the case.
i don't know if its useless or not but i am not impressed with it so far and i got too hyped up about it please anyone who has good experience with the Thalaron Pulse let me know so far i just cloak , go point blank and let it rip i think it would of been nice to see a bvit of rangeo n it but reading the description about it i cant expect that
I've found it's useful against slower, heavier targets, especially with a tractor beam.
Well, she IS huge.. I flew over a tiny lil ship last night that i didnt recognize at first because it looked so small.. It was a Vo'Quv.. Made me feel real stupid.. Then later a Galaxy climbed up under my wing. it was so cute. like mammy nazgul with her baby chick.. I waggled my wings and patted it on the head with them
Seriously though, the ships inertia problem is going to take a lot of getting used too.. The Bort and Vo'Quv both also have very high inertia values and they both drift as well, but not to the extent this big girl does.. I was trying to get away from a cube that had just exploded last night, and my wing got caught somehow on a jagged edge while i was turning and the ship just kept on turning right on around till with full forward impulse on i was flying backwards for a bit. It was... amusing.
Around 2AM this morning, I added an RCS to it, removing one of the other universal modules that currently fill all my slots, and i added a fifth polaron dhc. Those things aint cheap are they?? anyway. i ran the entire config through a couple runs with stoics running in the background. I didnt need stoics though to tell me the ship doesnt like five canons in front. One prob got through during khitomer which for me is disgraceful as i pride myself on being able to deal with probes quite well. I did an in combat swap and put the quantum torpedo back in and the ship was much happier. I was able to start taking probes down within a couple KM instead of using nearly the entire length between the gate and the jump gate they leave through.. Generators were dropping within seconds. Of course I was with some very good players both times.
The RCS put me in a turn rate that was comfortable. it wasnt fast but it was sufficient to do the job and keep me from pulling out my hair while shooting probes..
The drift was another issue.. I was able to kick the birds TRIBBLE around and rake an entire side of a cube with canons, while facing it directly head on.. That might be good for FPS's and such, but i thought it was a bit extreme in space.
and back to STOICs. Everything outside of the three new consoles on that ship came off my 2800 DPS mogai. The mogai was a glass canon with a 43K hull. The same wepons consoles and loadout on the scimitar gave me a 52K hull.. not too surprising there.. Shields are over 8K without the secondary shields being raised.. My low end dps average was 458 dps. My high end average was 762 dps. My combat style hasnt changed, so something else must be going on The only difference between the two loadouts is the ship. I've looked at the graphs.I've looked at the pie charts and tactical reports and compared them with the teams over all performance and i just dont get it.. I now have the same speed and the same turn rate as the mogai and its the mogais weapons and consoles and my dps has dropped by over 2000 during the same ESTFs doing the same job i always do. Its got me scratching my head.. I dont want to say theres anything wrong with the ship, but something is kerfuggling everything in a nasty way.
