The D'Deridex is the iconic Romulan ship, more so then any other due to it having the most screen time of all, and TNG being where Romulans were really introuced to us more so then in TOS. Many of us are making Romulans specifically for this ship, and unfortunatley what I hear about its stats are very disturbing.
Somone posting the stats from tribble shows it has the same boff layout as the Gal-R
Lt tac, Cmdr Eng, Lt Cmdr Eng, Ensign Eng, Lt Sci. Also the ship is said on the blog to be less manuverable then the Galaxy. If this is true it will make the ship useless, and this is a very bad start for the Romulan faction and you will have a lot of angry Romulan fans:mad:
I understand this was likely the statss for a 9 console Z-store retrofit of the D'Deridex, and there would be a Fleet version also. However even if a Fleet version does have a more tac heavy boff layout, they can at least make sure not to stick the retrofit version with a useless 3rd engineering ensign, and make sure the turn isn't worse then a Galaxy.
What was done to the Galaxy was a mistake that disapointed many TNG fans, please don't also do this to the D'Deridex too, or I doubt I will spend anything on any other Romulan stuff either because I won't make a Romulan if the D'Deridex is left with bad boff layout/turn.
I honestly don't know what people are expecting here. The D'Deridex has always been a huge whale, even more than the Galaxy. Expecting anything higher than the turnrate of a carrier or dreadnought is a silly fantasy.
I can live with turn that bad if they give the ship the firepower and universal boff slots a Bortasqu gets so you can kill targets before they have a chance to manuver out of the way. If they insist on giving it a bad turn but also with horrible boff layout the Galaxy gets (only lt Tac and has useless 3rd engineering slot) then the ship will be a complet insult.
I am much more concerned with the horrible boff layout then the turn, however both of them combined would put the nail in the coffin of this ship.
Like the rest of us REAL Romulans (you know those of us loyal to the Romulan Republic) you should be looking at flying the Mogai retrofit or one of the other BoP type ships at T5. Not that hulking whale of a target. It's old. It's dated. It's junk from the RSE's navy that is barely space worthy in the glory of the new Republic. While we REAL Romulans spent our time farming and tagging Epohhs to build a new homeworld for the shattered remnants of our once glorious empire, we learned a lesson. That lesson is Turn Rates of 15 or higher, Battle Cloak or Regular Cloak, and DHCs mixed with high yield torps = success in space.
Give up on the D'Deridex. It's slated to be the Ticklebeam Cloakboat that the REAL Romulans make fun of as we pew pew pew right past it in our Mogais.
So someone enthusiastic as you seem to be about playing Romulans would just accept the D'Deridex being given crappy stats? Even if you don't want to play it don't you realize that this ship is essential to the faction to get a lot of people to be willing to play it.
The D'Deridex is the iconic Romulan ship as I explained earlier, because TNG and later DS9 really introduced us to Romulans and the D'Deridex was always the main ship. Giving up on it is not an option. The T5 BOP is just a retrofit of a t1 ship that is based on the TOS design, if they can do that, that also means the D'Deridex is also given updated technology, so its no more obsolete then that T5 BOP you want me to fly. The Mogai is okay, but not really as iconic as it was just in 1 movie. I'll probably use all of them but the D'Deridex will be my main ship as long as they don't mess the stats up.
the D'Deridex might be an old romulan battle ship but she is strong and sturdy gal that does not deserve to be basically called a garbage scrap.
i do hope that the D'Deridex will have a more useful then the galaxy r because the 3rd enginenering ensign could be more use ful as a tac or science or even u universal doff slot.
So someone enthusiastic as you seem to be about playing Romulans would just accept the D'Deridex being given crappy stats?
I'm not sure what you expected out of it. It was shown to be slower than the Galaxy in the shows. And bigger. It was always going to have a turn rate that made it prohibitive to play in this game. This game is slanted towards speed, agility and cannon based firepower. Since the D'Deridex won't be a carrier, it was always going to be too slow to compete in this game.
I've been prepared to fly it at the lower tier to level in and then move on to the proper STO ship at end-game, which was always going to be one of the "escort" type ships the Republic got. I just guessed it'd be the Mogai because of how pesky they were back when I was a fed fighting them in missions.
I get that there's a lot of fans of the D'Deridex out there. It's a pretty ship and I remember it well from TNG.
But you had to realize this was coming.
1- The Devs hate hate HATE on the Galaxy.
2- The Devs prefer so many things from DS9, be it the Defiant, the Excelsior, or just stories involving the Dominion.
3- The D'Deridex got pigeonholed by the shows as being bigger and slower than the Galaxy, a ship the devs in this game made the slowest ship this side of the Vo'Quv.
I'll always fondly remember how cool it was in Neutral Zone when that warbird decloaked in front of the Enterprise-D.
But I have common sense. The agility based warbirds were always slated to be the better choice in STO end-game.
Even if you don't want to play it don't you realize that this ship is essential to the faction to get a lot of people to be willing to play it.
I actually think a TOS BoP or a Mogai with a Battlecloak playable at T5 will be more than enough to keep people playing the heck out of the Romulans.
Giving up on it is not an option.
As long as beam arrays suck and RCS consoles benefit ships that turn great already, you're stuck. There just isn't much you can do with a ship that turns so slowly in STO. Unless it's a carrier, and even then, it takes some doing.
You have to understand this has nothing to do with the ship itself. And everything to do with the game and how it plays. Something with a 5 or 5.5 turn rate just isn't equipped to succeed in this game.
there i actually no reason why the D'Deridex has to be any slower turning then the federation galaxy class because yes the D'Deridex i twice the hight of the galaxy class. while the D'Deridex is about the same total weight at the galaxy class because of the massively large open sections between the upper and lower wing and the romulan warp/quantam necells.

.
The D"Deridex was also supposed to have more firepower then the Galaxy, which is why Picard was always hesitant to fight one solo, and prefered to talk, or have allies like Klingon Vorcha's show up to help. I don't think the Enterprise itself ever managed to solo a D'Deridex.
So while I would like a little better turn, that is not the main fault I see in it, I am concerned with the boff layout mostly. I know this game is slanted towards cannons, I use DHC on everything that can mount them, even a Bortasqu, I am experienced enough to make slow turn ships work with DHC, but I can't do it if it has the horrible boff layout of a Galaxy. If they are going to make the ship have bad turn, it better get 5 tac consoles and Lt Cmdr tac at least like a bort does.
Thats not enough. It needs 5 tac consoles, or 4 tac consoles and sensor analysis, and a super weapon console that can deal massive damage like the autocannon, and some type of universal boff station. The only thing that makes a ship with turn as bad as the Bortas worth flying is those features, and even then, most players still can't put up with the turn rate.
People need to calm the eff down. What's on Tribble right now is very unlikely to be the final stage of the ships. You're all in danger of working yourselves into another foaming-at-the-mouth frenzy about the Romulan faction being shortchanged, just like you did with the announcement.
Just sit down and watch, stop speculating yourselves into disappointment.

The concept of a tertiary ensign engineering slot is concerning, but if one of those slots becomes a universal... I'm cool.

2 is a bug, the dev stated it would be 5.5 like a Bortasqu in a thread in the tribble section.
5.5 is bad enough but it doesn't seem like they will make it hit as hard as a Bortasqu either.

We are just raising our concerns now so the ship as it currently is doesn't make it off of tribble without some major changes.
How could you justify better loadout or even turn on D'D when G-R is so crappy ? At least Cryptic is consistent in creating crappy stats for iconic ships. These ships are mirrors more or less, but considering how fleet negh'var is so huge improvmenet over fleet galaxy-r, do not despair, the failaxy will still remain the crappiest ship in game.
Any buff on D'D should be reflected or G-R, otherwise is a slap to the face to everyone who bought one.

Sorry I feel for you but one mistake doesn't justify another. Maybe you will also have more justification for demanding the Galaxy be fixed too if the D'Deridex isn't made crappy.

Exactly. D'D must be released with as much as crappier setup as possible, so the cry of fanboys crashes the forums. After that, there will be no choice except to buff it, and when it happens, Galaxy must be improved as well, in order to be consistent with the IP.
Help me Obi Wan D'Deridex you're my only hope...

That is number 1 on my list of issues I have with this ship right now anyway.
Just sit down and watch, stop speculating yourselves into disappointment.
With a turn rate of 2 I think every one has their jaw is sitting on the floor right now. Kinda hard to see how that's going to work.
