While I am very happy to hear the completion of the game is near I am muffed because I set my alarm to wake up and see what that timer presented us... I did not expect the timer to expire and give way to a 60 day wait, and I bet it's w ait until it hits tribble not holo so we can expect up to a 4 month wait. I have not had any coffee. I should never be out of bed at this time, ever.
I wonder if there's gonna be a Scimitar. Probably later on as the new faction develops.
I would imagine that the Scimitar would be a high level ship. Captain or Admiral/General/whatever the Romulan equivalent is. Might be part of the as yet unannounced C-store offering, but I can't see it being left out. Cryptic seems determined to empty people's Zen wallets with this expansion. :P
first of all: since when is KDF waiting for those first lvls? so, i'm not impressed with them realeasing it now, when it should have been released a long time ago. They don't really care about the KDF side till now. We will see what've they done.
second: new romulan faction. very cool! nice effort in keeping the game alive.
third: how many character slots will there be as a basis? without a Zen-Buy-Character-Slot i mean.
we will see how it works out...
Based on past precedent and Cryptic saying they want the game to available to play for free (and brandon confirming that the expansion is free on Page 3). I would guess F2Pers would get 3 slots. One Fed, One Klingon, One Romulan. Gold/Lifers would get relative equivalent to what they have now based on that.
Looks fairly interesting, but when will I get to play as a Tholian!
Given that you would have to effectively redo the Character Creator to account for a non-human based lifeform. I would say Tholians are not coming any time soon. Then again, I also said Playable Romulans would probably not be in the May update. So take everything I said with a grain of salt. :P
The news are up...
For cryptic to present to us the new extreme make-over, they had to retro-actively reset all characters, and their progression to zero. Everyone is to start in the Academy at level 0, and work their way back up. All equipment and items are rebalanced to such a degree, that all inventory has been deleted. permanently.
I was really hoping for the Romulans, but 1-50 Klingons? Brilliant!
I had a feeling something great might happen in May... good that I started reading the Rihannsu - now I will be able to get into the Romulan character much easier .
kk just to get this straight, the romulan republic is the thing the half breed human Sela has ended by declaring herself empress.
This has nothing to do with D'tan and Obisek and other traitors (i hope) its time to kill the fake empress and declare to the galaxy that we are back.
(So many story possibilities about he Supernova, and maybe some background info about the whys and how........................wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee)
Yeah, we don't have all the details but it seems that Sela will be in charge of the playable version of the Romulan Republic.... and out to kill off the Tal'Shiar once and for all. It remains to be seen what she thinks of D'Tan and Obisek's alliance, but we'll see....
Pretty much to all the people saying things like 'not impressed' and 'oh, it's not enough' or 'they added the wrong thing'....
Go play and bug the devs in another game. This expansion, if it contains all the things it says it will is what pretty much most of the forum complaints have been about. We get Romulans, Klingons get 'finished', new traits, retraiting and well, look just a lot. If you're not happy with it, then go back to real life. It looks awesome, it looks like a lot of hard work has gone into it and most of the non-constructive criticism is borderline trolling. Wait until it comes out before you start bashing it. At least then you'll actually know what the **** you're talking about...
Thank you very much for what looks like it will be an awesome expansion.
Oh... and bring back handsome phaser guy.
Yeah. Wait...not Phaser guy. Put the vulcan and the romulan ladies in the same picture... oh derp. With Phaser guy! That should make everyone happy.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
Honestly, even in the KDF and Romulans will have some fed copied missions to do..... it is honestly better then nothing.
I can't understand how the KDF playerbase seems divided on this. Why are they not happy to get new content?
Just because the other factions get it too, that does not mean anything is taken from them.
I for one like things so far.
There seem to be artwork and ships about an evil looking robotish faction with tentacles.
Looks like borg-necron-tentacles and very very sith like evil. A properly evil and scary looking foe.
Well, if there is unhappiness in the KDF faction its because other then a tutorial, and a Enlarged neg'var we don't KNOW what else the KDF is getting. And we are concerned!
Dev blogs with info on the KDF content to be expected will go a very very long way to not only killing the complaints before they get up to much steam, but also give the future RSE players an idea of what THEY have to look forward to.
Humm.. I wonder what the 1000 day vet reward Romulan ship is going to be? Also, I'd be surprised if there is not a version of a liberated borg romulan or reman for players. Hirogen should be there eventually for the Rommy faction though.. considering the amount of work that would be required I can understand them holding off on that for now..
too bad you cant then choose to either be a romulan star empire character or ROMULAN star republic type. YEA two factions thats just too much work ....
but then if your going to open that up....
WHY not....allow you to if you get the dil or zen ot buy a planet and create a race and then like a fleet you have those type a missions....then you open the game up for endless possibilities and ways it can generate revenue and even make a true federation this way as your one world and race will get a special ability you can choose by default or as they do often BUY with zen/dil. THEN after you made the race and bought your planet you can then for refined dill have friends get that race template....and join your planets race.
THIS of course takes a lot a 3d modleers to help toy with bits n pieces of ships and designs but in the way this game is laid out its not impossible.
and let me tell ya i've got a lot a free time on my hands....haha...and if i spent say a month on refining this idea i bet it could work for cryptic and make the fanbase ( we the people ) very happy ...and it gives those sim city like builders one more aspect to a game ...think new Romulus how one might go there....with all those lil sub missions to help them....
good to see denise getting more involved shes done a lot of trek for free too....Cheers to you!

I hope you are right. I hate Obisek and D'tan!

purely a guess here, but i'm going with subcommander myself at the level 50 rank, since in the revamped UI screen shown at the feature site the level 1 romulan starts as sublieutenant, and they are the weakest of the romulan enemies you face (excluding uhlans, which will probably be the romulan equivalent to security/bekk), and subcommanders are the strongest

Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

any information if the expansion will be an update (like a patch) or a seperate download? i'd guess a really big update, but im no pro, thats why i ask.
its because i play through wine and im a mac user. i wouldnt know how to integrate the expansion into the existing wine wrapper...
thanks for info if anybody knows smth.

so let me get this straight... instead of fixing the styuff that has bugs in it in the game(some of which has been there for an extremely long time) you ppl in your wisdom decided to make a new faction... yeah that makes perfect sense NOT!
Yes, it does make perfect sense.
* PerfectWorld Entertainment (Cryptic) is a business.
* Bug fixes are not going to drive customer acquisition.
* New content, new excitement (via expanded factions) will.
* The timing of this announcement is spot-on, given the forthcoming movie, "Star Trek Into Darkness" in May 2013.
* The timing is also spot-on, given the entry of "Star Trek: The Game" (Xbox, PS, PC platforms) in April 2013. That game isn't competition in the truest sense, but anything that takes a player away from another game... that's competition. (Don't nitpick this, folks. Unless you play STO 100% of the time, any game is competition.) STO continues to provide reasons to revisit and play.
* C-Store = $$ = continued growth for the game, better chance of survival for the game. (And Cryptic workers want to be employed, y'know what I mean? )
I really hope PWE addresses in-game bugs, too. But the priority isn't bugs.
Now, if bugs hamper the game and players leave... different story.

Most probably you will be able to download it as normal update, this is how it works in 99% of mmos.
[SIGPIC]Join Date: August 2009[/SIGPIC] I live in an alternate universe, where j.j. abrams and cryptic never existed,
where R.S.E. is what it always should be.
I just hope, that they resolve the Klingon/Federation war AND close at least some of the "they want to assimilate/rule/kill us all" threads we have now. Because if not yet another "super threat" will make little sense.
purely a guess here, but i'm going with subcommander myself at the level 50 rank, since in the revamped UI screen shown at the feature site the level 1 romulan starts as sublieutenant, and they are the weakest of the romulan enemies you face (excluding uhlans, which will probably be the romulan equivalent to security/bekk), and subcommanders are the strongest
Commanders and Generals are stronger than the SubCommanders. Commander Ruul or Hakeev ring a bell? They were stronger than the SubCommanders.
I would say that the level 50 rank would be General.
It's free! More details about C-Store offerings will be revealed as we get closer to launch
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

What more is there to say? I mean, considering the fact that (as far as I've heard) most regular (as in, somewhere around this size) expansions cost 40$ (and EA's 'mini-expansion' for TOR costs 19$ unless you subscribe, in which case it's 9$ plus your usual subscription fee), I would have expected a big price for this too.
Way to bring a player back into the game - but I'll definitely have to get another character slot.
Edit: Unless, of course, it comes with an extra Romulan-only character slot. I wouldn't object to that, though I have to admit it's a bit funny that 1/3 of the character slot I got when I used my game code is being used for a Romulan already
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Maybe one day we can buy the bugfixes in the C-Store? Pretty please?
I'm just joking, looking forward to the Romulans and maybe a possible Featured Episode before. And there's also First Contact Day in April! Lot's of stuff to come!

I'm going to applaud PWE for (finally) providing full faction support for Romulans and KDF.
But I think PWE needs to consider some sort of marketing wedge campaign to highlight the faction changes to the KDF.
Sending folks to a STO Romulan-themed website without anything for the KDF -- that's an issue. If there was a marketing push to a KDF site like the Romulan one, I think you'd get a lot of props within the STO community!
(Not to forget the Klingons are getting screentime in the forthcoming "Star Trek Into Darkness" movie...)
