PW to STO ?

hawtbajoranhawtbajoran Member Posts: 6 Arc User
Is there anythimg from PW you think they could use to improve Sto ?

for example...

Mounts: Picard enjoyed riding a horse, why not add a large open forest planet and let us explore .. for the klingots... maybe.. a form of Horse/Lion/Crocadile hybrid.

Gameplay: maybe add a avian species ?

could be fun if they restricted it to X planet... like the swimwear for Risa Idea.

as for anything from Perfect world to STO... uhmm...

Underwater/swimming... If cryptic can make a underwater content.. and put hazards into said scenerio (Sharks/Mines etc) I'll most likely have flashbacks to my time in Half life as a child... eeer... bad times

Don't go in the water, don't go in the water, sharks gonna eat me... *cry* mummy!!! the shark wont go away!!!!

First those kind of changes would come from the developers at Cryptic not Perfect World. I am not sure what functionality PWE holds other than being a host to STO. I know a lot of people here might feel that PWE is hoarding some power over Cryptic, but I doubt that is the case.

I think Picard rode a horse on the holodeck? However Picard is not in this game to my knowledge. But I am sure others would enjoy mounts as well. Again another problem is not just 3D models would need to be created and added but the animations and how they interact with the players model. Then all that would need to be shoved into the game along with how much you are going to pay for them. Let's face it, those won't be free.

The people at Cryptic are having a hard time just making a simple editor for us to create extra missions. So I would not expect to see such a major change as what you are suggesting in the next year or two.

Wendy Black put it perfectly. PWE=/= Cryptic. PWE only fronts the money and the severs for the game. Cryptic actually makes the game and designs the elements within it.

As for what element should be added to the game, I don't think a ground mount would be needed. If they do, maybe a Featured Episode mission with the Argos like vehicle, but not much more then that. There is no reason for a starship to house a pen to hold horses, just for the chance that this planet has nice rolling field to ride in.

    1) What are the odds of that happening in the infinite universe? That this planet and this location has just the right environment for horse riding and a reason to go there? Some planets are deserty, or icey, or toxic, or gaseous. or some are completely inhospitable and the labs are buried underground. Where would Horses be helpful on these worlds?

    2) Why bother with housing creatures on a starship when you have shuttlecraft, Argos ground vehicles, and BLOODY INSTANT TRANSPORTERS to get you around on a planets surface? Why have a stable and feed for 1000 KG animals that.. MAY BE cool to ride on this next away mission? Unless you replicate a full bodies horse everytime you want one? Or use a holo-horse. In which case, I wan t bring a holographic Gatling gun to the next Defera invasion :D

    3) Riding a horse is a skill, just like riding a bike or driving a car. It use to be that everyone had to learn to ride a horse to get around, but then the automobile came around, and it became a past time. Same thing happened in Star Trek with the Shuttle craft and starships. Automobile driving became a leisure activity (As seen in the TOS episode "A Piece of the Action" where Kirk had trouble with a clutch and gear selection in a car :D ) So even then, it is not like your average captain will know how to ride a horse.

And what about the other races in the Federation? My toon is a Trill. Does Trill Prime have horses or a Horse-like creature on it? Maybe, but what about Andoria? It's covered in ice and the Andorians live in underground cities. How about the Vulcans, in a vast desert planet? Would they have seen horses? Would they know how to ride them off-hand? Only if they picked it up as a HOBBY or a LEISURE activity would they even know the basic concepts of riding a horse.

It would be along the same thread of thought as you needing to go to school, so you go out and ride a horse. Unless you are in the country, and have done it in your free time, this is not a viable option. Heck, in real life, I am a human and i have never been closer than 5 meters to a horse. I live in the city. Taking a bus is more of an option for me the riding a horse.

I wouldn't mind seeing spacesuit combat ala First Contact. But other then that, just more of the current feature that we currently have, More missions, More gear sets, More KDF, More Crafting... ect

I wouldnt mind if they implemented some sort of site to site teleport between the various starbases (based on mr scott's postulation of transwarp beaming). This functionality would cost EC (more EC the further the transfer) as it would be very energy intensive. This could also be offered as an option to teleport directly into the new fleet starbases that are coming. I know there is a transwarp gate that should allow members to transwarp directly to their area (once built) but this would be a nice quick way to get from a to b and would provide another EC coin sink for the game.

Faction reputation: give me the ability to grind rep with a faction - cardassians, defari, vulcans, etc and offer species specific rewards that way Instead of lock boxes. For example, maybe the cardassian government recognizes my aid to their people and reward me with a galor class starship, instead of me finding said starship in a lockbox.

Mounts are fine I guess, if we had a place to ride them.

In-game housing. Let me live where I want to live. It's a big galaxy.

Hey, it;s canon. They had them in Generations. :)

Buy yes, horses are really not a high priority with me.

And don;t we have an entire subforum on suggestions? Do we really need a general thread just to repeat everything already suggested?

I think they should include horses, dog and cat pets, turtle terraniums, and hawk minigames on Earth.

    All Federation only.

Because Cryptic needs to keep kicking the red bodies until people give up on KDF.

    GIVE UP.

Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?

Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?

Something like this would be a good addition to the game. Not that I figure we'd get free ships out of it, but maybe set pieces or costume items.

Oh, and back to the OP...

No mounts !!! Even ground vehicles are a stretch.

I realize that Star Trek has had its fair share of anachronistic storylines and holodeck fantasies. I agree that it would be fantastically awesome if STO could pull that off.

But the assets and tech that would be needed for a really immersive experience just isn't there.

Maybe eventually we will get bits and pieces of this in future episodes. A Dixon Hill set. Gangster outfits. Roman togas and ancient Greek buildings. Victorian London and Professor Moriarty. All manner of time travel scenarios.

But I'm not holding my breath, and STO needs a lot of work in 2409 before they start thinking about anachronistic settings.

Picard's ridiculous dune buggy from Nemesis is the only proper mount/ground vehicle that I can remember. Not including random cars and stuff when they appeared, obviously. Otherwise we might end up with Tom Paris and Tuvok's stolen Dodge Ram for 1500 Cryptic Points. Zen. Whatever.

Sets and costumes should definitely be the focus as far as non-essential, non-mission content updates are concerned, since a lot of that stuff would help flesh-out the Foundry.
    Relax.

How about a little bit of new tech for tails?

In Perfect World International one of the races is called a werefox. Think Asian girl with fox ears and a tail. Well when they sit down their tail wraps around them instead of sticking straight out and clipping into everything.

That would be great for Caitians, and in Champions Online. No more tails clipping through chairs!

    Oh, and housing.

We already have Faction reputation, it;s called the Diplomatic doff system. You grind with that. Also, we do not deal with factions in Star Trek. We deal with NATION STATES. Remember, YOU are a Military Captain sent out to do your job, one of which is to represent the Federation and her interest in diplomatic situations. But no captain can open up a complex trade agreement with a major Nation State on his/her own whim. There has to be orders.

Also, there is a licensing issue with the Galor, and the Jem'Hadar ships that means they MUST be severely limited to the player base. it was lockbox roulette or nothing.

Um... you are a starship captain... you live on your ship. And implementing this will just make another social zone that would be just as useful as the bridges were before the doff contacts were added.

Yes, I live on my ship. But there's nothing to do there. Give me a secondary place of residence on Vulcan or earth. Something I can improve, landscape, decorate through game items I have earned elsewhere.

I think as an admiral, I have earned the right to provide aid to cardassia and if they want to give me a cardassian shuttle, I'll take it.

There's nothing detrimental that can come from adding faction reputation to the game. Vulcan, Andorian, Cardassian, Defari, Klingon Front (pvp), Section 31, Memory Alpha, Starfleet Medical, Starfleet Engineering, etc, etc

Each faction would offer species-specific or faction-specific rewards as you level through that faction.

Yes, it wouldn't have to be ships. Shuttles perhaps for the highest level of the faction. But also crafting items, costume pieces, mini game access, weapons, kits, unique food for tribbles or yourself, and decorations for your in-game loving space just to name a few.

I'm not in a hurry or anything. Maybe something they can take up the next time they introduce a race that has a tail. Though to tell the truth, I can't think of any other races with tails that they might put in the game.
