An "escort carrier" might inf act be something a bit different than a battle carrier, so I would say let's wait and see.
But in the meantime, why not propose some cool Kar'Fi builds?
*Shrug*
Tac team 1, High Yield 2, Rapid Fire 2
Tac team 1, Rapid Fire 1
EptS 1, RSP 1
Science Team 1, HE 2, TSS 3, Viral Matrix 3 or Gravity Well 3 or Feedback Pulse 3 or Tractor Repulsors 3 or Photonic Shockwave 3 or Scramble Sensors 3
Tractor Beam 1
The build is ment to be played more like an Escort then a science ship. Typically it's best to run 3 peice Borg + KHG shield to give you 2 extra heals and a good defensive tactic in the KHG shield. But this can be varied based on play style. I found this build to be a fun one to fly around with in a team, and could scare people into not wanting to be anywhere NEAR my front arc since it would act like an Escort/BoP in the process. This build might be very viable for a Tactical officer or Engineer. Science officer can also use it as well since it gives you a Carrier capability, Escort like DPS, and a better turn rate then the Vor'quv. Even with the RCS how ever the turn rate is Cruiser based and takes some getting used to.
Pet Reasons are the Advanced Fer'jai Frigate launches Chronton Torps with HY 2, and it has Tric Torps and Mines for more damage out put. The Marauder shuttle is to provide with a constant Boarding Party Effect that can throw people off their games and disable them even better then Viral matrix at times. If you use it witih Viral 3 it could prove a nasty build in a 1v1 Situation if that is your goal. Other wise in a team make up it can provide with even more disabling properities. Also, you don't need to purchase the Reinforced marauder shuttles since they do nothing for it's Boarding Party effect and only provide it with hull resists and nothing more. They will still die just as fast in a team environment as their normal versions.
the karfi is basically a cruiser with to many tactical and science stations, a tier 5 akira escort will be nothing like that. i'd be shocked if it doesn't have these stations
well my worse fears were fully realized. and its even worse then i predicted with 6k more hull, a full 9 consoles AND a torp spread 4 console. all the befuddling of the cat box without sacrificing any weapons or station powers, unmatched escort survivability, and all the escort firepower you could ever want all in 1 package.

And zipped up into a nice "TRIBBLE PvP" parcel compliments of Cryptic. Please Cryptic, can we have less spam.

The good news is that the hull strength was a tpyo.
BO powers:
Tactical Team 1, Delta 1, Torpedo Spread 3, Omega 3
Tactical Team 1, Torpedo Spread 2
Tactical team 1 (Since nothing else is useful there or a HY 1 for LAWLS)
EpTS 1, RSP 1, Eject Warp Plasma 1
Hazard Emitters 1, Transfer Shields 2
Engineer Consoles: 1x RCS, 1x Torpedo PDS Console, 1x Borg Console
Sci Console: 2x Particle Generator
Tac Console: 2x Plasma Torp Buff, 2x Plasma Energy Weapon buff (Till they fix it to not work with Eject Warp Plasma)
Maco Shield, Borg Engines, Borg Deflector
Pet Hanger: Advanced Danube or Advanced Peregrine Fighters or Advanced Delta Flyer
When I can afford this interesting new Federation ship.. I'll probobly do this with it:
now thats just mean don't forget about transphasics dealing 50% bleed here real soon, im in the process of building transphasic boats kinda like that as i speak
if you can get your that pokey ship in a proper postion to launch those torps on an escort thats flying circles around you, it might be a viable option.
lets do this tell me what engine your using what power settings you have your engines at and your speed at full throttle and i will see if its a major difference or not
Of course, you have to build a very tanky ship for that. My point is that the general lack of hull heals in conventionally PVP-optimized escorts will make it an option for that even now.
Most PvP optimized Escorts have at least one PvP optimized supporter with them who actually tends to share hull heals. Oh wait... that of course doesn't work 1v1.
Captain Faeron - USS Mistral Sea - Ambassador class support cruiser
Not only is the speed almost a full 10 points a sec slower, more damning still is the 20 Inertia score which means any direction changes you need to make, (and you will make quite a few of them if you are honestly trying to use torpedoes, or a DBB) need to not only be planned in advance, but that they will take a very long time to happen.
Since your failship still doesn't have a single proper CC ability on it (infact you took some off!) you can't even hold an opponent half long enough to line up a proper shot.
Seriously, 6.9... compared to 50, and 33. the Escort turns Five Times Faster, and has more than Double your ships Inertia score.
The ships are not even remotely comparable in terms of agility.
Also your theory about torp bleedthrough being significant?
In what universe? Seriously. I want to know. Because I've used torpedoes for Two years Now, and frankly if there's even one tiny lil sliver in the way of quantum torpedoes which have the best bleedthrough in the game in addition to best raw damage, the shot is wasted. And that's assuming your target has no SDR to make a further mockery of your torp.
You see, like normal bleedthrough damage, torp Bleedthrough is calculated after Shield Damage Resistance, soaks up damage. In addition to this drawback of hitting shields with a torp, Shields grant a 90 percent resistance to torpedo hits. Which means whatever pittance is left over, is what does the bleedthrough. Oh, and if they have Maco/Resilient shields? Whack another 50 percent off the top after this.
My escorts Natural Repair Rate can keep up with torp barrages through my shields.
Let alone any Borg Procs.
or god forbid I'm not playing with a bunch of morons flying failboats that can't throw out heals to friendly ships for that matter.
Also I want to test something on your sorry ship. Since your ship has jack and TRIBBLE for Regen I think it would be fun.
But keep in mind that, in order to keep the BoP in your rear 90? arc, all you need to do is move away from it and turn here and there. Not even taking into account that most escort captains will think that being behind the bigger ship is a good thing, you will find that staying in front or on the side of any given ship is a hard task, as you have to react quickly to any move change of the other ship.
thats really not hard....on my escourt ill just go 1/4 throttle and just shift my ship as your carrier takes an hour to turn. and the little damage that you actually do with your beams will not even make me use tss2. all ill need is space bar for epts and to balance them out while using tt2 and save my alpha after i tore your sheilds out. hell i might actually let you take me to 34 hp get my sheilds back online hit all my buffs use tss2 for extra resist and nail you. not hard since your talking about torps on the back of your ship a dbb in the front so ill stay in an arch that torps and a dbb cant hit. if you do use a target engines attack i do have red matter as well, ill hit a wep power cap of 150 that will not drain away. so at around 30 hp full sheilds tt2 that might still be good if i did not let u hit me with a torp so i got full crew, gdf, alpha, omega 1, rapid fire 3......yeah gg dude.
sure my carrier sucked hard. i got help on skill spec, droped alot of heals and got actual skills to use it got alot better. i got aux to sif 2 pushing close to 5k in hp but its the resit that i look for. (not bumping my aux either) he 1, tss1, sci team 2. but its what i do use that hurts. vm1(7.1 secs) purple doff. tbr 1 with low aux if i want to keep you there when your omega is off for extra damage. high aux to break healing and push. psw 1 if your using extends and im next to you to break or just to bump you off of me. gw3 to keep pets under control or ill target your engines and use gw 3 and hope my purple doff procs. consoles are a mk12 purple to boost my repel ( yeah yeah yeah people say its TRIBBLE but i actually think boosting repel is a good thing) 1 mk11 blue for extra sheild cap and the rest is to boost damage of tbr psw 1 and gw3. nice thing here is that i have a few configs i can set up for what ever i need. fbp3? tbr 3? psw3? gw3? only 1 of thoes powers are not boosted by my repel console. but the rest are. but guess what? they are all boosted by my other consoles.( soon to all be mk12 purples)

Okay, okay, I leave you guys alone. Don't want to get anyone of you banned for being oh so friendly to people.
sophie, if you would just listen, even a little, and if you made any sense at all we would all welcome your input.
but you have ruined your relationship with many people on the forums and in-game.
for f-word sake you were just talking about transphasics doing killshot damage. that is delusional. +45% of 300 dps is still TRIBBLE. and if it hits hull there is no bonus. thats why quantum always wins out.
you do not spam torps unless they are chroniton.
have you made even 1 friend from your exploits on the forums or your"1v1 testing" ?????
i mean, you even got under sivar's skin, and that guy is pretty lax afaik.
and i will gladly take forum points or get banned for straightening you out.

Hm... would't something like "2 beam arrays fore, 2 beam arrays aft, 2 torps fore, 1 torp aft" work better in a ship with a cruiser turn rate?
You asked for a build. THat's a build I was using on Teapower for a short while. Worked mildly well. And the turn rate wasn't that horrible.

Think about this:
American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
Bird of Prey
Engine: Borg
Inertia: 80
Flight Speed: 29.07 (6 Impulse Thrusters)
Turn rate: 52.8 (6 Impulse Thrusters, 1x RCS Turn rate +35%)
Atrox Carrier
Engine: Borg
Inertia: 20
Flight Speed: 20.35 (6 Impulse Thrusters)
Turn Rate: 6.9 (6 Impulse Thrusters)
Gee.. looks like a Carrier moves slower then a BoP. And the BoP Is compairable to an Escort.. How ever..
Garumba (Escort)
Engine: Borg
Inertia 70
Flight Speed: 30.44 (6 Impulse Thrusters)
Turn rate: 33.5 (6 Impulse Thrusters, 1x RCS turn rate +35%)
