Was in KASE yesterday, saw a fed tac in a defiant, flying with beam arrays, in a spectacular rainbow config. I think he had EVERY possible beam array. I saw green, blue, purple, light blue, white and yellow

PuG-ing KASE last night. For some unknown reason, I didn't check the teammates before I went to the tactical cube at the start (just one of those days I guess - I didn't check them in all 3 STFs I did). We kill the cube. I go right (as usual) and start doing the routine probes+cube+transformer. A teammate went for the other transformer. Someone died...and another one after that. I turn to the left and I see no cubes invoked yet. I'm done with my cube and am taking-out the probes - the teammate on my side is dead and the cube is full-impulsing to the center of the map. I take it out (it was at about 65%)...and headed over to the transformer...drop it down to 50% until the next wave of probes and then I went to clean them...at this moment, I noticed that 3 teammates are dead and there are 2 cubes lurking to the left. Full impulse diagonally to one of them...then back for the next pair of probes. After that I did my transformer...a little after that the other teammate did his on our side. I turn left again - both transformers are sitting proudly and staring at me....full impulse to one of them - it was at 25% - quick burst and it's down. Went back to work on the probes and the gate. The team-mate with me went to the other side to help. I was trying really hard not to blow the gate before they're done a significant damage to theirs. At around 30% of the gate, one of the dying trio came to "help". At this point I activated "photonic fleet" and went left. I saw 4 probes warping out of the gate I left and I thought - "I'll go check on them after 20 seconds - just in case, despite that there is a teammate there who should take care of them". I took out the probes on the left, and about to start punishing the gate...but after 10 seconds spheres warp-out....OK - that means that there are probes still heading to the portal on the right. - Full impulse to catch-up with them. I went back and at that time the gate was at around 50% - I decide to go all out and move within 2 km. of the gate. After that everything went more or less without a trouble. The strangest thing was that all 4 of the teammates were TAC Captains.....and they died a lot....and one of them was in Exploration Cruiser.
Sometimes I really want to go out with my fleet recon or star cruiser, but these days there are too many non-elite players in the elite STFs, and that would make it a huge waste of time. That's why I prefer to be prepared to deal with 4 probes and a gate within the time limit than having fun flying around and doing nothing.
Actually, the quote is: "It is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".
Don't know if that was Mark Twain or Abraham Lincoln that said that, though.
You are absolutely right, thank you for the correction. I believe it was Mark Twain though, Lincoln had far more class than to say something like that where others could hear him.

warp into an ISE pug, and right at the start, there is a guy with literally 50 (FIFTY!!!!!1111!!1!1!) injuries in a patrol escort (dual beam boat). heres a picture if you dont believe me, no naming
he didnt get more, because he pulled no aggro at all (really, the combatlog indicates he didnt die, AND he hadnt applied ANY heals to his ship)
there is a raptor, a star cruiser, and another vesta. we kill the cube fairly fast, then move to the transformer. injury guy ignores the cube goes for the generator. we kill the cube, I take a generator, and hope he wont blow his. my fear was unjustified, by the time I got to 10% he could work down his gen to 65% (though we had others at 80 too...). so I help in, we barely destroy the transformer.
at this point I see that the only help is the raptor, the rest are in beamboats (well, I think the Vesta was flying the base setup with transphasics, but I suspect with high aux power, so he wasnt any help either).
basically from that point I and the raptor suffer from the incoming dmg (so we die pretty much at the same time, which means basically no dps is applied while we are in respawn oblivion).
we suffer through the game, by the end I was the onlyone who healed his ship, even the raptor has two injuries, guess he ran out of repair kits. the star cruiser now at 7 or 8 injuries, and the vesta has 4 too.
in the end it took us 20 minutes to finish, and the star cruiser and injury guy didnt even jump the 1000 dps mark (well, they barely jumped 500 dps).

I just want to say that spending even a few points on Threat Control when you already draw 100% mob aggro is a recipe for concentrated pain. It's honestly the closest STO's PvE will get to a challenge mode.
Chat works great here, both Voice and text and on all 7 computers too! Middleschoolers... Phewy.
It's kinda like the people who get disconnected alot, have lag, or lots of studder. They will INSTANTLY blame the game without checking the forums or the support area for any remedy, diagnostics or suggestions.
The problem with chat, which has been brought up MANY times in this thread is all too often people don't have it turned on, don't speak the same language, or just miss what's going on while tied up in the action. It can also be more than many people to handle when they are trying to fight a battle and engage in a conversation. Something to do with walking and chewing gum at the same time.
Recently, I've noticed more and more people actually RESPONDING when I say 'HI' in the chat window at the beginning of a match.

PUG on Khitomer space last night. I take left side and kill the Probes while everyone else goes right, and after a minute this Patrol Escort comes over and starts attacking generators, then goes after the next set of Probes that spawns and practically instagibs them with CRF/TS so I shrug and join the rest of the people on the right side. Good thing I did because the guy in the beamboat Escort that was on Probe duty on the right couldn't handle them, and I finished off the last 2 before they hit the portal. I kill the next set of Probes too, then notice the guy in the Escort that had taken over the left side had wandered over to the right so I hit evasive and zoom over toward the portal just in time to see 3 Probes going through it from the left. "So much for the optional" I thought. I went back to the left side to do Probe duty since the guy in the Patrol Escort abandoned it, and the beamboat Escort is still unable to handle the Probes from the right and nobody would help him, so eventually we failed because I couldn't watch both sides at the same time and the people on the right were either ignoring the Probes (Patrol Escort) useless (beamboat Escort) or somehow dying constantly (everyone else).
It's hard to pinpoint the single worst STF I've had.... there have been so many...
There was the Cure Space Elite where everyone thought "fly in circles and shoot stuff at random while ignoring the Kang" was a great strategy. Or the many that we asked "Don't kill the cube yet... "Sorry I can't hear you I'm busy killing this cube."
Or the Infected Ground Elite where one guy incessantly charged through every trigger point, then insisted on setting up turrets in the final room over and over after being asked not to, then quit.....
Or the KSE where it took 45 minutes to put down Donatra because no one had any decent equipment or DPS...
Or the KSE where one douchebag felt it was his god-given right to order everyone around, and insulted anyone who didn't listen. I had fun with him. I put all my power in shields and engine and buzzed Donatra until she cloaked, then went out of range. For 30 minutes. I thought his head would explode. "I'm a gold member and I'll get you banned!" he said. Yea I'm equipped with A-hole corbamite. I amplify and reflect it back at them....
And there was last nights KSE, or whatever they call it now. One guy shows up in a Galaxy-X with 47 injuries ( I counted) and sat at the spawn point the entire time. Luckily we had 2 escorts with really good DPS and were able to pull it off.
There were many that went textbook perfect, but many, many more that went horribly wrong.
"I'm a gold member I'm going to get you banned!" - that has to be one of the funniest 'I pay money for something that's free so I'm better than you' things I ever heard. lol
"I'm a gold member I'm going to get you banned!" - that has to be one of the funniest 'I pay money for something that's free so I'm better than you' things I ever heard. lol
The really funny part of that exchange is that I'm a life subscriber, and have been since before f2p.:D
Playing ISE the other night and it's obvious that one guy isn't following the "10% rule".
Having asked if anyone in the group doesn't know the rule, we get into a discussion with this guy. We were told that the "10% rule" is a "myth" and it doesn't work. Apparently they had tried it "on the one with the Kang" !??! We were asked why we just didn't blow up all the generators at the same time, seemingly unaware of the point of "10% rule".
Was also told that this wasn't their first STF, and in fact had 2.25 million XP! I was impressed by this. :P
I was impressed that someone was actually keeping track of their XP. I took me a couple of minutes to work out where you could look it up
This thread is the best. I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading...
This is my worst in recent memory: the other day I decided to take my Fed Eng for a spin in CSN (he's a newer character and doesn't have the gear for elite yet). I fly a mirror star cruiser with him. Typically I run a healing cruiser and take on the cubes in CSN.
So, we get in, the team consists of a couple of patrol escorts and a couple of cruisers (oddy and star cruiser if I remember correctly). The escorts break off to guard the kang, so I fly off to the nearest cube and clear out the BoP's there before getting into the generators. One of the cruisers come with me, and at this point I've lost track of the other one. We start popping the generators pretty quickly and I think to myself, "well if we keep up this pace we'll get the optional no problem." Then I swing around and see the kang?covered in BoPs. What happened to the people guarding it!? well it turns out they decided to take on the cubes themselves, so we ended up with people at *each* cube fighting it and *no one* guarding the kang. So I hit evasive, divert power power to engines, and burn up an engine battery and coming flying in to the kang. I heal it and clear out the BoP's, which was surprisingly easy since I don't consider my ship to be much of a damage dealer. I end up guarding the kang on my own for a while, and one of the cubes gets take down. Now everyone realizes that the kang needs more than one person, so they all group there and start fighting the raptors. After it seems like the situation at the kang is under control, I break off and start fighting one of the cubes with an escort. Of course, I draw all the aggro from the cube and the raptors guarding it. I die once because of this, but come back and keep fighting it. After a while the escort seems to get bored, and goes back to guarding the kang, which already has three other people on it.So, I'm fighting one cube by myself. I take down the remaining generators and kill the cube, and then, to my great surprise, the last cube comes down seconds after. Apparently one of the guys guarding the kang broke off and starting working on the other one while I was busy taking care of mine. Unfortunately, it's come too late, and we miss the optional. It takes about a good five minutes to take down the carrier, who focuses all of its fire on me. I wish I had taken a combat log of that run, because the DPS seemed horribly imbalanced?when my cruiser with *no* real damage buffs out performs a tac in a fleet escort, something is wrong. That run wasn't a horrible experience, but definitely the most struggling I've seen on CSN in a while.
Another thing that really gets me is when I see rainbow builds in an elite run. At that point I resign myself to the fact we won't get the optional.

this is more of a worst STFer than STF:
so me and my friend warp into a KASE. I write me and my buddy right, the rest go left and deal with the probes, we will help you when we finish.
out of three only two listen (atleast they held the probes at bay and managed to get one transformer down, so we were happy). however the third came with us. guess what he was in? yes, a rainbow odyssey. this is such a cliche I thought. then he saw us obliterate the right side, and he had to ask his question: "where do you get these rapidfire cannons, what you use?"
I srsly died laughing, because I forgot to get a tac team up against the gate, laughing so hard. a rainbow ody captain asking for the iwincannon... although we told him we just know how to play, he didnt really believe us
the other favourite moment when we pugged an ISE. our team hadnt enough dps to bring down stuff without 10% rule, but why is that gonna stop us in not using that rule? so in the end we ended up with scattered spheres because we were stupid enough to think a pug can handle this.
anyhow I couldnt one grav well them, so had to hunt them down one by one, and my friend got bored, so he just took the other side of transformers down, and was smart enough to time it right, so by the time I got there I could make a nice grav well.
in the end one guy writes: "my dps was not good, but the others did OK". my buddy just died a little bit. taking one side alone, and someone calls him OK
We flew in, someone says 10% rule and everyone said ok.
The entry group died and 4 Feds fly left and start on the cube. The Klink flies right and attacks everything. He kills a node while everyone is yelling at him to stop.
He says "HaHaHa, (name withheld) strikes again!!!"
Today i was running in a Pug on KASE and every thing started out great. Plenty of DPS going from the escorts to the cruiser. We manage to take the left side pretty quick, and about that point the game decided "F$% these guys" and begins getting mean. Granted i'm in the fleet defiant, and i've got it set with consoles for iso charge, borg, and subspace jump and such so it's a little squishy at times, but that said it's been a LONG time since i've had my shields torn through that fast as well as my hull.
I've noticed that a lot lately the bleed through has been pretty bad, dropping way too much hull with shields still up, but then a few times i get hit with "Cube deals 52520 (103008) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Torpedo - Heavy II" which in a defiant is no fun when they're invisible, even the autoturret doesn't see it coming. We go from optional with minutes to spare to 8/10 probes through and people dying left and right, sadly me the most. Controls keep locking up on respawn for multiple people and at one point Donatra pops off the thalaron pulse taking out two or three people right as they respawned at the same time. Checking the combat log i was taking damage from the scimitar's turrets long after it cloaked so i knew it wasn't fired right before cloaking, but even the turrets were dealing major damage. The sphere's were killing people way too easily, the tractor probes were doing damage without using the beams or visibly firing anything, and donatra was kicking some but and taking names.
We managed to beat her after a few minutes, but it was still a head hung in shame silent ending when we started out so great only to have a laundry list of problems spring up half way through. The team was great, especially for a pug, but they knew what they were doing, they all seemed like good people, yet some how the game decided that run just wouldn't be a good one.
Yeah, had a similar experience last week in ISE. Died 6:eek: times as a engineer in my Steamrunner -.- DPS overall was really low in the pug group so that over time more damage was coming in. But still. 6 times ... I was so ashamed. But the rest died even more often. And the TAC cube was right at the respawn point. I tried to lure it away but with no success. But the group was nice and we had a good laught at the disaster xD
And yesterday I just died once from plasma fire. In 5sec from 10% to boom. HE on cooldown and clicked on RSF instead of MW
So it was an ISE run. Everything seems normal enough; pretty standard mix of cruisers and escorts, one guy in a raptor. We're slower than normal getting through the first group, but that happens in pugs sometimes, so I thought nothing of it.
Then the guy in the Raptor says "I'm so sorry guys, I moved my gear to my new shop but forgot to set it as main!"
This is fine, I think. ISE is totally four-manable. I told him to scavenge his shuttle for anything (he had literally no gear; no engines, shields, nothing) and to at least pop Tac Fleet as often as possible. He managed to get a deflector and engine off his shuttle, but no shields.
Then somebody botched the 10% rule. Next thing I know we've lost the optional. Great.
It takes a while, but we finally clean up the mess and destroy the generator. At this point Raptor discovers he has a plasma DBB and a phaser single cannon in his inventory; better than nothing, I say.
By now, I notice two things. One, nobody is cussing at poor Raptor for his mistake. And two, people are actually talking. Everybody is cool about it, nobody's sore over the lost optional. We decide to take the Tac Cube since by the time everyone respawned (we were wiped after the second generator blew) it had bolted back to its original location. We melt through it pretty good, then go after the gate, and wrap the STF. Took a little under an hour. But y'know what? I had fun in the end.
I know I know, technically the opposite of what this thread is about, but I think it's important because it illustrates how even a terrible STF run can still yield some good.
Ohh, i miss the old IGE pug times. In allmost every group there was one who ignored the trigger lines, 'cause he didn't know them. Then there was the guy with the minigun and no remod. Another had hundreds of injuries...
Many times we reached Becky nonetheless, only to find out that 3 of the 5 guys can't jump and fall to their doom. Then one quits after a couple of tries and you had wasted an hour of your life for nothing...

Fleet alert.
Pugged in, said 'hi'
Everyone says hi, ones on voice chat.
The voice chat guy says everyone follow me, I know how to do this.
His accolade is 2000 something.
Nobody says anything.
I move into position along with someone else.
The guy yells 'hey noobes, your going to blow the whole thing, I've done lots of these so follow me!'
Nobody says anything.
He says he's got the best ship so keep him healed.
Nobody says anything.
Mission starts.
We all start firing, he doesn't. I think he was waiting for the initial screen play to end.
The first few ships die, he still hasn't fired.
The first group dies and he says he needs healed.
I type, 'sorry bub, you "know" what your doing.'
He starts yelling noobe this and noobe that.
He dies.
He comes back, dies again.
He's still yelling noobe this and noobe that and we should be healing him.
Four of us are just typing lol in chat and healing the star base.
The last group comes in.
He dies.
Then he says in voice that if we had followed him the mission would have gone faster.
Somebody says if he knew what he was doing he wouldn't have spent the mission dead.
He calls us all noobes again and leaves.
We all type lol and leave.
It was fun!

anyhow I couldnt one grav well them, so had to hunt them down one by one, and my friend got bored, so he just took the other side of transformers down, and was smart enough to time it right, so by the time I got there I could make a nice grav well.
in the end one guy writes: "my dps was not good, but the others did OK". my buddy just died a little bit. taking one side alone, and someone calls him OK
I hate pugs, but love the stupidity in them

We flew in, someone says 10% rule and everyone said ok.
The entry group died and 4 Feds fly left and start on the cube. The Klink flies right and attacks everything. He kills a node while everyone is yelling at him to stop.
He says "HaHaHa, (name withheld) strikes again!!!"
Then he bails.
Bunch of Feds too
All feds running rainbow beam boats
Take forever to do anything.
Finally get to Donatra
Feds all die 9001 times
Start leaving
Only STF I've never finished.
Bads will bad.

Many times we reached Becky nonetheless, only to find out that 3 of the 5 guys can't jump and fall to their doom. Then one quits after a couple of tries and you had wasted an hour of your life for nothing...
Haven't played an IGE since S7, it's a shame
