You gonna tell him or anyone else "If you don't like it, quit" ? That helps Cryptic, how? Yeah, i'm sure alot of subscribers quitting the game, would help them alot. Good plan.
Until I see an actual forum post, and a patch to download, the DOff system isn't ready for testing. Regardless of how many times/ways Heretic decides to say "Soon". We've heard it all before, on countless other subjects...
This is nothing against you Aisling, I've never had an issue with you.
All I'm saying, is that a good many people around here are sick and tired of hearing "soon" from the devs in this game.
Because "soon" or even "very soon" doesn't mean anything here.
And yet you keep coming back here looking for information from the developers. Now who's got an issue? Seriously, it doesn't work to at the same time read deveoper posts as though they're a credible source of information while you're going around saying they're not. Just decide already whether they are or not, and then treat them that way. Otherwise you just come off as crazy.
I mean really, how sensible is what you're saying, which is essentially this: "everything you say is a lie, so please tell me something more".

Fine... How bout this one? "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you."
Already been fooled once, twice, 3 times and more from this company... i've given them my response by unsubbing, and until they prove to me otherwise, it will remain unsubbed.

Yes I have an issue.
What I'm saying though, is for the devs to stop saying things and actually DO SOMETHING. Such as live up to their word for once.
Heretic posted a few minutes ago he hopes we have some sick time available. And he posted this in the DOff sticky thread, and to quote "Soon".
I don;t want to hear soon. I want to see something happen.
If the DOff system goes to open testing anytime within the next week, it will be the first time in a long time I will actually have faith in anything they say. That would be the first of many, many steps down the road to trusting them again.
Bahh... I work in a hospital, we're not allowed to be sick...
But I've got quite a few Mental Health Days saved up...
And at the rate You folks are tossing out Soon this and Very, Very Soon that... I may just have to use every single one of them!
You deal with a hospital at work, and come home to all the trolls, flaming, and other entertainments on the STO forum and in game, and you still have mental health? Enough to have days off to secure it? Wow.

See, but I get not trusting them. Personally, I'm on the trust and verify if it's important plan. Thus, I don't tend to make plans based on what they say is going to happen. What I don't get, is why I would get upset by that unless I thought they were deliberately misleading me to be malicious, and even then why keep listening; it's easy to just to wait for it to happen. It's not like they hold something important in their hands, which is why people say...it's just a game.
Do you trust or for that matter care if you trust every other company you do business with? If so, lucky you, but I feel disappointment awaits. I'm really just happy if I feel I can trust family and friends and for everyone else...trust doesn't really need to enter into it.
Oh well, whatever makes you happy or upset or whatever.

Except in this one case, I don't do business with companies I don't trust.
As I stated in another thread, I have one reason for remaining subbed, and it's nothing to do with Cryptic.

Ummmm... Allow me, to introduce you to, my alter ego...
So Heretic, will we be able to use the Doff interface and both accept and complete missions on our ship interiors? If not...thats really bad. The Doff system is exactly the type of thing a Captain would be doing from his ready room or bridge, so please tell me the answer is yes
well maybe tommorrow for it to goto tribble. I just looked its not on there yet. Lets hope soon is what he is truly saying. Soon like tonigt, tommorrow?

So, you can in fact interface with the duty officer system from the interior of your ship (you can't, note, when your ship is in non-social system maps). We are also investigating special assignments from personnel around the interior of your ship. Not entirely certain that that answers your question, however...?
One of the worst words in game development history. Nobody but the developers know exactly how long "Soon" is, by their definition.
As I use it, "soon" (as distinct from "very soon") in development terms means, "It's on the schedule, it has a due date, that due date is in the next few weeks." Where it gets a bad rep is in that things do go wrong, schedules get changed, things sometimes don't go smoothly. The major complication is that there is considerable lag time between when a developer checks in a change and it goes through the pipeline to come out to the player-facing server.

So in effect, "Soon" has no real meaning to us, since your last "Very very soon" could mean anything from a few hours, to several weeks. In other words, business as usual, and no point sticking around waiting for something which inevitably can be released at any time (or not at all).

OK... Now describe your version of Very, Very Soon....

I apologize but I am not completely sure what you mean. Dont you HAVE to be in a social space map to go to your bridge in the first place? What do you mean by "non-social system maps"?

Duty officer assignments are available on social maps - ground and system - and also sector maps. They may also be available in some select missions. Assignments are also available in your ship interior if your ship is currently on one of the above types of maps.

Non-social system maps = mission space maps.
Ah ok. So basically everywhere except mission maps(unless that specific map has been made to have a Doff mission)?

Just don't get too close...,
... he never uses tissues..., or his sleeves.
It's happening tonight isn't it?
That's why the dev tracker has gone so quiet.
Lord-Mirrem
It had better be.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Soon.
Dark Helmet: How soon?
"Soon"
One of the worst words in game development history. Nobody but the developers know exactly how long "Soon" is, by their definition.
Online dictionary states it means "In a timely manner":

I'll be more clear. Heretic...define Cryptic's meaning of 'soon.'
