I think what we are trying to figure out is, can we be sitting anywhere in space, as long as its not in a combat zone (like a patrol mission or something), and still be in the interior of the ship using the doff roster or whatnot?
AND can we sit in out captain chair/readyroom chair and use it? Currently we cant sit in the chair and use the mission log. We have to be standing.

I dont think you can go to your bridge from within a mission. You have to be in a space sector.

Yes, you can be sitting anywhere in space as long as it is not a combat zone, be on your ship interior, and use the duty officer system.
I believe you should be able to sit in the chair and use the duty officer system, since calling it up is part of the UI rather than be an interactable object like the mission log is.
Duty officer assignments are available on social maps - ground and system - and also sector maps. They may also be available in some select missions. Assignments are also available in your ship interior if your ship is currently on one of the above types of maps.
Non-social system maps = mission space maps.
What I find interesting is that this suggests the server has more "awareness" of a ship'slocation while you're inside it than it used to have, it would seem.
I note that the loading screens for space maps also have a preview image that is just about viewscreen proportions.
Would be really cool if the viewscreens used that preview image.

I found that interesting also. The game knows where to send our avatar when we exit ship interiors. The DO System may be tapping into that mechanic to determine our previous location while on the bridge, etc.
In any case, very cool that we'll be able to use this from our bridge or from the captain's chair! At least that's one trek thing we can do on the bridge. A shame we might never be able to set a course from the bridge or hail a friend on the main viewscreen.
So each tier we get on Doff Beta will give a unique reward? So what about Ambassadors that have already unlocked all their Diplomacy tiers? Will we get all the rewards for getting all the Diplomacy tiers provided we transfer over our Ambassador to Beta or will we have to start from scratch?
So here's a crazy idea that may or may not be executable: why not have certain doff assignments available when you visit certain areas of your ship - in the same way that being in certain sectors open up new assignments. So, say you must be in engineering to assign certain types of missions.
It might be a reasonable way to give at least a light use to your ship interiors.

It'd be great to grant this via an "enter" volume, much like the mission completion volumes.
Are there any missions currently that have been made doff-able? (love that word btw)
Yes and no. There has been some work on it, but we are still waiting on some tech to make it work right. These are unlikely to be ready in time for its release to Tribble, but I think the odds are good for them to be ready in time for everything to land on Holodeck.

To make this happen we have convinced the game to consider the actual map you are on when you are inside your ship to be the last map you were on for purposes of duty officer assignments.
In other words, dread programmer magic involving the sacrifices of many cute, innocent Tribbles.

You will need to earn it on Tribble, even for Diplomacy. Diplomacy tiers gained prior to this test cycle will not count.

This is, in fact, a stretch goal that may or not make it in for launch of the system.

Does that mean that when we transfer our Captains over, their Diplomacy rank will be reset, hopefully ? This would be preferable for most, I'd think, because anyone who's already at ambassador would probably prefer to use that character(or those characters) to level up again, rather than a new one.
In my own case, I have two Ambassadors and an Envoy I was planning to import for testing. I can stop the Envoy just before she gets Ambassador if diplomacy is not going to be reset, but I don't really have any other good candidates for leveling diplomacy right now.
So, imho, resetting our Diplomatic XP when we transfer over would be very helpful if possible.
I am so stoked and ready to test Doff system. I was on the Foundry RedShirt choices last year. I would be honored to be with the Doff Public Test Team. Since the Duty Officer System was first mentioned my eyes lit up with incredible hope and I have watched every single step of the way with it and have seen every post that mentions it. I truly believe this will change the game forever. be something no other MMO has and will work EXTREMELY well in this universe. Heretic you are the man for being the frontrunner for this system.

What happens if I'm on someone else's ship interior? Or if I transition between someone else's ship interiors over to mine?

Correct. I have to tag every individual map to be "doff-able", and I think I caught them all.

Any word on the Vulcan Love Slave HoloBOff duty officer mission string? <.<
Well great. Now I'll be disappointed if the reward for testing the DOff system on Red Shirt isn't a DOff with a top hat and a monocle...

Do it!
I want one too.

:O
I'm unemployed/disabled and ready to start testing Let do it! lol
Why? You leaving Cryptic too and need a replacement.

That's because it is going to be on Tribble.
Although the updated Tribble hasn't launched yet.

Ah, ok. I got confused when Redshirt did a 5GB patch today. Still waiting for Tribble to come back onto the launcher then.
