I was thinking, whats the draw to get people to pay for the game...maybe Doffs should be for gold accounts....

There should be a mention by Heretic when the Doff system went to closed beta so that we know it is still on track. Closed Beta testers would violate their NDA if they mentioned when it started.

All I am at liberty to say about the schedule at this time is that the timing for the duty officer system to go to Tribble is still on track, or even a little ahead of schedule.

given the way the doff system is going to be intertwined with so many other parts of the game that is probably not even possible.

that being said there is no reason to get people to pay for the game. thats why its going free to play. they will make more money on microtransactions than they ever would on subs.

Don't jinx it - if I recall, the whole Doff system was "ahead of schedule" for a lot of it's development, was a sure thing to launch witrh Season 4; and the Department Head system was going to show up soon after Season 4 hit.

Really looking forward to trying it out; but, just sayin... ;)

Considering I practically spend all my nights awake (and my days asleep lol), yeah, it'd definitely be a nice thing. I mean, I haven't beta-tested in a while, but it's always a good experience and something that, if not myself, then others will always enjoy and hopefully contribute to.

The best I can hope for is that Cryptic gets the criticism and support they need to push this through to Tribble sooner, rather than later.

And there I was under the impression that red squad still would have 'all access' to redshirt.

Now if you excuse me I need to get another tuffli tribble from the exchange to practice my voodoo.

edit: I regret to inform you that there are currently 158 tuffli under my 'supervision'. The ball is in your yard now Heretic. :D

Hey, it's not like we wore capes or anything.

Redshirt was taken offline after Season 3

Some updates on current iterations of the system some of you may be interested in:

    1. Tweaking the number of assignments you can have active at once from 10 to 20. Note that this is an experiment; we're going to see how it goes and iterate on this as appropriate.

    2. Diplomacy and Marauding commendation category rewards will still grant a purple bridge officer of the opposite faction at Tier 4, but for Tiers 1, 2 and 3 will grant a unique duty officer of the opposite faction (green for Tier 1, blue for Tier 2, purple for Tier 3 - note that the other commendation categories are usually green for Tier 1/2, blue for Tier 3, purple for Tier 4).

As an aside, we are working on some special incentives for Holodeck for players to test various things on Tribble, including the duty officer system. It's not just tribbles this time...

Those DOs may prove more useful, I suppose, but I was looking forward to an all Federation Gorn away team once I promote my Gorn BO and level his diplomacy.

Dang, I was still hoping we could have Green, Blue, and Purple BOffs from the opposite faction :(. Oh well, We get now DOFFs from the opposide side.

Any chance of DoFF system to get us new BO of our own faction?. Will Current BOs from diplomatic get upgraded?

Also: Will the DoFF system allow us to change or upgrade innate traits of current BOs?

grandfathered as in if we have already done the grind we only got a T1 reward for it? why not just let the current ambassidors have an extra BOff (the one we have) and be able to choose a second white one?

it's a little 'gimmie gimmie' i know but i spent alot of time getting my main to the cap, it'd be nice if there was some point to it.

Grandfathered as in you would keep your current white bridge officer, but also get a second white one in addition to a green one, a blue one, and a purple one.

So I'm assuming the above isn't happening anymore? Those BOff's are now DOff's and we just get one purple BOff at the end?

Yes, the duty officer system will allow access to additional bridge officers of your own faction.

You will keep any current bridge officer from Diplomacy and get an additional purple bridge officer, plus the additional duty officers.

The duty officer system will not allow you to change or upgrade innate traits of existing bridge officer, no.

Correct. The current plan - subject, as always, to change between now and things going live on Holodeck - is for you to get an additional purple bridge officer of the opposite faction on top of any existing white bridge officer you currently have - though this will become a grandfathered duty officer; any newly minted Tier 4 Diplomacy players will only get the single purple bridge officer of the opposite faction.

So basically, claim our white Diplomacy BOff now before the Duty Officer system goes live? If we don't do we lose that white BOff?

Will we still be able to choose which Tier 4 BOff we get or will it be randomly chosen for us?

My understanding of how that system works suggests that if you have obtained Tier 4 in Diplomacy by the time the duty officer system goes live, you can claim your white bridge officer at your leisure. If you obtain Tier 4 in Diplomacy after the duty officer system goes live, you will claim a single purple bridge officer of the opposite faction.

Will we still be able to choose which Tier 4 BOff we get or will it be randomly chosen for us?

Yes, you will still be able to choose which Tier 4 bridge officer you will get.

In addition, you will also have a choice of species for your Diplomatic/Marauding duty officers.

I know a perfect idea for everyone for a test reward... Klingon Pain Sticks! No player would be complete without an eye patch and a painstick :D

Just so long as John Tesch did not come with it, I would be fine.
