Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
Select a small away team to travel in a shuttle and or small axillary craft, to study and survey some promising sensor anomaly. if successful it would yield crafting resources through the doff system.
if you have a mission for each type of common trace and as a reward would yield that type of trace. It would definitely be less hit and miss sending the subordinates to do the grunt work.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
Hi,
For feds with a diplomatic or puzzles looking for clues but possible for klingons too with a go in guns blazing
I would love an assignment mission where one of either the playable captian/ a brdige oficer or duty offcer is abudcted and the player chooses an away team to go find the missing character, if the ship's captian is the one abducted then it would make a nice change to take control of one of the brdige officer, perhaps the first officer?
For klingons but maybe something similar for feds.
Lead a munity to take charge of a ship, or defend your captaincy from a challenging duty officer
For the feds perhaps confrontation other some issues with a superior officer?
One last idea is a temporary change of duty, from command of a ship to command of an outpost or star base with a set of assignments or missions to do.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
I really like the idea of onboard ship assignments, to give a bit more life and RP to my ship...
Engineering and science duties; lab experiments, space phenomina analysis, bio analysis, propulsion, weapons diagnosics and tests etc.
I also think some down time assignsments would be cool, like attend ships "movie" night, on board tennis tournament, attend Esign XYZ's Violin Concert.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking for a specific mission scenerio based on what we currently know or are you asking for our thoughts on how to evolve the current assignment system?
If it is the latter I would like to be able to incorporate our Doffs and even Captain into the system. You see that happen alot in the shows. You didn't just send Junior Officers alone to do stuff. They generally had at least one of the cast go with them.
Class of the Academy is on your Ship assign a Doff to them so than can get some practical experience
Chance for a Student joining your Crew, disaster would be no Class wants to get experience on your Ship.
Cool idea. I hope we have a good variety of recruiting missions like this!
"Develop new, advanced hologram AI for Vulcan Love Slave."
Success would yield a [Fragmented AI Code].
Combining ten Fragmented codes, or getting a Critical Success, would yield [Partial AI Code].
Combine ten AI codes in a [Love Slave Schematic].
Take this to Memory Alpha and claim your unique Vulcan Love Slave HoloBOff (basically a Vulcan that can wear Orion outfits and has "Seduce" as a required trait)
Eh, change it from a BO to a Floor Trophy and we have a deal.
Personally, I think there's already enough silly BOs in the game and an entertainment hologram that regularly replaces a real officer on ground missions sounds a bit weird, not to mention that we do not yet have mobile emitters here. Plus, the Trophy system already makes extensive use of holograms, so this one should fit right in.
Just my two darseks on that idea. I already know that few people will care what a proper Starfleet would say to an exploitation like that. :P
OH! Instead of a Boff, and working on the floor trophy, why not have it so that the hologram walks around the mess hall. She is a phototonic lifeform afterall.
Actually, now that I think about it, I suppose the best place for her would be the Captain's Quarters. *ahem*
Preferrably with an on/off toggle.
Not a friend of the walking idea, but that's a subject of personal preferences. Myself, I don't really like the concept of the entire ship being kitted out with holoemitters. Which would seem even more weird for Klingon vessels. Maybe it's just me, but I liked her how she was in that one mission. Immobile on a glowing platform, being nice to look at.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
An assignment where you could send a DOff to improve a weapon against some species (romulan, breen, etc ...) and it would give the weapon a +x against that species (similar to the anti-borg weapons you can buy for valor points).
Another option would be to send the BO to study the species and he would come back with a random weapon with the +x against the species, etc ...

Just because the Prometheus had holo-emitters on every deck, doesn't mean future ships follow the same style. The Prometheus was after all, a prototype. More likely, they would install holo emitters in key areas of the ship (bridge, sickbay, main engineering, mess hall), and with obvious access to places such as the science labs and holodecks.
I vote a +1 for the Vulcan Love Slave "trophy" idea, make her interactive and movable within the mess hall

Another one:
Send Doffs to investigate a sector of space, and the BOff would find a way to transwarp to that sector. This would greatly help the klingons with the Borg DSE event (and any future galaxy wide event) since klingons have no transwarp point other than Qonos.

+1
(Not to mention, adding the ability to -modify- the Transwarp power to transwarp to a specific "home" location)
*looks at abilities such as Hearthstone from other games*

That is what I would prefer, but STO seems to follow a different idea. It's mentioned in one of the little loading screen snippets.
That said, this only applies to the ubertechnolized Starfleet ships, I do expect the KDF to be more "down to earth".

Well you can always not do those assignments or sell/discharge her, I suppose. *shrug*
And besides, I never said she'd be limited to only Orion-wear. I am not so thoughtless as to impose such presumptuous limitations on others! In my little world, you could dress her as a proper officer, if you wanted. Visitors to the bridge would never know the difference.
Myself, I don't really like the concept of the entire ship being kitted out with holoemitters. Which would seem even more weird for Klingon vessels.
Consider how long after the Proemtheus it is in STO's timeline. Is it such a stretch for you to believe that maybe the holo-kitted Prometheus was a resounding success? Of all the leaps STO makes, that one is, IMO one of the easiest to believe.
I'd really like missions to recruit rare and very rare BOFFs of both factions, since there is no mechanism to do that in game now other than buying ones off the exchange. I guess "recruiting missions" for Fed on Fed, and "retrieve dissident leader" to get Klingon Boffs for Feds.
If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
This turned out WAY longer that I anticipated so my apologies.
TL;DR Multi-layered, branching DOff assignment series that lead to an actual mission. Basically, DOff missions that can lead to more than just other DOff missions/rewards.
For example:
DOff's vacationing on Risa witness a fatal accident involving a Federation politico. The DOff's are debriefed, no suspicious issues are found, and they return to duty. This opens Counseling and Pay Respects assignments.
Following a completely different DOff assignment, it is discovered that an associate of another Fed politician suffered a serious accident while on vacation. They were treated and resumed their work. This opens up Investigate Similarities and Research Accident/Death Rates assignments.
Investigate Similarities is inconclusive. Research Accident/Death Rates shows that a few other politicians or politically-connected persons have been injured in accidents while vacationing in the past X months, though only one other death occurred. Everyone was treated and resumed their work. This leads to File Report With StarfleetorExpanded Research Accident/Death Rates assignments.
File Report With Starfleet closes out this assignment chain until K-7...You Sank My Starship, below. Expanded Research Accident/Death Rates shows that many of the Federation's politically-connected have needed medical treatment for injuries or illnesses in the past 2 years after which their political patron's voting tendencies change subtly. During that time 11 measures to increase Federation internal security were voted down, six of which dealt specifically with Undine detection. This leads to the Correlate Data assignment.
Correlate Data gives strong but circumstantial evidence of a collusion of some Federation politicians to block security measures designed to detect and prevent the very thing this assignment indicates. The politicians are all connected by association to the various accidents and illnesses previously uncovered, though what significance that plays is unknown. It is clear that something is going on but without hard evidence making accusations is potentially career-ending. You need help, but this must be played very close to the chest. There are a couple people at K-7 that you can trust and that owe you a favor or three. This results in the K-7...You Sank My Starship event.
K-7...You Sank My Starship is a sabotage attempt against your ship. Two assignments immediately become available; one Engineering and one Security. The Engineering assignment is Was That Supposed To Happen? and attempts to undo tampering with the antimatter containment system. Success averts disaster and reveals that the components for the sabotage device are all easily accessible from the cargo ships that pass through K-7. Failure results in DOff death and a critical warp core ship injury. The Security assignment Eeny, Meeny, Miny, (Ensign) Ro attempts to track down the saboteur. Success reveals the saboteur to be one of the DOff's that witnessed the fatal accident on Risa. Unfortunately, that DOff vaporizes himself rather than allow himself to be captured (DOff death). Critical success on this still results in vaporized DOff, but analysis of the residue shows that in addition to the DOff's normal DNA another form of DNA is present. Alas, this new DNA is too badly damaged to get any information from. Apparently, someone didn't like us digging up information they wanted kept secret. This event opens the regular mission To K-7 and Beyond.
To K-7 and Beyond is a real mission where we go to deep space K-7 to get to the bottom of the sabotage attempt against our ship and maybe learn more about a possible conspiracy in the Federation. When we arrive we find K-7 and three Federation starships under alert status, with shields up and weapons charged. Hailing us, they say that we will not be harmed if we surrender now. That some, possibly all, of our command officers are Undine infiltrators. And finally, no one from our ship will be allowed to leave the system; our choice is either surrender or death. Attempts at Picarding our way out of trouble fail and we have to fight to disable the "enemy" Starfleet ships, after which Commander Mazka beams from K-7 to a waiting runabout and flees the system. We prepare to follow but sensors show weapons fire from inside K-7. We beam aboard to investigate.
Inside is chaos. Starfleet personnel are fighting Starfleet personnel. It is impossible to determine what caused this, how to stop it or who to side with. The only solution, considering that some of the combatants may be Undine, is to defeat everyone and let our medical personnel figure it out afterward. Combat ensues, with some groups being much harder to defeat than they should be. Afterward it is discovered that most of K-7's command and medical staff have been inhabited by these creatures.
The parasites seem to have evolved a way to tap into the hosts' respiratory system directly, making them impossible to detect visually. Their sensor profile is transmitted to our ship which confirms several are detected on board each of the three disabled Starfleet ships around K-7. Those infected with this creature are heavily sedated and the removal process begun. The parasite's profile also matches the anomalous DNA from our DOff saboteur, but otherwise our ship is clear. It seems that Starfleet and the Federation are under attack from yet another insidious enemy. It is assumed that Commander Mazka is also compromised and that he will be reporting this to whomever/whatever he serves. His current whereabouts and destination are unknown.
We report this to Starfleet Command. They are dismayed by the news but heartened by our success. They say they'll immediately begin scanning Starfleet HQ, the Acadamy and the Federation Council using the parasite's sensor profile. We are ordered to find Commander Mazka and end the threat to the Federation these parasites represent. This opens the DOff assignment Mazka Lines.
Mazka Lines returns information about what Commander Mazka was doing at K-7. Nothing out of the ordinary appears until three years ago when he began keeping track of the locations of science and medical ships, and highly placed medical personnel. This occurred after a cargo ship docked with K-7 after rescuing survivors of a shipwreck on a charted but unsurveyed world. Records show that the survivors were treated by K-7 medical staff, given a clean bill of health and sent back to their homeworld. If those survivors were infected with the parasite they could have infected K-7 medical staff. After that they'd have access to almost every ship that comes through K-7, which means about half of Starfleet since the war started.
Mazka's pattern changed again a year later when he took a keen interest in politico-watching. That coincided with the return of a science ship to K-7 from the planet where the shipwreck survivors were picked up from. Records show that he had a long private meeting with the lead science officer of the survey mission, Commander Guenther. That planetary survey listed it as a Class L planet with no remarkable life or mineral resources and significant environmental hazards. Basically, no reason to go there. Also, Commander Guenther was transferred to K-7 a year ago.
After getting the Mazka Lines data we receive a priority message from K-7. Commander Guenther had just undergone the removal process when he changed into an Undine, attacked the medical staff, and beamed himself to a runabout! He's escaping!
Of course, we try to stop him but he's gone. We follow. On-route (or after arrival) our BOff's theorize about the parasite/Undine connection. Theory 1) They're working together. Highly unlikely considering Undine xenophobia regarding life in our universe. Also, why infect yourself? Theory 2) Undine are using the parasites to throw off Starfleet efforts to uncover Undine infiltrators. Possible but still reaching as it requires the Undine to rely on a lifeform from this universe to achieve their goals. Theory 3) The Undine are victims as much as Starfleet personnel were. Possible and most likely out of the three. Commander Guenther changed back into Undine form immediately after the parasite was removed, implying that the parasite was somehow able to prevent Undine shapechanging. Records show that Guenther also spent a year traveling around the Federation on the medical ship U.S.S. Glover. The Glover's ports of call correspond to a good number of the injury/illness incidents, and in fact Commander Guenther treated some of the injuries himself. Any one of them could be an Undine infiltrator, infected with a parasite, or both!!
The Guenther Undine leads us to a desolate asteroid system where there are numerous ships. Most are Undine but a few are Klingon and Federation. The Klingon and Federation ships, along with a smaller group of Undine, are attacking the large group of Undine. Sensors are limited due to radioactive material in the asteroids so we have to get close to scan each group for the parasite. The KDF/Fed/Undine group is infected with the parasite. Even though the Undine are currently our enemies we're under direct orders from Starfleet Command to deal with the parasites. So we attack the parasite fleet.
Eventually we win. The remaining pure Undine ships warp out instead of attacking us.
We report to Starfleet. There is much rejoicing and cake. They inform us that they'll dispatch starships to this system to search for survivors. We have a feeling they'll find Commander Mazka in an escape pod and that once he's unplugged he'll feel much better and go back to handing out missions at K-7.
Starfleet suspects that the parasites discovered a much more established infiltration network, through Commander Guenther, than what they had achieved on their own and decided to take advantage of it. Using Commander Guenther's knowledge of who was an infiltrator, the infected Guenther was traveling around infecting the other Undine infiltrators with the parasite. We're told by Starfleet that dozens of infected people have been detained while some have fled before they could be scanned. They are assumed to be compromised until they can be medically examined and cleared.
Is it such a stretch for you to believe that maybe the holo-kitted Prometheus was a resounding success?
Not at all. I just don't like it.
It takes away the reason for why Starfleet still bothers with living personnel at all when photonic lifeforms are just as creative and intelligent whilst being invulnerable to lots of things that would kill real people.
There's been lots of rather silly inventions in Trek already and I just don't see why one must add to the list. A subject of interpretation and preferences, though. We all have different barriers of where our "suspension of disbelief" stops being able to ignore things. I guess I just like things to be a bit more believable and "solid" rather than ripping holes into a plot. However, you seem to have missed that my remark was chiefly about the more grounded Klingon faction, not Starfleet.
Anyways, if those things are not possible in "your little world", I guess people like me will just have to pass on it, as you said. Pity, but there's just no pleasing everyone, and I do realize that I'm part of a minority here.
And besides, I never said she'd be limited to only Orion-wear. I am not so thoughtless as to impose such presumptuous limitations on others! In my little world, you could dress her as a proper officer, if you wanted. Visitors to the bridge would never know the difference.
I think there's a misunderstanding here - my post was not aimed at her clothing at all but at the way how such a hologram could be employed, and I'd simply prefer it the way I mentioned.
And you still do impose limitations on others, you just don't seem to notice. No such idea will please everyone, and your position is not morally superior to mine, regardless of that little insinuation. We all just like different things.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
Having the DOFFs complete a few in game missions (Cold Case, Spin The Wheel, etc) while I am off-line would be fun. They can report their success or failure and if successful you can choose the reward and receive the XP.
Shore leave. Maybe they can have a little too much fun and we have to compensate the local government or maybe they discover some hidden plot we have to investigate once we log back it.
A training session for our DOFFs, that has a small chance of upgrading the DOFF you send on the mission (they excel at their training), or a low chance of degrading them (if they're above white quality) because they failed it. Maybe they're fat or something.
As for the second question, It is possible to require a trait (one single trait) as a requirement of doing an assignment. It is not really possible at the moment to make it so that if you have Trait A you get Reward X, where if you have Trait B you get Reward Y.
Sure it is. Just set it up so that if you have trait A, you qualify for mission X that gives reward X, and if you have trait B, you qualify for mission Y that gives reward Y.
The missions can even be the same mission with a marker to only let you take one at at a given time (like how multiple reward options are handled).
That would let you fairly simply have different rewards based on different traits- although of course there's the question of how much memory it's going to take up- so eh.
Here's a question for all of you: If there was one kind of assignment that you would like to see in the game, what would it be?
Hmm, I guess a bit of stuff relating to experiments and testing of new equipment.
In addition how about some salvage operations? Like sending out your crew out to pry through wreckage of destroyed ships and such. Would work best near the border sectors I suspect. Rewards could be anything from commodities to occasional weapons and equipment.
If you could tie Doff assignments to certain things the character has like say the Peregrine fighter how about some assignments related to the shuttles/fighter. Each shuttle type could have its own assignments, Like you could send a couple doffs out with your fighter to go on patrol or send your Runabout out as a courier or scout and your Delta class could go on races.
I think there's a misunderstanding here - my post was not aimed at her clothing at all but at the way how such a hologram could be employed, and I'd simply prefer it the way I mentioned.
Ah. My bad.
And you still do impose limitations on others, you just don't seem to notice. No such idea will please everyone, and your position is not morally superior to mine, regardless of that little insinuation. We all just like different things.
Quite true. I suppose my faux-arrogance was probably a bad idea in that post to begin with.
Heck I can't wait until it comes out on tribble. I have withdrawls for this, yet I've never had it. I wait for each screenshot like waiting for the a season premiere. I've got DoFF bad.
*rubs arm*
can I have another shot of screenshots?
please I'm jonesing for some.
*rubs arms*
Seriously I've tried clicking on the screenshots. This is like the FFT side quests, but with more variety and more depth.

The kind where you don't see your reward before it's given - where there are actual choices to be made with consequences that can be good or bad.

The End????
Ah. My bad.
Quite true. I suppose my faux-arrogance was probably a bad idea in that post to begin with.
Actually, I believe the model for Holo Leeta has what appears to be a holo emitter
At least the one on Drozana appears to have one.
Please let us have to steal someone's desk.
I freaking love this episode: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Treachery,_Faith,_and_the_Great_River
It would be even more awesome if to get one assignment completed you had to do 5 other small silly assignments.
You have been tasked with putting together a sports team from your available crew members. The game takes place at some alien sports arena.
You send your athletes on a diplomatic mission to participate in this game.
Does Starfleet have what it takes to win?

can I have another shot of screenshots?
please I'm jonesing for some.
*rubs arms*
Seriously I've tried clicking on the screenshots. This is like the FFT side quests, but with more variety and more depth.
