Ok so the TOS Bundle was just released. I'm loving the whole thing, but I want to be able to do missions and STF's in a ship that matches the interior e.g. The TOS Constitution-Class. Now I know people are going to say that a Connie isnt that powerful and yada yada, but you just release a major pack full of uniforms, an accurate and working interior, a shuttle craft...but the only ship we have to match it is a T1 Connie.
Did someone forget to put it on the C too? Give the people what they want: Make a CDR and RA/VA version of the ship. Add more weapon hardpoints, more console slots like you did with the Galaxy-X, and get it out there! I have an amazing bridge, costumes, weapons from the devidian series, a shuttle, but no ship I can fly that wont blow up in a nano-second. Im flying a T5 Excelsior which coincidentally is the closest T5 ship near the TOS/TMP timeline. Dont leave us hangin here. Please, update the T1 Connie and let us RA/VA's enjoy it too!
From this TOS fan's perspective, it has always been unfortunate that the Constellation was a T1 and that there has been no T5 retrofit published. I second your suggestion that a T5 retrofit be made available for this iconic design.
YES. TOS, TMP. Both Working together, Doesn't matter to me. Please Cryptic. You've been watching the arguments. you've been watching the stuff. There has to be some way to put in this glorious ship without it being any kind of gimped Cough"RefitProposal"Cough.
Ok I have said this four times now I think... but anyway here I go again.
I think that we should NOT get a T5 connie. But, what I mean by that is we should not be able to pay 2000 Tokens and get a T5 ship. That makes no sense. BUT, we SHOULD be able to refit and upgrade our ships. It should be costly, and take a LOT of time, and we should only be able to upgrade them one tier at time. This should be done through crafting, and what makes it even better is that you would not be able to give it to someone else and have them craft it for you. You would have to do it yourself. And I think it should take like 48 hours per tier upgrade. (Though Time would run when offline too) and should cost a LOT of data samples.
So this makes the most sense to me. Because I am at least partially known as a valiant fighter for canon in this game, and I don't see a canon reason this wouldn't work. In fact canon says star fleet upgrade ships, retrofitting them with new weapons, more torps, things like that. So that is my "We both win" proposal.
But if it not done this way -^ it should not be done at all.

I'm with you on this Martok.
Be it through a scaling ship (That slowly progresses along as you play, till it hits some max stats that are "acceptable" for Vice Admiral use, but not equal to Tier 5 Cruisers, or be it through a refitting system (either crafting based or merit based).
This is the way it needs to be addressed, and needs to be applicable to all the lower tier ships, not just one specific ship.
Me, I'd perfer a crafting based system as you (and me in the past) have suggested.
All I ask for is that it doesn't blow 24th/25th century designs out of the water.
And it gives crafting one more reason to be useful.
Agreed, in fact maybe they could be slightly less effective.
That is what I was thinking too. I just hit the Crafting cap, and it's sorta useless once you got all your gear. Outside of assisting non crafters that is. So this help crafters be useful and get more people into crafting.
Ya know it seems like dstahl has said something like this idea in the past, but I can't remember any specifics.

I agree with that, I'd love for you to read the proposal in my sig and give me your opinion.

In an ideal system, it would bring Tier 1, 2 and 3 ships up to a useable level for Vice Admiral, as well as offering enhancements for Tier 4 and Tier 5 ships beyond what they currently have.
That way, not only do fans of the lower tier ships get something, but fans of the upper tier ships get something too!

Maybe. It wouldn't take long for the T5 TOSC people to start complaining they have to use a Sovereign or be nerfed.
I really wish this were not the case. Unfortunately, this is why a compromise seems impossible.
What people don't seem to understand is that the inclusion of such ships in the game at all *is* the compromise. The way to have them in the game even though they don't belong is to make them really weak, low-tier ships.
It just so happens that their complaint hits on the larger point of the ship system being one more highly and unnecessarily restrictive thing that could very easily tie all kinds of game mechanics together to make for a great way to keep people playing and enjoying it.
Please, update the T1 Connie and let us RA/VA's enjoy it too!
/begin snark/ They did update it. It is called the "Sovereign." /end snark/
Seriously though, The idea of any original series craft, being more robust than the Galaxy Class is laughable at best.
The best compromise I can see as being even partially feasible would be an original series inspired "Federation-class" dreadnought, or some sort of Original Series era-accurate heavy-battle cruiser class.
And I'm saying this as one of the people who shilled out almost $20 USD for the original series value pack.
And when I am on any of my connies, at low level, I will enjoy such scenery untill I get promoted into a newer, and more advanced vessel.

The short answer to that question is essentially to make ship viability based in equipment.
Add new console slots for interior "consoles" like Reinforced Bulkheads, Emergency Force Fields, and the like to increase ship hit points? What about weapon / BOff / console / device slots? How could those be increased as we level? X number of each per Y number of levels? "Buy" them with points? Craft them? Lay it on us, man.

Well, I was waiting mostly to do up some artwork and make a full on thread about it, but ok, briefly:
The basics are that each ship has three main things that will drive its relative position to other ships on the "tier" scale. They are space, power, and power utilization. Space is controlled by the size of the ship, power by the warp core, and utilization by the style of the ship. That last one is so that escorts don't get shafted, as they will have very high utilization. It will essentially dictate how much of the maximum output of your warp core you can get to your systems.
The space part essentially works like consoles do now, you can put as much of them inside the space as you can fit, and that's where your weapons go. Each thing will have a power requirement, and if you exceed the maximum you can get out of the ship, then they will progressively become debuffed. So, say I fill all of my space with phasers and blow way beyond my power generation. My phasers will be all but useless because I couldn't power them all. But if I'm more conservative and only add a second shield generator, maybe I get 2x stronger shields.
There are six systems that are static and must be on each ship: hull (alloy), shields, warp core, impulse drive, sensors, and deflector. They'd work almost identically to how they do now, only sensors would determine when you get target lock to fire and your warp core obviously dictates maximum power generation. Getting a newer, better hull alloy may also get you more space. And except for the warp core/impulse drive, they'd all have some power drain.
Every system would have crafting stuff that could go with it, and certain subsystems (to replace "consoles") would potentially buff things like utilization or space. There would be BO/crew buffs as well, but you get the gist.
Would that system not allow for a Connie to be blowing up Sovereigns?
Which you seem to be against?
Not really. The Sovereign would have too much of an advantage. She would have a bigger warp core, a much higher starting power utilization, and just plain more room for weapons and buffs. You would have to seriously work to get a TOSC strong enough to start hurting a Sovereign.
It would, however, give you the ability to push the TOSC pretty deep in the game if you were serious about it.

So, there would be limits to how far you can push a ship?

Isn't that just a different Tier system?
Any system that is consistent with both a natural progression and the setting will have some form of "tiers." This one is much more flexible about it, if for no other reason than you can add more weapons.

This is kinda why I wanted to have artwork to go with this.
No, you wouldn't refit the ship, at least not in the way I think you're thinking. You're going to find/craft stuff and put it in the ship. There's no overall "refit me to next tier" setup.

What I mean is, would it have a preset amount of slots or would you add more on?
Because if it is preset, it is essentially a new Tier system.
If it automatically adds more, its a leveling ship.
If you work to add more slots, its refitting it.
My point was, what makes it so needed for them to abolish the current system and totally remake it when they could do one of the three above.

Why not make a holoemitter that only works on cruisers. The holoemitter can be of a Connie.
It has been rejected because then it "doesn't feel like a Conne."
Personally, that is my favorite suggestion.
Agreed, in fact maybe they could be slightly less effective.
