Since the team who made the TOS package are not making direct playable content (they are artists) they are making other stuff...fair enough... however in this case they could have worked on fixing the already present in game bridges, interiors, uniforms etc...which are all far to be perfect or even insulting(see the Intrepid bridge) But no they decided to make something bright and shiny available through the C store.( and i just can t remember that many players asking for TOS interiors prior to the official announcement)
It s call having priorities. Shall i remind you that Mr Stahl stated he had Sales goals...if he can t make them through Subs he s got to find other ways to reach them.
Here's the part about Cryptic's current mode of operation that bothers me. They probably will get around to fixing other interiors, but they aren't a priority because c-store things seem to take precedence, and in the end you will probably need to buy a new bonus pack in the c-store to enjoy the new 'fixed' interiors. Next Gen ship interiors pack anyone?
Other than Sector Space, I haven't seen any fundamental changes to the game either.
There have been new missions that are better than the old missions, but there is still nothing approaching an immersive, interactive game world to be had. So, while things have improved, based on the progress they have made, there's at least another year before they get to where the game should have been at launch, in my opinion.
Actually I am not loaded financially, and do not support the c-store. And I have a lifetime account.
After that let down of a ship called the Galaxy X, I have 1050 cstore points I will not use in the foreseeable future nor will I be adding to that balance any time soon.
Burn me once, shame on you....a second time and it would be all my fault.

Uh... I can understand not buying more but is there a good reason not to spend the ones you have?

Yes the game has improved a lot...well it would have been difficult to make it worst... furthermore beside few exceptions like the Featured episodes they basically fixed or finished what was broken at launch... now they are going to revamp few things since they realized the game came out with poorly thought and designed game mechanics...
I know i m harsh but i can t just accept mediocrity and cash cow milking all at once... we are back to an old subject about fast, cheap and good... unfortunately Cryptic did not pick good...now we are paying them to make it slightly better. for the amount of time i ve played this game i could have waited for another 2 years of development it would have been about the same.

PvP queue was changed (for the better; remember the old "list")
Crafting was changed for the better (used to be completely unstructured; now there are both useful items while leveling as well as end-game, a new UI, and tutorials)
I'm still surprised people don't count content as improvements

I'm still surprised people don't count content as improvements
Well, there are a few reasons for that.
First of all, is the aforementioned state of the game at launch, which I think everyone can agree was less than stellar. That means that content being added is just to catch up, and so it doesn't really feel like an improvement. If you're twice as far behind, you need to work three times as hard.
Secondly, content updates and bug fixes are par for the course. That's what the sub fee is for. If they're not coming out, then the game is not even meeting its basic obligations.
Thirdly, as I said, the fundamental underlying issues remain open, such as exploration. I'm sure you're aware of them so I don't think it's necessary to list them, but if I did I would expect this post would take up half a page.
So yeah, they still have a long way to go before the routine stuff starts to become the major improvements, in my opinion. That doesn't mean they won't get there. If I didn't hold out some hope they could, I wouldn't hang around here at all. And if they do, they're going to have another happy customer who will be glad to pat them on the back for it.
Uh... I can understand not buying more but is there a good reason not to spend the ones you have?
Because I am certain they track cstore purchases and possibly use that data in deciding to
spend additional resources developing content slated for release via the cstore.
What an entertainingly convoluted justification. It reminds me of how some people were saying that Cryptic shouldn't bother honoring the STO-related commitments it sold to CO lifers because they were 'just bonuses'.
Are you in Marketing by any chance?
I'm not sure whats convoluted about it. The cash store in STO or most other MMO's isn't a game, the TCG is. That's the difference in a nutshell.
What you purchase are decks of cards. You absolutely need them to play the TCG game. That's why it's called TCG (Trading Card Game). The "loot" items are free. You can't purchase "loot" items in any way.
TCG is also a free standing game that doesn't even need SWG to play. Simply because A game gives items for another game, doesn't make it a cash store.
And again I'll mention that every player gets 10 free packs a month included in the monthly sub to try and obtain those items. So, not only do sub players get the free packs but the game itself is free.
So, for the standard sub price you get SWG and TCG (again, a complete game on its own) as well as 100% of the content created for SWG.
Isn't that what people on STO want? The ability to obtain 100% of the content items in the game in one way or another without having to pay beyond the sub price? STO has been moving in that direction but obviously the system still needs tweeks or we wouldn't have so many negative posts about it.
Nor am i loaded but having my tax return in hand and bills caught up, i saw a chance to be done with the monthly payment, wich BTW = $400 give or take U.S. a year was on sale for $239. so at half a year i think it pays for itself. even if i do buy fluff from the c-store.
Becuase now i don't have to choose internet and rent or rent and a monthly sub that i f i don't pay the net bill i still can't use, but if i pay the net bill what is it realy good for if i have nothing to play?

I think STO has a clever launch time-of-year (even if it was launched early).
not my problem and stop defending them, it might not bother you, and that is fine, but for us that feel spending the full price on a game, $50, and THEN a monthly subscription, ERRRRR WRONG
this is NOT cool, and not our problem, and the other guy is right, you will lose a signiificant amount of players because we'd rather spend that money on a game where we dont have to buy ships with US CURRENCY!
As the a person mentioned in a earlier post which is a good point. If the funds from c-store items fund content for the game. Where is it? I think the content dropped off to almost nothing since they started making the featured episodes.

Wait.. .so the featured episodes does not count as content?
Wait.. .so the featured episodes does not count as content?
So c-store funded fifteen quest in five months, not counting the dailies. I don't think thats very much content to be proud of. Or that the c-store is helping produce very much for the game.
Haha. Cryptic just violated the... 1st amendment? freedom of speech. Im Australian, so not too familiar with the American constitution. Ours hasnt changed since Australia was first established. We have no freedom of speech.
Or, Perhaps to Continue to Pay the Weekly Salaries for those that are continuing to work hard for the company??
Except all the evidence suggests that they dont work hard. Assuming a development team of 15 (and I cant see how or why any company would attempt STO with less then that), what we have gotten indicates that the development team are lazier then any EA development team.
Assuming half that number, and I am mildly impressed by how much they have released. However, that doesnt change the fact that ANYONE knows that you should fix what is in the game now rather then release new stuff all the time.
...
TRIBBLE. Sorry for the double post.
Worth mentioning, however, that they seem to be attempting to get at least 2 seasons a year. the EVE Online development team, which appears to be significantly larger development team, with a significantly more complex game, have only just started failing at getting 2 expansions per year released. Cryptic cant compete with that.
Look, if y'all are so angry about having to pay, then don't play or buy any stuff. I'm not rich, I saved my money up. And I budget myself day to day so I don't have an outrageous credit card bill, so a few micro transactions don't bother me. I love the fact I can buy a new awesome cool ship when it comes out. If I want it, I'll throw down a few bucks for it.
If it helps Cryptic fund the game, then I'm willing to help out. If you're too much of a baby to accept all this, then go cry in the corner. Nothing is free in this world, you all want something for nothing. Ya, well this is the real world and that doesn't happen.

Fully agree with ya I am the same way I work hard for my money and it isn't a lot but i don't mind paying a few dollars for something i want.

WHAT????? This game has improved by leaps and bounds IMHO.
Agreed, its getting there and has gotten much better, but there's still lots to do though!
Hhmm, I wasn't against the C-store before... But that is a good point. . . .

It's an MMO, remember? Content is a given. hence the sub fee.
Content that only now resembles a level that should have been present at launch is most definitively
not an improvement.
My human brain still thinks that stuff-as-part-of-the-subscription fee can also be an improvement.
It's not like being part of the fee doesn't make the game better - the terms aren't mutually exclusive.

I am playing this other new mmo that is having "special week" and new mounts/items come out during it!!
And it's free.
Becuase now i don't have to choose internet and rent or rent and a monthly sub that i f i don't pay the net bill i still can't use, but if i pay the net bill what is it realy good for if i have nothing to play?

Who releases games right after tax returns?

Cryptic is hilariously understaffed to create all the content STO deserves.
Aye, so true.
right i hope this will change
Wait.. .so the featured episodes does not count as content?

Probably too true to be funny.....
