If the C-Store did not exist, then odds are you would most likely NEVER see any of this stuff in STO at all.

None of these items are "needed" in game, they are pure fluff. The money generated from the C-Store is used to fund new content. If you can't understand this then don't buy anything from the C-Store, no one is forcing you.

not my problem and stop defending them, it might not bother you, and that is fine, but for us that feel spending the full price on a game, $50, and THEN a monthly subscription, ERRRRR WRONG

this is NOT cool, and not our problem, and the other guy is right, you will lose a signiificant amount of players because we'd rather spend that money on a game where we dont have to buy ships with US CURRENCY!

price of subs hasn't increased in a decade but the cost of labor, electricity and such has skyrocketted.
You don't need the stuff in the c store. They are mostly junk. Emote pack? Really?
It is a way to supplement thier income to give us better stuff.

You do realise that all but one T5 ships can be obtained without spending one cent right?

Does that included finishing a game that was half-built when it was released?

    B/c I haven't seen too much progress.

ya and alll these "Career officers" who spent like 300 bucks *laugh* for full time subscription, are either 1. loaded financially, or 2. defending the fact that they spent 300 bucks on a cryptic game, they obviously haven't played a cryptic game before rofl

If this game makes it to October, then I'm playing for free. It's called an investment. And no, I'm not loaded. I saved my money knowing the purchase was coming.

Actually I am not loaded financially, and do not support the c-store. And I have a lifetime account.

$300 for a life time sub....thats one 8 hour shift for a lot of people.

TOS bundle pack, 1400 Tokens, thats less than $20.....thats an hour at work.

Life time sub + TOS bundle pack = less than 20% of a week's pay

Go to college, get an education, get a job, enjoy STO!

i'm unemployed, have a lifetime sub to STO and CO and was a big fan of CoX as well. that kinda puts your comments in perspective i think..

you've stated your opinion, thats fine.. but dont attack others for stating their own because its counter to your own.

micro-transaction stores are the way the MMO game industry is going, much like a while ago when they started bringing out expansions to MMO's. back then people complained about having to pay again for a game they've already paid for and subbed to.

if you're not happy with a cash store in a subbed game, maybe you shouldnt play MMO's any more, as any that dont have one now i can bet are planning one as soon as they can.

That may not be entirely true. There is more competition for companies to buy the broadband now. The cost of equipment has went down you can do a lot more with less equipment than ten years ago. Micro chips almost double in performance every few years. Many more companies sell the equipment. The software now compared to ten years ago is much more efficient. Taking less people and less time to do more work.

They make more money but no one on these boards know how much goes back into the game or in the share holders pocket.

I'm out of toilet paper, I need to have my butler call the bank for another roll of Benjamins.

It was a cost analysis thing, I added up what I spent on 10 years of EQ and later on the package deal for sony for SWG EQ2 and all the sony games for 2 accounts and said hey $240 bucks is a great deal.

None of the above. I am a huge Star Trek, I purchased a regular sub and once I realized I would be playing this game for a very long time I purchased the lifetime. Like other thoughtful people on this thread, I realized the advantage of such an investment.

this is not the case, it has been said by stahl, that the cstore in most cases just makes something come faster, that most things in c store were probably going to make it in game, but that being able to post them on the c store bumped them up a year or more on the priority list....

im not going to get into weather or not the c store sucks or not, and anyone who has seen my posts knows where i stand...

just figured i would correct this innacurate statement i have been seeing as of late....

i dont buy into this,, they have the smallest dev team out there, and rift just went live ( a fully completed game at launch) and has half the problems sto did on release... (im not sure of their dev team size), but they operate on a monthly subscription bases with no sign of micro transactions in the forseable future...

tell me, how does one gaming company make a game that has so much direct competition and survive off the subscripts, but star trek with its own unique fallower base, and no real competition can not survive with half the dev team....

the answer is simply greed.... one thing that is killing star trek online is that cbs, cryptic, and atari all want money from it... there are too many hands in the cookie jar, so we the "consumer" get screwed on a game that is far inferior to most other games otu there already....

i have not logged into the game in weeks, and dont really plan too as there is nothing to do.... one would think they wouldput all their resources into this dilema, rather than making a useless tos bundle pack lol....

Sounds like someone wants the new tos bundle , but doesn't want it in the c store. but fails to realize that if it wasn't in the c store it wouldn't even exist .

How do you come to this conclusion?

Thats like saying if you dont buy the 6 items in Blizzards micro transaction store, you will never see another expansion.

There is always the chance that if the Devs saw the STO community was not supporting a micro-transaction model, they would realize they need to change their model to a more traditional, expansion based architecture.

Of course they want C-store, they know that people today 1) dont want to wait for anything, and 2) people forget or just don't admit, they pay more for a micro model then an expansion.

ummm wrong on so many levels lol...

i feel that they should stop bringning things from a different time line into the game.. (its not very fung shui) and i feel it is a waste of development hours... it would be one thing if the dev team had released and maintained the perfect game, and were sitting around with nothing to do, however, this game lacksa few things...

    1. we are supposed to be at war, and so far, since i hit commander, i do not feel i am in a klingon war anymore...
    2. we are 30 into the future from the movie nemesis, the last i checked, tos was 200 years in the past from nemesis ( im not saying that tos stuff doesnt have a nestalgic place, but its not the time to be making fluff when a game does not have anouph content to keep people subbed).
    3. there is no endgame whatsoever... im not even going to get into this here as i have in other threads...
    4. the dev team seems to be releasing far more c store stuff than ingame material... (i,e. we still dont have the foundry (which was supposed to be the meat and potatos of season 3..Laughable... the hiv is still not released, but dont worry, you can get open jacket uniforms... were not going to see another featured episode until well after season 4 but make way for the mighty oberth class... everyone is joking about the big content drought, but thank god we have a tos bundle pack..... i can go on forever.. lol... however im needed outside, so i will continue possibly later...

i might pick it up, i might not, i am undecided, however, im not mad its on the c store, i believe that this kind of thing belongs on the c store... however, my beef is that it is inappropriate at this time to be making c store items.... mainly because the real life game is suffering due to a lack of content.. that is all..

theoreticaly we've had 3 free expansions already, and the next one will be free to. so yeh all c-store stuff costs more than expansions.

the drednought is delebratly overpriced as it's ment to be a rectuter reward, ok so the nausican one takes the buiscuit a little, but just do what i did, dont buy it.

If you consider what weve gotten as expansions,

Then what new zones have we gotten?

What new races have we gotten with their own story arcs?

What new classes have we gotten?

    What new skill sets?

Do i really need to point out the difference of what we have gotten compared to a expansion?

    new zones... borg breen undine

new races... loads of c store but the races arnt rly improtant theres atleast 8 free ones anyway and 6 klingon ones

classes? seriously we have 3 that are the main canon roles do you need more

skill sets... all the 5th box along powers, carriers, even the scanner was not in at launch

so compared to launch we've had more new content and visual improvement than any other game i've seen, and the more money the game makes the more atari spends on it so it gets better, it's a business.

the c-store is fluff for fans with cash to burn
