If you want to play to be competitive or efficient, then the handful number of cookie-cutter builds is what you need to adhere to, in order to be competitive or efficient.

If you want to re-evaluate what it means to be competitive or efficient, then you need to ask yourself why you are playing a Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) game. If you want to play to have fun, today, most of the content is centered around having the best gears. End-game instances are balanced for people with insane gears.

Many of the things you listed are builds that are both horrible and moderately decent in PvE, by no means competitive or efficient. There is no way an Arcane Archer will ever work.

I dont encourage experimentation if you are unwilling to spend the money to correct it when it doesn't work out. Remember this is a FREE TO PLAY game, and many users wont be spending a dime. People who have gone through the game before and have experienced all end-game content share their experiences so that others don't make the same mistakes, or know what is ahead. When you tell them they shouldn't listen its like ignoring your mommy and daddy tell you not to play with fire.

Thus I dont particularly like it when people make suggestions or argue on behalf of a particular build that will cost lots of time and money to fix when they find out its issues.

So you'd compare having r9 to having a car? Hah. No... a car and a decent amount of clothes are less comparable to r9, and more comparable to walking around the overworld without a weapon, killing everything unarmed. You can do it, but life's gonna be a hell of a lot harder for it. If r9 were a car, it'd be the sports car that nobody needs and that basically exists as a cry for attention from its owner.

LOL... really? Thats what you are going with. There is a reason that I did not buy a tata nano... other then that its a death trap. I'll get laughed at whenever I take that out for a spin.

I tend to buy the best I can resonantly afford. Regardless if its the car that I drive... or pixels in game. Its also why there will be a 800 dollar phone waiting for me when I get back from work today... instead of out dated moto razr (that i had 7-8? years ago). They both fulfill the purpose of a phone... and yet I op for something that cost 10x more. For those who can afford better... do buy better. And I am guarantee you this... I don't need any attention from you in game or out.

I can guarantee you all those people I mentioned are having just as much fun with the game as you or me or Kiyoshi. :P I think you're making blood_rain's mistake in assuming that all newbies automatically want to be "the best," or that not being "the best" somehow ruins their fun to the point of self-harm (as you put it, playing with fire :P). A good portion of newbies genuinely just want to experience endgame content on a casual basis and then move on from there (either to alts, or to other games, etc.). And what are they told? Go r8. It's competitive. What if they don't want to be competitive?

You don't see me posting in threads like "Weak" or "How can I overkill 5 APS?" (which are both active on page 1 of this board right now, among others). That's because the OPs of those threads clearly want to hear about competitive builds and tactics, and therefore my opinion won't be of much relevance. Rather, you'll see me more often making posts like, say, this one. Here, I was replying to a person who doesn't have a "pro build" and hadn't expressed any serious designs as to obtaining one. So to me, that's a blank slate. But to most of the other posters here, it's a flashing neon sign reading CAN U MAEK ME BE PRO PLOX??

If you're going to assume my build says "I like to fail," then I can assume yours says "I pathetically crave attention." Or, y'know, we could just not assume things. That would be nice.

Either way, none of this means we should tell the newbies "hey, go out and buy r8 or you fail." There are plenty of examples of people who did not spend extravagantly just because they had wealth. Are you telling me all those people are idiots? Because I think we have enough blatant consumerism in the world.

Oh, naturally. It's just, y'know, completely misinterpreting what it says isn't so much "speaking your mind" as it is making whatever assumptions fit your opinion best. Your genie comment is another shining example of this - I happen to have two genies that I use extensively for different purposes, and am working on a third. You could've easily seen one of them the other day if you'd have bothered to actually look at my gear rather than just nerdrage at the sight of my citrine. But no, that's too much work, let's just extrapolate from that citrine and say that Miug has 300 magic, disavows bows, molests small animals and worships satan.

That's what they call politician logic. >_>

You really are a tool, if you're pointing out inaccuracies in my scathing sardonic remarks as if I actually tried to be accurate with them and then going off to make the same generalizations about others.

Even my buffer has more skills on her genie than holy path. I obviously wouldn't HONESTLY think you only have 1 skill on your genie. You really couldn't figure that out? And not only that you had to CORRECT my statement and say oh not only do I have more than one skill I have TWO GENIES. OH MY EFFING GOD.

It's incredibly pompous of you to think you can make attempts at being smarmy and be totally serious and literal when other people are successful at it against you. Really, you take yourself too seriously. You act like people care that you are fail. We don't. It doesn't affect us in the least if you're fail, but we just think it's funny to make fun of you about it.

Also while we're on that topic of your sig, saying "you are trolled because I said so" does not make it true. It's a huge cop-out and everyone would realize it except for you.

Edit: Forgot to change my font
Edit2: Lol your use of the term 'nerdrage' is terribly inaccurate. Are you perhaps nerdraging about the way we like to make fun of your fail sharding and gear?

I am not sure I used the word "extravagant"... but I did use the phase "reasonably afford". There is reason that I am no longer following my college diet of ramen noodles and cheap pizza. I am going to get that porterhouse/sushi whenever I want... and not take dates to McDonalds. If eating out... whenever where-ever I want is extravagant... then I guess I am an extravagant type of a guy. The way I see it... if I can save 50% of my income... then I god damn am going to spend the other 50% on whatever I want. Personally... I refuse to skim by with the bare minimum... whether regarding my work/game efforts or my expenditures.

Personally, I play here because I have friends here.

And I have to wonder, given how you posed that question, if this is really such a strange concept for you?

Anyways, I totally understand the drive to have the biggest number. But, personally? Only one person in any context can have that biggest number, and I do not have much interest in living my life and treating my friends how I would have to to compete to be the person with that number.

But, ok, I get it -- you do not feel that people like me should be here.

But, I'm not really sure, if I have any good reasons to care about this feeling of yours?

Meanwhile, if you put just a slight amount of thought into that "end-game content" thing, you could probably figure out how to achieve most of it without insane gears. (Though, ok, to be fair, with not to much more thought you can also achieve some of those insane gears... still, this can takes time if you did not start out with a significant edge and time to maintain it.)

I don't think any of the r9/decent gear advocates here claimed that they are the absolute top of their class. I always rated myself as average... even during my peak competitive months where I am ranked in the single digits for archers in terms of tangible measurements (gear/damage).

Really? Muigue and I both started roughly three years ago. And look at where we are now. It's not a matter of time... its a matter of efficiency and possibility even intelligent. I achieved everything he achieved (other the levels) a whole TWO years ago.
