I just tried. Nope. None of the possible solutions above are working with the buff_str problem.
    Any updates?

Hmm.. with a clean install and all temp files cleared, it shouldn't be an issue with the game files themselves.

Can someone download HijackThis, run a scan and post the log file up for me?
    http://www.merijn.org/programs.php

PM it if you like. I'd like to see if there's any other software conflicts, browser hijacks etc.

uninstall the game, delete the folder and everything, its trying to download a corrupted part of the patch, just uninstall reinstall and it should patch just fine, its what I did and now I can play.

That's what I was hoping would happen! :)

But alas, it still doesn't work for everyone. Hopefully it'll get a few more people into the game though.

I've done that probably over 2 dozens times now.

    No dice.

Hi again everyone... I just tried the delete trick, didn't work. I've reinstalled several times, didn't work. Maybe someone with the game up and running could host the updated elements.data and tasks.data files?

I got a better idea. How about Admin just put up the patch in the forums or website, then we will download and update by ourself. In the option download have " Manual " right? I play this game in Vietnam already and they have same problem like this.

Yes but the Admins would rather like to get the problem fixed so they don't have to release a manual patch every time. I play the PH and MY versions and I've never had this problem before.

Well i dont really see what the big deal is about releasing a manual patch you just throw some files into a zip file and host it. MY-EN has automatic updates and manual patch downloads and the patch they released a few days ago was 100mb but they still hosted a manual download link ;)

Well, at least they have something definite to look at! :) Hopefully it will help them figure something out faster...

Yeah, I know! It's probably because it's one of the main threads with the most information on this bug, so the Admins are paying it plenty of attention. Everyone, good luck and keep at it! :)

If they won't provide us with a manual patch and keep avoiding the topic, the reason probably is because they want to solve the problem on the whole. I live in Washington, but a friend in Virginia downloaded the entire thing just fine. I'd like to know two things:

    1. Where is the patch server located, stateside? Distance compromises speed. (Also, the website, the patch server, and the game run on likely three different servers with similiar names. x3)

    2. What files are in the patch? If I can get a list, I'll just have my friend in Viriginia send me those files, I'll stick them where they need to be, and then see if that works. It's worth a try. So far I know these are in the patch: elements.data, tasks.data, buff_str.txt, and skillstr.txt. I only know this much information because people tend to get stuck on those.

This is odd, the client closed down when trying to patch. I canceled auto patch when it opened, click start and it shut down.

Well for what it's worth - I'm in Virginia and unable to patch on 1 PC while the other patches just fine without a problem. If I move the patched files over to the other PC and attempt to login I get a 'cannot connect to sever' error..

A few people have got the game to work by using the "Verify" button a couple times... personally, I haven't got it to complete a verification even once. :/

Same here. It freezes and does a similar thing with the patching when doing a verify. It can't get past a certain file.....something cmd.txt i think.

A while back the admins were talking about it being a potential problem with our computers not having any asian fonts? I can understand this. I wish they'd get back to us on that and try and help us get our hands a font that the computer can read the rare few files that are still in Malaysian... If its looking for a file with chinese symbols as its name, it will find one that has blocks instead, if our computers can't read them, right? The only remotely asian font I have on my computer is Batang. @_@

    And still no luck patching.

Oh, about that, right when I open the patcher, for a split second the first thing it loads is a file named in Chinese... it ends in .bat, I think. ?_?

Well if you downloaded the client from the same site on both computers then your problem sounds like it has to do with your firewall. You connect at least two times to there servers to get into the game. The first time is when you have to patch. When you patch you have to connect to the patch server and for some reason at one part of the patch your firewall blocks it. When you transferred the patch file over manually you manually patched the game so the next time you start the client your up to date and you skip the connect to the patch server. The next time you have to connect to there servers is when you log in which you can't. Since your other computer can patch just fine and if both the clients came from the same place there is no way its not something to do with your computer.

Would one of these computer happen to be a laptop and the other desktop or one vista and one XP?

    Can you figure it out.
