  • Thanks for the data! I had some luck treating it as a (percentage point) bonus to DR calculated as a function of Defense. Specifically, the following equation seems to describe how it works at rank 3. y = (0.07498045*x)/(1722.055 + x) Here, y is the amount you add to your DR, and x is your Defense score. So, for example,…
  • That's interesting. Would you be willing to post the numbers? I'd like to poke at it a bit. Mostly to check the possibility that it might be a second, multiplicative layer of damage reduction, and to compare to the old MMO standby formula of 1/(1+ax).
  • Well, I just did a very informal test. I was on Live server (the only one I have access to), I stripped enough gear to get my AC down to 10, took off that pesky Escalating Defense ring, and went to the tower district (where I figured enemies would have little Armor Penetration). When my Character Sheet said 6% DR, the Axe…
  • The part about lacking qualification was directed at using direct quotations from legal documents, which one of the posters did. As for knowing about someone's background, that same poster also made comments suggesting he had no legal expertise. Now, for thinking that you and this other poster were one and the same person,…
  • Items in Terms of Service are routinely unenforceable, but putting such things in is not illegal. Companies face no repercussions for putting things in the Terms of Service that they know will never hold up. That's why they do it. It's a completely risk-free way to bluff/intimidate people. Maybe these particular Terms of…
  • Oh, well if monsters are on the table, I've got lots of ideas. * Bag of Devouring: Monster that pretends to be a bag of holding. * Cloaker: Monster that pretends to be a cloak. * Death Linen: Monster that pretends to be a pillow or blanket. * Genius Loci: Monster that pretends to be a massive section of landscape. * Hoard…
  • All thanks to good ol' Draco, the first ruler in history to actually write down laws and tell people what they were. It's actually pretty common for companies to write things into these agreements that hey know don't have a snowballs chance in hell of being upheld in court. The reason being, of course, that most people…
  • I'm not completely sure of the laws here in the US. I think that as long as there's no cash payout, it doesn't fall under any of our gambling laws. Heck, there are claw machines here filled with iPods and stuff. And all claw machines are set to only be winnable a fraction of the time according to an inner random number…
  • Well, I've really been slacking off on Astral Diamond generation, so I'm only at 2 lesser bondings on my companion. I considered skipping straight to normal bondings, but I was impatient. (Not impatient enough to buckle down and earn some Astral Diamonds though.) I've been doing a better (but not outstanding) job of…
  • All right, now, I'm a pretty new player, so my input might not be well considered. But, it does strike me as silly that augment companions, whose sole function is to boost player stats, are worse at that than normal companions. It seems like something aught to be done about that. Could augment companions somehow be altered…
  • What I mean is, if I use Threatening Rush, and Mark two or more enemies as a result of that single power activation, which one is considered “most recent” for purposes of determining my Mark Focus? All the enemies who got Marked from that one use of Threatening Rush should tie for “most recent,” so how does the game decide?
  • You know, silly little things like “population data” claim that about 51% of births are males. But I can refute that with something far more compelling than any amount of “statistics,” a single anecdote. You see, in my Boy Scout troop of only about 20 people, fully two of those people came from a family of 7 boys and no…

  • Maybe they could log each success and failure to an internal database? That seems like the easiest way to check.

  • Erm, going from 85% DR to 95% DR is tippling your effective hit points. (Discounting the DR cap.) Going from 20% DR to 60% DR is only doubling your effective hit points. That's kind of why I'm so gung-ho on Defense. Every point is worth more than the last. You hardly ever see accelerating returns in these games. I mean, if…
  • Well, I was slacking off, so it took four days instead of three, but I got the Drowned Longsword. I went with Tide of Iron, like you said. I joined a guild too, so now my Resistance Ignored is up to -48.8%. Getting closer. My Life Steal Chance jumped up to14.6% too. Which is nice, but might be bad eventually too.…
  • Really sorry about all those extra posts. When my posts kept not going through, I kept trying. I didn't really expect all of them to show up the next day. Is there a way to delete posts? I deleted the contents of each one, but they're still kind of cluttering things up. Anyway, I bought the Drowned Shield. I went with the…
  • Hello, your guild sounds interesting. But do you offer the boon Armor Penetration? How about for either Defense or Life Steal? If so, at what level? I'm hoping for a guild that will directly shore up some of my terrible stats.
  • Hey! Thanks for the reply! I've got a few questions on your answers though. Well, that certainly sounds better than running those same heroic encounters over and over. I didn't even realize they were bind on equip, instead of bind on pickup. Okay, so, should I be looking into healer companions, DPS companions, or what? I…
  • Maybe, each time you open the chest, it could give you a token? And, somewhere, there's a shop that sells all the items that chest can drop, for the right number of tokens? Alternately, what if there was an option when you've seen what you got that lets you reroll the result by spending zen? Of course, it would have to be…
  • You probably meant that as a joke, but …
  • Nice to know I'm not the only one.
  • Is the sparkly trail broken for all your quests, or just the one? You can check by manually making a different quest primary.
  • So, I see you give a “situational” recommendation to Shield Warrior's Wrath, but no mention of Trample the Fallen. Is there a practical difference between the two? As far as I can tell, both of them give +20% damage pretty much all the time for this build.
  • Well, I didn't get a Priestess of Sune or an Acolyte of Kelemvor, which are the only things I cared about.
  • No, that's how the tiefling race should look. Or maybe like this: If you want an anime-bishonen version of dragonborn, you should ditch the horns and add some more scales. Horns on an otherwise mostly-normal person have too strong an association with demons. And plenty of depictions of dragons lack horns. So, really, the…
  • Shoot. Well, thanks for the answer.
