Conduct of Ice an Singularity don't proc smolder as often as before patch (in fact, COI don't proc smolder at all with Directed Flames on). Use FTF and Immolation instead if you're running a Directed flames build (which is far better for aoe damage than Rimefire Weaving: more dps and AP gain).
Yes, directed flames is still a big mess. The proc of rimefire smolder is chaotic and its crit rate is too low. Imo the easiest way to fix it is to roll back this feat to its mod 16 version (proc was much cleaner than in mod 17) and to adjust the magnitude if the dps of smolder is considered too high, instead of putting a…
There's something annoying with thauamturge's directed flames build in 1v1. The only way to add smolder almost every second is Critical Conflagration. Chilling advantage, Icy Veins fail to trigger rimefire smolder reliably. But using Critical Conflagration has an annoying drawback: for any reason, it reduces the crit rate…
Besides being bugged (see 2 posts before), Chilling Advantage as a feat doesn't make sense since adding rimefire smolder on foes is already automatic by adding smolder before or using critical conflagration. So it's very weak compared to its alternative, Shatter Strike which is a solid source of dps based on cc and chill…
With Directed flames, Chilling advantage and critical conflagration on, fire spells add smolder AND rimefire smolder. Icy veins is off. Arcane spells add rimefire smolder instead of normal smolder with same feats/features.
Here another example of Directed Flames behavour with Icy terrain used afer a cast of scorching burst (1 target, critical conflagration off, chilling advantage off). Rimefire Smolder should tick every second (as terrain does) but does only once.
Also with Directed Flames on, the Chilling Advantage feat is bugged. When casting cold spell, Rimefire Smolder is added, but only once every 2 sec (chilling cloud) or even 4 sec (ray of frost).
Smolder and rimefire smolder are still bugged on preview when Directed Flames is on. Fire spells trigger smolder every second as intended, but critical conflagration often doesn't. Same issue with rimefire smolder, which isn't trigger as it should with or without critical conflagration.
Hi, I wish to report that Directed Flames feat is bugged, on both preview and live : it only hit once, whatever spell you cast after. Rimefire smolder hits sometimes only once, sometimes more, maybe depending on chill stacks reinitialization. Anyway the 1s (preview) or 12s (live) cooldowns don't work. Moreover, if smolder…
In parties, especially in trials (10 people), for single target, arcanist is obviously way better than thaumaturge. Why ? Because the arcanitst will use Arcane Empowerment daily and become a machine gun under steroids while all artifacts/mounts buffs are up. The thaumaturge can't use this 10 sec buff as effectively, since…
Update about the stuck bug (thank you Tenebrae): It seems the bug has changed. Now when you get stuck, you can't cast encounters neither (cd is reset but nothing happens). When dashing, it's possible again to move and to use encounter, but as soon as you cast one, the bug occures again. Relog is the only way to get rid of…
Repel on mastery does absolutely nothing to cc immune targets. Some cold spells like chill strike, icy rays and ice knife have to be triggered several times (especially in trials) to work. Maybe it's network issue, maybe because of cast time/animation. Icy rays (thaumaturge) is able to proc several stacks (2 to 4) of the…
5) Removal of non-sense feats: chilling advantage and directed flames in their current form. 6) type of magic: there should be fully differentiated kinds of spells for each path, meaning no more common spells for both paths. Arcane+lightning or only arcane for the arcanist, cold+fire for the thaumaturge. Arcane stacking…
Wizards have many problems, not only because of a lack of damage potential but mainly because of an odd class design. 1) control spells: they are far too many, cold spells should be favored control spells. They should have lower magnitudes/dps than pure damaging spells. 2) aoe: wizard has no aoe encounters at lower levels.…
Anyway, weapon set from any new trial should be obviously bis, in the same way that the Band of Air rules them all. And nerfing the mirage weapons to make others look better isn't a good solution.
Some classes have more encounters (rangers, wizards), clerics and paladins have encounters without cd, making the celestial-like trigger system is very unfair. Stamina based (lionheart) is unfair as well, since tanks consume stamina much more than other classes. I think the best system is based on how many people in party…
The point is, that control powers trigger Shatter Strike on cc immunes, which is substancial source of dps for them. I tried all other control spells on cc immune dummy, even shield/pulse, they work fine.
I tested most of other oae powers (mastery or not) on cc immune targets, they seem to work properly and to trigger Shatter Strike in the case of Thaumaturge.
The cast time reduction of Fireball and Steal time are much welcome, the wizard was very slow for aoe trash. But the result is a bit odd for Steal Time. The animation used to last 2-3 seconds, now it's about 1 with the same visual, giving the impression that the toon is sneezing. The replacement of Imprisonment for Arcane…
@rjc9000 I agree on everything. You often points out that mechanics and gameplay that worked good before mod 16, were uncompatible with the big class overhaul philosphy, I think this is the main issue. The cw was cut in 2, resulting in 2 flavorless paths, both with different spells but same gameplay. Cast encounters, then…
Faster cast means faster animation. Now Steal time looks like arcane sneeze. Most of arcanist changes aren't bad, but we're not arrived yet. Lightning bolt is still bugged and needs aiming. Magic missile and arcane bolt need higher magnitudes to compete ray of frost. I maintain than arcane empowerment daily is too…
I fianlly updated the guide. No big changes, the build remains exactly the same. The magnitudes are now up-to-date. I also tried to make the stacking mechanics more clear for the beginners.
