Maybe I'm wrong but I also thought remove like hiddenfate, after reading the letter...

Before Shadowmantle you could refine (I know it wasn't called refining :) ) everything for free, or you could drop in some wards if you felt it's better for the chances.

After Shadowmantle went live, refining became a massive AD sink with mandatory Potencies. It generated lots of feedbacks, at least 2 threads (one of them was linked in the State of the Game letter as well), and some discussions.

Then came the letter with the sentence, they will remove the AD cost of refinement. It seemed obvious that it's ment the 25k and 100k mandatory marks... but maybe not.
    I'm just curious, that's why I asked :)

Before the refinement system went live. While it was still on the test server it functioned differently from now. Each sucessful upgrade had a hard fixed AD cost to it. This was in addition to all the new and needed reagents.

The higher the rank upgrade the higher the cost. In some cases several hundred thousand AD. So even if you farmed for all your reagents, there was still a completly unavoidable cost.

After the extremly vocal forum outcry, that cost was removed. The need for reagents still remained.

    Don't have the bag space???
Your SIXTY slot Riches/Event bag is nearly full??

I've got less than half (26/60) filled and I've done almost everything except a lot of PVP.

Eldarth - You are quite correct. I had forgotten just how big that particular bag is. My apologies to all for that one. I have plenty of space.

Still I'd like to get rid of these things at some time. I like to keep my bags lean and mean or at least somewhat managed.

To be honest - I pretty much agree with you -- I don't like (actually, I really, really dislike) having fifty different forms of "money."

There is a recent post (today or yesterday?) that says the trade of shower of light is actualy a "bug" and we shouldnt be able to do so (they are supose to automaticly open :P) so if they fix something, it will be the opening of ALL the shower when bought ;)

If that's true, then IMO it's a terribly mean and unholidayspirited move. Why wouldn't it occur to them that we'd want to give Showers of Lights away to our friends who haven't been able to earn enough lights on their own? I gave away lots of Fireblossom bundles (summer analogue to Shower of Lights) to other players in the Midsummer Festival to help people earn those last few petals for their pet piggy or flower-power weapon. Do they really need to eliminate the ability to do random acts of kindness like that?

    Yes. Obviously. Kindness is weakness!

has for the stars for next year... I have no idea, and probably nobody does (even if it would be possible next year, dosnt mean they wont change it in-between holidays) so I wouldnt count on that just to be certain! ;)
. . .I believe the post you're talking about is my post. If that is the case then that is by no means a display of how it is meant to be, only that what is happening has been reported as a bug. Nothing more, nothing less.

What is also needed is overnight/downtime activities like mass processing.

    Mass processing of Light Pods.

    Mass Processing of Light Motes

Mass processing to make Light Wine, small and large Citrines

    8-10 hours worth of processing

Trading extra shields/light rings for Fortune Stars

That makes me a happy nebula then, was wondering why I couldn't find anything to back that up.

I'm not on Preview, thanks for the info and the clarification.

So the original plan was 100k AD for the Potency, a ward to protect that 100k AD, in some cases an extra enchant / runestone as reagent, AND on top of that thousands of ADs? Wow that's harsh :)

+1, especially for the mass produced Light Wine.
And I agree that it'd be great to find some additional use of the shields / rings.

I DID IT. I had to wipe out three characters' AD savings, but I was finally able to AH-purchase a fawn for my DC, a fawn for my GF, spent my DC's lights on a dappled horse to give to my HR, and scarves for everyone. I am a super-happy nebula now. :D Now I get to have fun seeing if I can give away stuff with my leftover lights.

I recently acquired a Fawn Companion through your special Holyday Event.
Now, in general, I am quite pleased with The Fawnz, indeed, I splurged on a Blue Upgrade Package for it!
It does a fine job a keeping my Dwarf GF healed.
However, while adventuring through the Fens I have discovered one single glaring problem with this product.
    To Wit:
It is apparently entirely too delicious for it own good.
Groups of assorted Trolls and Gnomes are going to great lengths in their continued attempts to eat my Fawn, regularly swarming in from areas geographically separated from my current Combat by some distance.
Would it be possible to make my Fawn less delicious in some way? Perhaps with an unpleasant odor, or blinking red lights that spell out "Danger, Toxic Fawn, Do Not Eat"?
Or could it come equipped with at "Deliciousness" Slider, so we can decide for ourselves how delicious we want our Fawn to be? Maybe on a scale from 1 (Rat With Unidentified Forehead Growths) to 10 (Filet Mignon On The Hoof).
I look forward with great anticipation to any solutions to this vexing issue that you may implement in the Future.

    lights of smril...

I mean, right now it's 10 dugrace blue fish for 5 light. (and we're in the zenith !)
During the summer festival I spent hours picking flours but it was rewarding and more fun (with foes to kill etc) .
But this one is a festival during holiday season (when you're suppose to be with your family etc) I don't want to stay 9hours hitting "F" on the game every day to get a weapon skin...

+ dailies in sharandar ,+dailies in dread ring, + pvp daily, +dungeon daily, +foundry daily etc...

The 1 star of fortune for 220 lights is a huge boost but still... It's supposed to be a casual winter festival in a period of the year when you get presents etc... not an Hardcore new end game zone of farming o_o

This winter festival is HAMSTER and boring at best just because as usual they turn is into something for hardcore grinder.

    Really really bad decision !!!

anyway do what you want I've already decided to use your game as a temporary solution until next April 2014 mouhahahaha

    Loved the race.

The monster on ice is very fun playing with my CW, but with TR i could never get good scores cause spent most time running to enemies.

Didn't like fishing, though the skeletons and different lights added dynamic, I still felt bored.

    Hated the weapon transmutes.

    Loved the scenario.

Can't say if I find the prices fair cause didn't play it that much, was traveling.

If it's after global daily reset time but before the event ends and the servers are online, you should be able to.

Maintenance always falls during my workday, but my understanding is that events actually stay active until their scheduled end time, which is actually after the servers are due come back up, so when all goes as planned, there'll be a brief window where an event is still live post-maintenance and then it goes poof.

If there won't be an extra downtime or anything, then yes. Between the last daily reset and the end of the event there will be a 6 (or maybe 7?) hours window, that's plenty of time for just looking into the telescope.

All in all, I've enjoyed it. The rewards didn't interest me that much, though I did get mimics and the achievements for all of my characters. I still need to do a bit of grinding tonight to get a fawn. Otherwise, the events were pretty fun. Fishing was somewhat ruined by the fact that leveling up the crafting involved too much micromangment yet not having the better quality pole made running the daily quest a pain - given the frequency of 'fish got away,' various bags and the relentless skeleton onslaught. Even with a purple fishing pole, the skeletons were still the thing that marred the event for me. I got kicked out of first place last night when two anglers popped up one after the other. No complaints about the race. I could usually place in the silver if I tried but just wasn't consistent enough to win. That's not the festival's fault of course.

Monsters on Ice should have been the best part of the event, but the Seismic Shot bug made it frequently unplayable for me. And yes, it was easier with a ranged class, but I usually did well even with my GWF (Mighty Leap, Frontline Surge, Come and Get it), GF (FS again, Lunging Strike, Enforced Threat) and my Rogues, using Path of the Blade, Blitz and most importantly Deft Strike. The Whisperknife was slightly easier, tagging as many things as I could with Disheartening Strike gained me a fair number of points. Full points for goblins and partials for trolls and golems. The key was usually to get out of the starting area to avoid the ranged AOE and make small pulls.

Most of all, I'm going to miss the zone itself. All of my characters moved there for the duration of the event so as to be able to do the quests faster, plus the central fire had a merchant and a mailbox there and wasn't that far from the gate, which made it better than anywhere in PE.
