Patch Notes NW.1.20130416a.23

Combat
  • Fixed an issue where the Guardian Fighter was able to do significantly more damage than was intended.

PvP
  • Players will now be removed from PvP for being AFK.

Mail
  • Fixed an issue where mail appeared to duplicate itself when other mail was deleted.

Clarification: The change to Guardian Fighters is not a balance change and does not affect damage output for that class under normal circumstances. This fixes a very rare circumstance where damage would be calculated incorrectly to a significant degree. Most players have never experienced this, however, those who have know that it was significant enough to warrant a fix ASAP. Thanks to all the players who requested clarification on this!

    Yay! Good job, Cryptic. :)

I'm sure that you guys had a hard time covering this bug, considering how long it took to be fixed. Let's hope that you can adress the remaining exploits soon enough.
    Characters:
    - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer)
    - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur)
    - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC)
    - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)

Dang i didn't feel any more powerful with Guardian Fighter? There was really an issue where they were hitting harder? What triggered this?

There was a very specific bug where, under certain circumstances, damage would be increased to an amount exponentially higher than it should have been. It was not that all Guardian Fighters were doing more damage than intended - it was a very specific bug that happened under very specific circumstances. :)

We are looking into various solutions internally. We have a team of designers looking at game logs and determining what specifically can be done to ensure that the game remains fair and balanced. Thank you for voicing your concerns! Keeping the game fair is a high priority for us.

If they did it once, well they had a lucky day. If they did it a half a dozen times, then they should lose what they gained. If they exploited it to the points where made a fortune, they should get banned. My two cents ;-)

Please send them a message with some well deserved bans for abusing exploits. Maybe other people abusing exploits might reconsider destroying the game economy.

Excellent! You guys are on the right path, stay focused and keep going. It has been a very fun and very entertaining game. Have you guys become aware of the blessing bug in PvP? It happens sometimes to where my 1h cooldown to pray will reset every time I die and depending on the match that could mean 20 times or more. Sometimes about half of those times my ability to invoke resets. I know this was not intended so that's just one more. It doesn't persist when I leave the play area. Also, sometimes when you leave PvP you cannot leave the group without restarting the game. I'll keep looking for more, thank you again for an awesome game.

I'm glad to see this. Not only is the Foundry exploitation damaging the economy, it's also affecting other parts such as matchmaking for dungeon and skirmish queues. If people feel that they get better rewards from exploiting the foundry, that takes away from the amount of players willing to enter the queues.

It's to the point that Devoted Clerics and Guardian fighters are so rare that the matchmaker is sticking 5 dps characters together after searching for 40 minutes up to an hour and a half.

Oh and a playful suggestion.. Please reduce knock back skills on control wizards while in a party dungeon. Rather annoying when the party is trying to kill an enemy then its suddenly on the other side of the map.. over and over

Glad to be finally getting some developer feedback on these issues. In the future (if possible) a simple "We are aware of the issue and are looking into it." a little sooner would go a long way. The forums were/are a cesspool of posts on exploits and bugs (rightfully so in some cases...), and it certainly doesn't help bolster faith, or keep morale up in our fledging game when issues like these get out of hand.

I will end with a thank you for the replies, and keep up the good work. This game certainly has potential, I would hate to see it wasted.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend posting a bug report in the bug forums. The more detail you can include, the better! Also, it helps if other players reply back with additional info. We regularly sweep the forums for bugs and send them to the developers, so if you post a good report and it gets a lot of traffic, there's a good chance it will get picked up. Cheers!

Just a heads up, they do post that they know about what's wrong and what's reported quite frequently, they even go as far as to post on Facebook about the issues to try and spread the information to as many social formats as possible. I think they do a rather great job with feedback and addressing issues, way to go PW team! :)

While you are looking at keeping things "fair and balanced", perhaps you can look into those exploiting the "report spam" feature to silence other players and/or clarify what its intended function is, so as to put all the arguments to bed once and for all. Thank you for your quick response to the aforementioned issues.
