Merged your thread with the main one. I have also made contact with a dev (not someone in charge mind you, but one of the devs) to make sure they realize how bad this is. I am hoping they will say something by the end of today, but I'm not going to make promises.
Thanks @kreatyve I saw @asterdahl was active a little bit ago so hopefully he's also helping get the message to the right place (unless he's the dev you're referring to haha).
At this point, I believe that more important than getting some sort of fast response is getting a thoughtful one. Are they aware that they manner and timing of this communication was inexcusably poor? Or do they think that this is approach is just fine?
To be frank, it seems unfair to the volunteer mods that they behave this way. You get hit with a majority of angry and sometimes vile community outrage and are forced to defend decisions and a gameplan that you are not kept updated on. It seems like they deliberately blindside the community because they think you can pick up the pieces and soak up the hate. Is that characterization too dramatic?
Oh, I made it very clear that the communication was very poor. Honestly, it's what has me most upset. The change itself is upsetting, but not nearly as bad, to me, as accusing the majority of the player base of exploiting - again!
Thanks @kreatyve the post above show exactly what i'm feelin atm, is really nice to know tha Community Moderators think the same as most of us, is a pity that you guys have so little voice, i mean you guys are the developers ears and like is now for us looks like they are ignoring what they are hearing like a small child in bad mood...
Anyway really tks to you guys (moderators) and sorry for the rage burst you're facing, i hope that showing all this stuff to Devs you can be heard a bit more now and in the future !

@rafaelda We're all players, just like you. Our job here is to help manage the board so that players do get heard by the developers, and that there is a place where we can engage in civilized dialog on the game. But on the flip side, this is also something a lot of us are wildly passionate about, and we know when the blood gets up, things can go sideways.
We're not here to censor or hide feedback. Our job isn't to protect the developers from all the mean things players might say, or some pretty harsh feedback on these decisions.
Sure, stuff does get moderated.
Do we need people posting pictures of HAMSTER goosestepping while saluting Hitler, or planes flying into the World Trade Center on 9/11? No.
But do we feel like your chorus of rage needs to be heard? Absolutely.
Trust me, we're all keeping a close eye on this thread because it's our commitment as volunteers to this community. I've read every single word typed over these last 29 pages. Some of it was definitely cringing worthy, and there's a lot of stuff I wish the developers didn't have to read. But they should. And trust me, there isn't a single person on these forums who wants to see some sort of explanation or follow up more than your friendly neighborhood moderation team.
As time passes, the situation gets worse. Yesterday, my friendlist took a hit. Less people were online than usual, and one of the key players of my main "team" didn't log in in two days. It's someone I really enjoy playing with, and he was an important element in the completion of endgame content. More of the players I play with sometimes didn't log in during the last two days either. If they did it was just to invoke, probably by the force of habit.
So, what am I supposed to do? Since this announcement was made, this game feels like a sinking ship, and there's obviously no one at the helm to make decisions quickly enough to stop the disaster. Where's the lead designer? Where's the executive producer? They should have been posting as soon as this thread started to reach 20 pages. Because it means it's a pretty big deal. Do they like the spiral of negativity that's going on here? Do they want it to go even further? Where's the damage control? Where are the guys in power (not the community managers), don't they care about our feedback? Are they powerless to the point they can't make a decision in three days? Does no one at cryptic holds enough power to act quickly and tell us what's going to happen? Is the plan to stick to their guns?
You devs have broken the implicit contract you had with us by trying to monetize loot. None of us has ever been against the game being profitable; heck, none of my friends ever considered the game should be completely free, yet you managed to make them run away by breaking the contract we had with cryptic, ie what is monetized and how and what isn't. This is an extremely aggressive change and a deal breaker for many. So where's the captain of the ship, is he too afraid to meet the crowd?

Down towards the end is a sentence that might have some slight relevance to this discussion, all be it a pretty distant one:
@asterdahl Think of these bonus rewards like chest keys you can store a limited number of without using up any of your inventory space. An upcoming campaign blog will go into more details about the system.

@zebular why have you removed the permission to post images?
Metal, I believe posting from mobile may be your issue? Still plenty of images being posted here. Or could be the bugginess of Vanilla. We don't have access to the permissions to post images. That's an admin only thing. Vanilla has been buggy since they did their last forum maintenance.
My opinions are my own. I do not work for PWE or Cryptic. - Forum Rules - Protector's Enclave Discord - I play on Xbox Any of my comments not posted in orange are based on my own personal opinion and not official. Any messages written in orange are official moderation messages. Signature images are now fixed!
Just to add my viewpoint, even if it is nothing new. First, the loot in those chests is very rarely worth a key, even one made from campaign currency. After this change Gr. Demonic keys for twisted ichor and nothing else. No other keys at all.
Secondly, after all the other negative changes to the legacy sets, invoking, salvage, gateway, the complaints about grind, micromanagement, inventory, lack of reward, this was really not a good time to make such a change. For some players it may not have much effect, but it all adds up and the camel was already struggling.
Thirdly, the idea that either the decline button is a bug or that using it should consume the key beggars belief. Frankly it is insulting that such an attempt at smoke and mirrors even be made. There are no words.

Just remember people. This is d&d and the developers are our collective DMs. If at the end of the day they choose to spawn 1000 ancient dragons to instant kill their players they can do so. Just don't ever trust them to run your campaigns again.
It's the action of a frustrated DM that really doesn't want to be DM anymore!

I hate paying taxes! Why must I pay thousands of dollars in taxes when everything I buy is taxed anyways!
I know its time to close my wallet, but it might also be time for a little vacay from Toril. Give it a chance to sort it self out, ya know? Did it after mod 6 release, came back, things were better. But time flows like a river, and history repeats itself. Wonder who's gonna be fired this time around.
What? A +1 Ring AND Abyssal Residuum? Why on earth would anyone decline such a trove of magnificent treasures!?! /s
At least it was an Aquamarine instead of a Peridot!
Also...... full disclosure, as it happens I picked up a +4 Rising Deflect ring on that throne run too. Just goes to show, when this change goes into effect: 1: People that haven't quit in disgust will probably hold onto their keys in hopes the eventual "rework" will make it worth it. 2: Meaning very few people will bother opening the chests at all. 3: Sales of Legendary Rings will plummet because... seriously... why buy them if that load of garbage is all you're going to get anyway.
I predict further increases in backlogs as people decide to not support Cryptic's deceitful business practices. That is to say, I sure HOPE people open their eyes and withhold their money because a company willing to blatantly, openly, and so obviously lie to its customers doesn't deserve your money. It's like McDonald's trying to tell you they sell healthy food or Coal-fire power plant operators trying to say coal smoke is GOOD for the environment... It's really, truly, outrageous that they'd just... LIE like that. They should be ashamed of themselves. @mimicking#6533 - YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF for presiding over this... this... I don't even know what to call this HAMSTER show. Circus? Fiasco? Disaster? Take your pick.
As a business person, thought I would throw my 2 cents in one ways that you could make more $$ WITHOUT infuriating your clients. Because clients want to spend money to get new things, to get things they don't have, and to feel better about themselves. When you insult them, they may stick around for lack of options - but they will be less likely to be as open with their wallets.
Where you could make more $$ from us without making us unhappy:
Create a wardrobe for holding multiple fashion sets without keeping them in our inventory. Most of the people I know won't spend money on fashion bits in this game because they don't want to take up precious inventory space - even though many of them would spend a lot of money normally to have multiple fashion options on their characters (most of us have every clothing option that other games offer).
Sell a keyring: To keep all of our keys out of our inventory
Sell color skins/armor skins for mounts and companions
Increase the RNG so that people feel like there is a chance they will get something useful. Most of my friends won't buy enchanted keys because none of us need more garbage. If we saw a higher drop rate of goodies, we would be more inclined to buy more lock box keys.
Sell the Yellow Mounts I don't care if its for $75, make them available for zen and people will buy them
Increase the number of Artifact sets available in game, and spread them around, don't put them all in one dungeon or in only new content.
Right now there are (before the patch) 3 endgame weapon sets - the ones you get from EE, the ones you get from Mote Farming and the Twisted set... Some other options would be nice, especially if they dropped somewhere. The longer we spend in the game playing (treasure hunting) the more likely we are to justify to ourselves spending money on the game.
Make VIP more lucrative, the dungeon keys we get should open any chest. Remove some of the garbage from the Lock Boxes so we don't decide against more VIP due to (ahem) 30+ days of profession packs. True, some people get VIP for the convenience of the teleport or the no injury perk - but most go month to month in order to get the lock box keys.
Again, just my 2 cents

no no. can we get a perma key instead. like a thieves key, aka skeleton key from skyrim =. why not give our a key that has unlimited uses and works on any chest. maybe cause that wouldn't be fair. but taking away a decline function is not fair.
i am in vote for a seperate bag for all our keys so they don't take up any bag space, or a single key with unlimited uses that works on any chest. like the legendary dragon keys but with unlimited uses
I am playing this game since may 2013. I am a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons, I was a loyal player of this game, but now it is time for me to move on, taking a break for an indefinite period of time. I will look up from time to time to see if something changed, until then...take care all, you were a great community.

It's not a cash grab, if it was they'd move all artifact drops to the right chest, good luck getting your Lostmauth artifact for less than 20m AD if that happened. Why they addressed this issue (it was hinted at when the second chest in Lagmouth made it's appearance) now rather than the I dunno how many issues they could have fixed, like our BIO's.
Simple as this. Saying anything different is an outright lie worthy of the US Presidential Campaign.
Preach on!!

@jumpingmorks its not a cash grab for older content, its one for new content.. raid will require many, many, many keys. They looked at that , decided .. heck we could make a ton of money and decided to pull the trigger.
Its blatant to me, I dont see how you are missing that?
It's the fact that we HAD to peek because the loot SUCKED.
That's the bottom line. If 95% of the time people actually USED the key to TAKE the loot, this would be a non-issue.
Do the developer not see this? I'm literally exasperated to the point where it's getting tough to type.
The loot is so bad in the game that people are clearing content, opening up the reward chest and saying, "No thanks".
Can we let that sink in for a minute.
Sinking...
Sinking...
Sinking...
Do you get it now? Loot. An aspect that is so fundamental to Dungeons and Dragons. The entire point of there being Dungeons to delve and Dragons to kill is to take their loot.
And you guys have literally created some bizarro-world D&D where thousands and thousands and thousands of adventures are literally exercising their option to not take the loot because it's so bad.
The dragon dies.
The loot chest opens.
And the heroes politely decline.
EXACTLY!!!!!! Congratz on nailing the truth as to why the player-base is so understandably upset over this extremely bad decision! And to label those who take advantage of the "peek" as exploiters is absolutely ridiculous!

Just in case, you don't understand. In Lostmauth, there are 2 chests: one is opened by Epic Dungeon key (people who has VIP has tons of those) and one is opened by a special key (that you can buy from Zen or make your own). So, you usually can at least open one chest in the end of LoL. If you have the special key for the 2nd chest, you can peek and decide if you want to "waste" that special key.
In the new content, there will be 3 chests. All 3 chests can only be opened by the special key. You need 3 special key to open them. You cannot use Epic dungeon key. If you have enough resource to craft 3 keys everyday (this is a big if), you can run that dungeon once per day. The 2nd times you run it, you will not get any loot. Or, you can use Zen to buy that 3 keys. If you can peek, at least, you don't need to waste the Zen key for junk.
*** The game can read your mind. If you want it, you won't get it. If you don't expect to get it, you will. ***

First of, I am not in favor of this change but I am also not affected by it. I rarely do not take the loot from my chests anyway. There's been less times than the fingers I have on my hands that I have ever declined the rewards from a chest. Was it nice to save the key? Heck yeah. Loot in chests, for lack of a better way to describe it, just plain sucks gibberling toes. If loot was actually worth the key, then there'd really be no problem. As it is now, the loot in chests are rarely worth the key used on them, even the free keys...
Just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood moderation member to please make sure that when you light your torches, grab your pitchforks and apply the tar and feathers, that you do your best to keep it within the bounds of the forum code of conduct. Thanks.

@metalldjt@kreatyve Mobile Posts have only a very, very small portion of posting permissions. Why? Ask Vanilla.
Look at the options at the top of the posting box when posting on the mobile site. Even when you type in the code it will not function as the post does not have the correct permissions.
Additionally the post itself is what has the permissions for some reason. Any post made on a mobile site is stuck with those permissions forever. Neither the posts or moderators can edit the post and use desktop permissions.
EDIT - Just checked...images might have worked in the past on mobile. I had thought links worked and images didn't. I had it backwards.
Whatever Vanilla did to break a dozen other things last week also seems to have made images not able to be posted on mobile. Maybe they'll finally fix the permissions on mobile now. I...wouldn't hold my breath.

Now, on to the those claiming that the "this is a bug" is a lie. It is not. The Moderators were told early on just after Module 3 that being able to open a chest and not take the contents but keep your key was indeed a bug. That the decline button was there for those who did not want the loot, not for those who did not want to consume their key. However, as this wasn't something of a real issue and there was a clique of people claiming it was an exploit to look and not take, it was deemed best to remain silent on the issue, lest we fuel a group of player's crusade to name and shame folks for "exploiting." In short, years ago, it was indeed deemed a bug but was not pursued as an exploit.
So, can we now please move on from this whole claim that they are lieing about it being a bug? Such does nothing to add to productive feedback. Thanks!
