Or, alternatively I guess, make Companion gear Bind ot Account on pickup, but be craftable. This makes the assortment of professions less redundant. Heck, due to off-hand weapons (Sword Knot, Talisman, etc) you could actually make Weaponsmithing and Artificing relevant again!

This idea is also workable as well as multi-platform-friendly. The best widely available off-hand type items available for companions on consoles are already rare crafted ones (because the Stronghold ones are quite awful), and they are sorely lacking compared to Loyal.

What's more, it leads easy room for upgrading as new modules come out.

In fact, it'd be nifty if every module, there was a new suite of companion gear keyed to the module. Frostborn gear for companions, Drowcraft gear for companions, whatever the next module is gonna be! You'd end up having a lot of legacy items but, well, the profession is ALREADY a legacy item.

1 - Except I and guildies are still getting Blue drops?

2 - I've been chucking blue world and chest drops into belt and neck on two toons for weeks now, and listing the ones with decent suffixes if they were sub 70.

3 - That proves that there is still blue drops on mobs, it's as simple as that.

1 - by killing level 70+ mobs?? where? my last blue piece was earned via SCA... and i can't get them any longer due gateway being shutted down.

2 - We are not talking about elemental evil gear, but regular blue gear.

3 - There are some blue drops from mobs, yes, but not a single one is level 70 blue gear or, maybe, that i am unlucky enough to not get a blue gear drop on any instance.

1 : It would have to be WOD and possibly anywhere there's a dragon scaling me down, I know that some of it has been after DRs and others have been mixed in with zone level gear when I'm doing Harper Dailies. I don't see it all the time, but I do still see it.

2: As am I as I have said several times, I'm talking your run of the mill 115 "+n armour of " stuff.

3: As I have also said before... I seem to never see the companion drops in CTA ( especially the Golem which I wanted for two toons so farmed the HAMSTER out of the CTA ), yet they definitely dropped as did the Flame sprite this time. A guildie went 6 for 23 runs with the sprite and then decided to give up before we lynched her. RNG is RNG and sometimes it hates us all.

Screenshot from the lazy GWF today, just to make sure we're talking the same 70 Blues worth 300 RP.

For some reason it doesn't seem to like inserting images into the post for me, the screengrab is at http://imgur.com/a/uhvWG . The neck piece beside it is also a level 70 blue of the format "blah neck of blah" and BOE.

Just got out of the meeting and decided that Gateway will not be coming up this week. We will have a more official announcement by the end of this week of what our plans are and why Gateway has been down.

I also have a task to follow up on what to do with the things like the companion only gear, Lightfoot Thief and the companion we internally called 'Tank-dog' that will likely not include the Zen Market. Though I think the dog is in the Zen Market on Xbox since we knew we couldn't launch with Gateway.

xbox would love to see companion only gear on trade bar vendor or even the zen market if in a affordable pack
cheapest adorable bites is 3.2mil, with the Talisman going for 7mil is just unfair

So... if you have to find out what to do with all that.. then.... I guess this means no gateway anymore. I know it doesn't matter to you all... But, not having the Gateway would make this game MUCH less than before. But.. pssh... it seems you guys don't mind REMOVING content from the game ... (cough old dungeons).

I really hope that I'm wrong... I'd rather words like Shameful and Amateur not be able to be use LEGITIMATElY in reference to Cryptic/PWE.

Constantly take away from what's already in game.... and still not fix the problems that were used as an excuse for taking them away in the first place. How is that right?

FYI... I don't have Leadership Army or use bots or any of the things that would bias my opinion like most people. I jsut think it's embarrassing to have this happen... take take take away things that were ALREADY created (hard work of it done).... lol. *exhales*

I know it's probably more work, but you guys might consider that aforementioned professions task thing for companion gear. It'd be really nice if crafted gear (other than the impossible-to-get mastercraft gear) was actually useful (even if only for companions) and it'd be nice to use the passing of the gateway as a silver lining.

Of course, crafting companions themselves is downright silly. Maybe make them tradebar related but able to be purchased on the AH? I know that's sort of Zen-Purchases Lite, but depending on how they're priced tradebar wise, the excess tradebars that those of us with VIP have could translate to enough of the companions being on the market that the price (in terms of ADs anyway) could be somewhat reasonable.

Or maybe I'm just trying to bug the dev team into letting me monetize my tradebars more efficiently. Muaa haa haa and all that.

I have to say the Gateway was one of the reasons I started playing Neverwinter. I liked the idea of not spending hours farming for crafting like WoW to begin with and when I found out I could craft on my lunch break I was sold! I'd hate to see it go.

can i attend to these meetings? ^^

i made a post few pages ago, just accept gateway / leadership as it is and open the gates for every average joe !!!!

Make a Auto profession feature in game, once everyone taps into the it, there wont be a need for bots.
There wouldn't be any need to buy zen either... which I'm fairly sure is of much more concern to them :D

Your suggestion indicates you have no place in their meetings because you don't understand the economics of Free to play gaming.

2 cents. I don't really care if gateway stays down (BIS and i don't play this game much anymore), BUT the impact it will have to new players is gonna be huge.
R4/R5 stacks price went up like 10x what they were before and reso's prices will be much higher in future, maybe not 10x (since they are botted ingame)
So new player can earn r5 stack a day by playing and lesser reso stack about 10 days -> they will never achieve bis status, since new gear is introduced so often.
Unless they want to spend like 20k real money.

Well, we move from an insultingly unfriendly keep-consumer-in-the-dark policy to "Just taking away content as usual".

Just taking the chance of that it is down to overhaul the gateway instead of just taking down the parts causing trouble is a fairly lousy choice, these things should be told to the userbase with some prior warning, not a weeks-late notice.

We are in 2nd week of Gateway being down, and that's all Cryptic has to offer? "More" official announcement by the end of this week? Seriously? Well, seems I will recover some HDD space, as Nevewinter is going to be uninstalled from my PC - until Cryptic starts behaving "more" professional.

Sounds like the Gateway will not be coming back. Or at least without SCA.

I am thinking that a LOT of the recent changes are going to be bad for new players. :( I'm half tempted to make a new account just to see how hard it is to get going without access to chat and stuff up til a certain point.

It upset me greatly that Andy cried BOTS on the 9th, I am sorry if he was mislead or just told to say that. While I have mixed emotions about the loss of the Gateway, I am glad to hear the developer not use bots as an excuse to make changes. Just say what you do and do what you mean. There is no need to cast blame like a kid, with chocolate on his face, telling me the dog ate all the cookies. I guess the community will have to decide, if they can live without phone access to this game.

    I will adjust and overcome.

    Dear Cryptic,

let me start on a calm note. I understand that things can break. I understand the Gateway is providing access to core game databases, which are by nature very complex and therefore such connection is prone to bugs. I also understand that the Gateway is also an open backdoor for the bots, as it is easier to script the bot exploiting the web based access, than script a bot exploiting in-game mechanics. Well I only assume the bots are the reason behind Gateway down, as there is not much information passed to us players. I keep my fingers crossed and wish that you Cryptic guys will be able to find reasonable compromise to minimize the bot exploits and keep the human players satisfied.
What I don’t understand is lack of communication and/or poor communication, when it is finally coming.
Next time, please post official announcement. It doesn’t need to be weeks ahead. But a simple note saying, we need to put Gateway down for extended maintenance and we are unable to give you (players) the timeframe, would be better than this silence. During the first few hours of this incident I have spent quite significant time trying to find the fix. When there was no announcement on your side, I was quite sure the problem existed on my side. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe even until now, there is no official statement.
Not only there was no official announcement, but the game client still invites you to “Visit the Gateway” via the loading screen. On top of that, just yesterday I have passed the level 10 with my new character and “surprise” I got in-game mail with the invitation to the Gateway. Should I be the first time player I would jump to Gateway (full of expectations) to get the “under maintenance” message.
I guess you guys are working hard on the fix. Thank you for that. Please work on your communication. It can save you from flames and rants. Thank you in advance.

which is something they should have done before suggesting those changes. i will just say that how can you ask for help with quests or for partying+leveling together without access to zone chat (which if i remember correctly was the default selected chat)?

I dont think the gateway down limits Boter.
Ingame profession tasks are no big Challange for Bots. It just makes it harder and more time consuming for legit Players with middle big and big accounts.
And I'm pretty sure now, since the gateway is closed, some of them are thinking about using bots.
So the suggest to make a auto repeat for profession tasks is very good.
For the Boter is the gateway down a minor trouble, they switch to ingame bots, for legit Player a very big impact in the playstyle.
