You summon multiple puppets but only one at a time, so either the plural or singular form is applicable. Actually.
If you think that feat line is useless without multiple puppets then you're Doing It Wrong.
There is no consistency in the feats descriptions. Some use singular some use plural. It's strongly implied by the description of soul desecration that multiple puppets can be spawned and the previous feats say puppets. It wouldn't be cryptic though if description weren't misleading and didn't even give you half the information you need to make an informed decision on what it get. And there is no denying it is the weakest path.

Its not the weakest path fury glass cannon Fury has no Utility what so ever damnation and temptation out class it terms of usefull feats that add utility to the class.

Fury is the dps path and thus the go to choice for pvp. Temptation is best for group pve. Damnation is good for soloing which isn't going to help you much except when leveling.

Just cause fury is a dps tree dose not mean its the go to tree for pvp all the fury tree dose is let you proc free necrotic dmg based on crits and its cap stone is nothing more then a nice DoT. It dose not provide you with the Flexibility or Utility's Temptation and Damnation trees do. TBH Fury is nothing more then a more lackluster Thaum Tree and dosent even come close to being on part with it

Damnation does not provide utility. It makes you slightly more tanky.
Damnation does not provide utility. It makes you slightly more tanky.
What Feat in Damnation makes you tanking oh yeah 10% less dmg that's not tanky at all like that's gonna save your *** on it own. Lets see it give to 10% extra dmg it provide 2% more life stealing it give a massive dps boost to your puppet it also adds a 25% chance for your puppet to proc lesser curse that's Utility and more synergy with curse eating skills and feats it adds a life stealing a effect to the puppet that's Utility.
It also has more synergy when combined with the Temptation feat compound soul as the SP auto attacks will curse the target and trigger the feat netting loads of temporary HP to a party that's utility. Sure a fury warlock can do the same But the SP AI locks on to a target lock it on to a boss let it auto attack triggering a lesser curse and a temporary HP buff to the party with out you yourself having to think about doing it yourself Thats utility/synergy Did i mention it has way more synergy with daughters promise then even a fury warlock itself dose.

Reduced damage, increased life steal, and spreading curse to use for temp HP. If you don't see how this is a defensive path there is no hope for you.

The only tree that gives temp Hp is the temptation tree and all trees can use compound soul the damnation tree is a Hybrid tree that can go ether dps or Support tree not a Purly defensive Tree but can be built to be not pure dps but can do it all to well. Yes i am hijacking the tread cause people want to take away something viable in PvP that soul puppets are good at body blocking if you cant learn maneuver your *** around the puppet to get a clean shot at the SW i have no sympathy for you.

Vampiric embrace gives temp HP when used on a cursed target. All damage increasing feats include a life steal increase. This is a very defense oriented tree.
If you want to be a big damage dealer fury is the best choice. If you want to support your party temptation is the best choice. Thus damnation is the weakest tree and only good while leveling.

VE is a encounter currently Temptation is the only tree that has a feat that gives temp HP and it gives the highest LS value of any tree and yes temptation is the most defensive tree of the three Damnation the most versatile but only give a 2% LS bonus and a 10% dmg boost to the sw the reast of the feat drasticaly increase the sp power more the the SW itself.
Fury dose not give LS only Pure necrotic dmg its dmg increasing feats dont include any form of LS bonus at all unless its coming from the necrotic dmg you all ready have procing from its feats

Wrathful souls give the puppet life steal to heal you.
Temptation has the most utility as it includes a life steal increase, recover stamina each time you are hit, party buffs, party heals, debuffs to enemies, adds a chance to curse anything that hits you, and gives your party temp HP.
Damnation buffs your damage, increases life steal, makes your puppet "permanent", spreads the curse, gives the puppet life steal, and reduces damage you take.

Ah finally we see eye to eye Thing is fury capstone still take to much preparation to be effective in a fast fight you have to tab warlocks curse a target you want to use it on then hit them with large necrotic dmg spike . Are curse mechanic is good but very clunky in fast situations with erratically moving targets this is why I do not want to worry about a tree that requires that much prep for its capstone to take full effect.

If you still don't see damnation as the defensive tree we aren't seeing eye to eye. Damnation and temptation won't do anything to save you from being CC'd to death in PVP. Your best bet is to go fury and try to kill them before they CC you.

Cause its not a just defensive tree its a Hybrid curse effect and pet tree and we will never see eye to eye on it. Alone Its not much a defensive/Offensive tree its not giving you major amounts of HP and bonus dmg and not nearly the amount of LS Bonus that Temptation gives it gives you a flat 10% less dmg against you and 10% dmg boost to targets.
What it will do PvP wise that a Fury and temptation warlock cant do quite as good is give you a living wall that will body block for you permanently allowing you to potentially avoid badly aimed spells headed in your direction that's the only major defensive aspect The tree has on its own But the burning Puppets trait is another animal.
What Damnation spec allows you to do is exploit power interactions with the use of soul puppet the burning puppets trait alone brings a plethora of offensive/defensive Hybrid utility to how you can use your encounter bar and set up skills and kills just because the puppet alone will curse a target for you so you don't have to wast a encounter slot on a curse skill Burning puppets will also net you Offensive Synergy with Daughters promise Fury feat like i said before and even more Defensive support with compound soul.

You're stretching pretty far saying its not a defensive tree because it can synergize with another tree. Because you know. YOU ARE GOING IN TO ANOTHER TREE. Damnation by itself is a very defense oriented tree. You can't deny this and have to bring in feats from other trees to try and prove otherwise.

I say that Because 7 of the traits are DPS Related traits weather its spreading a curse when a cursed target is killed or giving the ability's for another power to boost the dps of allies. 3 of them are strait up soul Puppet Buffing traits. 1 Buffs your DPS by 10% and boost your lifesteal 1 deals weapon dmg for each curse removed from a target and 1 gives the ability for Piller of power to boost allies dps and the last one spreads a lesser curse to a nearby target and lesser cure are DoT so yes its a dps feat.
Here i will even print out the whole tree for you i don't know why you doubt me as my SW is a damnation warlock. 2 of the traits are defensive 1 is terrible and the other adds a flat 10% reduced dmg Ghastly commander is a hybrid trait But really 2% LS is nothing to shake a tail feather at specially when i am already LS caped again this tree is hybrid and its only gets that cause burning puppets is such a amazing trait
Damnation Path Feats

I am not refusing to accept LS as a defensive stat But i am not gonna call Damnation a purely defensive tree when its has 7 dps related traits and focuses on a pet. I dont think its about you thinking that shes refusing to believe that damnation has defensive traits, so much as YOU are refusing that it has offensive traits. im counting 6 out of 9 feats in that path that either deal with dishing out more damage, or your puppet dishing out more damage.
That being said, as were getting off topic at this point, the thread is about the existence of the puppet itself. I agree that when the Warlock dies it should go. But when youre complaining about a possible pet mechanic annoying you when the Warlock himself is a bonafide leather bound wizard with no control powers, you kind of lose the defense of the crowd. The warlock is weak, and doesnt really have a mechanic like an extra spell slot for control powers, or the ability to teleport/retreat/stealth to get away. Their shadow slip is the only thing they have on gfs... and we all know how mobile they are in pvp.
I hear "learn to play" all the time, but it seems to me that it should be defined as "my class is balanced, except when others beat it, then THAT class is OP"...
Ok we can slash this thread the warlocks pet will now die when it dies

2 increase damage. 3 if you include parting blasphemy. I don't know what tree you are looking at. Unless you are including the feats that spread the curse as a damage increase. And in that case you are grasping at straws pretty hard.
So far the puppet feat tree is the best one. The puppet is a nice addition but the main thing that makes the tree probably the best pvp choice is the 10% dmg resist the puppet gives you. Having a 1k dps puppet decoy is a very pleasant side effect. Oh and there is also the 10% permanent dps increase.

10% damage resist isn't going to do anything when you are getting chain CC'd. SW has no way to deal with CC so your best bet is to go all in on damage and hope you kill them before they get to you.

Dose not matter 7 out of the 9 feats deal or boost dps 3 of them boost puppet DPS and when the puppet can curse some one that's a dps increase thanks to the dot. The capstone Buffs the puppet cause every 15 seconds you would deal dmg you summon a soul puppet there can only be one in your control at a time so instead of summoning a second puppet it gets a 20% dmg buff also the capstone summons more puppets when you kill warlocks cursed targets buffing your single puppet again over and over the buff stack maxes out at 5 but you get the picture the capstone feat boost puppet dps and will keep the buff up permanently also.
Wrathful souls Boost the puppets Auto attack dmg bye 100%. Parting Blasphemy will also deal dmg 6% of you weapon dmg when ever a curse is removed. Ghastly commander Boost your DPS Power of the nine hells lets allies get 50% of the dps boost provided by piller of power and Relentless will press a lesser curse when ever a cursed target dies dealing DoT.
