Question though. What do you mean when you say Deflect is "easy to avoid"?
I think what he's saying is that you can get around a high Deflect % by stunning/slowing/entangling/proning said Deflector first.
He stated in his post that your Deflect % goes to zero when CCed or proned.
Another quick question for any Deflect Whizzes out there...I've heard that the 25% severity stat for TR is bugged and it is actually 75%. Can anyone verify that?

It isn't bugged, it's always been 75% they just changed the tooltip for god knows why from 75% damage reduced to 25% damage taken
Edit: deflect is also calculated after defense reductions, so if you are heavily debuffed at say -20% defense you take the full damage that you took -75% on a deflect, it's extremely effective for TR's that want to be more durable, and a much better choice than defense I would say.
That said HP is the only thing that makes you live longer 100% of the time

Ah, that explains it. Thanks for the clarification.
Cant remember if it was the good match or the bad one, heh. We had one that was terrible, no team cohesion and we lost. The rest were all pretty decent =P
I don't think you were there for the match we had. Alexis and I from Lords of Light were with mostly Exodus and Diabolic (think it was Mochie, fanatix(?) and a healer with a three-part name like Jones-something-Heals) in a PUG, and it was funny for our new friends when they saw Aja and Tiah on the other team. We had an extremely close match and won by a hair. Was a lot of fun.

I agree, and understand the part about deflect. Which makes sense why I hit people so hard when they are CC'd or prone(smoke bomb doesn't seem to change much, or walking from a dazing strike)
I don't agree on the health comment though. I have just over 21k health, and I last a very long time. It makes sense to me that even if you had 40k health, but zero defense and deflect, you will get crushed like a small child.
Now, on the flip side, I know certain CW's on Mindflayer who are close to, if not at 30k health. They do very well not having much defensive stats, because they are skilled players and are able to turn the battlefield in there favor by use of CC abilities.
I don't recommend to anyone starting out, to just enchant Radiants for health. I feel its a choice only to be made at end game, from skilled players with the availability and option to purchase very high ranking enchants, to move past that 25k health mark.
I'm not saying its not possible for a lesser geared player with high health to be viable, I just don't recommend it personally.

Hello, Testament! Well, yea, I remember it was close, but i didnt remember who won untill now, since was stoned as **** xD
Was incredibly fun anyways, so who cares!
Cant remember if it was the good match or the bad one, heh. We had one that was terrible, no team cohesion and we lost. The rest were all pretty decent =P
.......
I have 27% damage resistance. So lets say that I am not debuffed at all. I successfully evade an attack, taking 25% less damage + 27% damage resistance =52%. So instead of taking a 15k crit, I would take a 7,350k crit instead. Is this correct how I am figuring the numbers?
Them was'nt you that time, but anyways, fights against EoA are always thrilling - doesnt matter pugging or pre v pre - u, guys, are awesome
.......
Not precisely: its not 0.27+0.25=0.52. Its 0.73*0.75 ≈ 0.55 - u recieve 55% damage from that attack. Means, u negate 45%, not 52%. It means 8.25k IK crit instead of 15.
I think what he's saying is that you can get around a high Deflect % by stunning/slowing/entangling/proning said Deflector first.
this^
Ideally, u always would like to try stun/freeze/prone target before dropping dem nukez xD Note on defense vs health: IMO, if u cant afford at least 30-35% damage resistance (means defense+AC+buffs), investing stats into defense is pretty much pointless. Health is a better choise, since it synergies well with regen.
Hey, guys. I cleaned up the thread a bit to erase all the recent personal attacks that were present in this thread. We have an absolute lack of guides, and this is one of the few rare ones that actually tackle one of the many contents of the game that players happen to have trouble with which is PVP. If anyone has different ideas about PVP, please create a new thread and include as many details as possible as to how you think PVP should be played. The more informative and detailed guides about the many contents of the game, the better.
We really appreciate all those who did their best to remain civil and cool-headed throughout the course of the argument. Henceforth, it would be greatly appreciated if people stuck to the topic as much as possible and refrained from making further personal attacks. Thank you all in advance for cooperating!
Please guys, start a flame-and-bash-post in the Lower depths.
This is a really nice guide for beginners, appreciate the work of Alysin Chains and do your flame-wars somewhere else.

We lost because we had a bot on our team. We were also up against a partial pre-made match and with the other dps on our team being an undergeared, unenchanted cw, no chance of winning.

About the counter-counter in each class match-up. I still have to find one in a GWF-TR matchup.
GWF-CW: they can cc, you can go unstoppable. They can teleport, you can sprint and try to fool them to make them waste teleports. Same goes for the opposite: GWF can hit hard, you can cc him/push him. If he reaches you, you've to try and make him waste his encounters with your teleports, then cc again.
CW-TR: as you guys said above
GF-CW: CW can cc you and teleport, you can chain prone him
GF-TR: TR can DPS, dodge immune, go ITC invulnerable, smoke screen, perma stealth. You can block if you see it, or eat damage a lot, and if you see them, you have the fast charge and chain prone them.
GWF-TR: he can range attack from stealth. You can block, or AoE ranged attacks to get him like a CW. You go unstoppable, he just have to move away and wait, since you can't attack from distance. He can go ITC invulnerable if you reach him, you can move away but he will range attack you... You reach him again, he drops smoke screen. He can go perma stealth, you can...tank, run around, try to "figure out" where he is and roar...all vague. Your attacks have sloooooow animations. He can dodge immune 3 times. As a counter you can................................................................. only clear suggestion i got so far is: go sentinel full regen/37k+ hp and deflect. And tank. Eat damage, wait from team mates. Our counter is to go ful ltank and eat damage. Obviously a good TR will eventually cut through even a sentinel regen/hp, with the high damage encounters/ranged attacks exc... But you can tank a lot and he may give up and go to a easier target, or your team mates can catch up and kill him.
So, unless someone comes up with a clear counter that a GWF can use on a TR stealth+ITC+dodge roll immunity+smoke screen+high DPS, i just assume that there's no real counter in this matchup. You're slower, can't really counter his stealth in a clear way, can't really counter his ITC. You can "fool" him and make him waste the dodge rolls like with CW teleports. But considering all the other options he still has, i don't see it as a overall fair matchup.
At least on a 1v1 view point. In a brawl, you can sprint to him and prone him, but the brawl law applies to all classes.
To me, it's simply that not every class has a counter for another class. Not like there's a 50-50 chance to kill and get killed. If you can find a clear counter for a GWF vs TR, i'll be happy. So far, no one could.
More likely, you've to think about the overall 5v5 situation and adapt to a strategy that minimize your weakness and maximize your strenghts.
For a GWF, fighting a rogue 1v1 is not a good idea. He has stealth, more damage, more mobility, more defensive options (stealth/dodge/ITC/smoke against unstoppable) and ranged attack.
For a CW, going around alone with a TR stealthed around, is not a good idea.
For a TR it's probably a bad idea to face a GF unstealthed or jump into a brawl of GFs/GWFs (but usually they can ITC and dodge roll away before they die).
It must be 5v5 balance. That's the only way to see a balance in PvP, to me.
Hopefully its helpful.

There is no point to whine for nerfs because you win some and loose some. Crying just makes a player look like a crier and no one, especially the devs, should take them seriously. Have a nice day!:)

For us, in the times that we know people are going to quit, we let them cap points. We are not a$$holes here to make people cry. We just want to pvp together as a guild and have some fun in some challenging matches(we do lose), as well as every other premade.
We usually end up doing the 1 vs 1's and have a blast doing it, and so does the other team. They get plenty of glory for capping points, as well as we let them chose which one of us to 1 vs 1.
Its an alternative to not being able to chose a premade only Q...so Leaving because you see a premade is downright silly.
I don't know one guild on Mindflayer that runs premades, that doesn't allow 1 vs 1. The only time we, or they, decide to finish the match with killing them is when they try and gank us while were watching the 1 vs 1 fights, or talking HAMSTER in /zone...
I agree with everything that you have posted here. I have fought with Essence of Aggression and been on their ts server and have fought against them. In general, the pvp folk from Essence are class acts as are the other top pvp teams on the server: Anatagony, Complaints Department, etc. The newer players really should realize that these are decent people just having fun and trying to win. No one is hacking or cheating, that i know of, and most are good sports. I have been on many of the top premades on Mindflayer at one point or another, so I speak from experience. BTW.. i cannot believe that essence beat us 1000-998 the other day. That one still hurts... Ellsbeth

Thx bud glad you liked it.
1000-998!! I've had quite a fiew matches that ended like that, and a fiew 1000-999. Win or lose. I cant imagine anyone being upset over that, those are the most exciting fun games you can be involved in. I would rather lose by 1 point 50 times in a row, then stomp someone 1000-0 hands down. Those matches I'm at the edge of my chair loving every minute =P
As far as our guilds. We have a pretty healthy PvP community on Mindflayer. Lots of very very good players, and for the most part we all know each other quite well in the game, from playing with, and against each other.
There are times when attitudes are thrown around, and that's going to happen when you have 2 very competitive teams going against each other. But for the most part, its always in good fun........and theres a lot of pig humping going around <---Makes me lol in real life every single time.
Me: HAMSTER, they got me again. hahaha
Wife: Whats happening?
Me: Oh nothing, got fisted by 2 sneaky tr's is all
Wife: Whats a tr?
Me: Trickster rogue baby, duh
wife: What are they doing to you??
Me: Humping and penetrating my lifeless corpse till I respawn....../sad face
Wife: That's so mean! Cant you call someone and get them in trouble?
Me: lol..no honey, its funny though right?
Wife:.......its mean, and next time you do better at them so you can do the humping honey..

So true! I can't believe some teams find joy in 1000 to 30 or so point games. I'd much rather continually lose by a slim margin than pug stomp all day long. I want a good fight!
Although somewhat biased because I am part of the guild, Essence of Aggression has some amazing players. We consistently kick jerks, whiners, cry-babies, drama-makers and non-team players if they somehow get into our guild. Will some slip through the cracks? Sure. Will there be trash talk during matches? Most likely. I personally try my best to congratulate opposing teams after good matches via tells, or send out a zone praise after an enemy makes a good move.

I would have to agree that close fights tend to be much more enjoyable. Even when I pug or just have a couple guildies with me and we are getting stomped I believe it is still fun to try. A tough fight provides a chance for learning. I do have to say that I see a lot less trash talk, at least in pvp zone chat, than I used to and that makes me happy. I've never seen much point in trying to tear someone down in a video game. If I need to rant about something that's what my guildies are for.

I play PVP with pugs and on several occasions we have let the team keep the point nearest their spawn and fought them at the number 2 point. This is another good example of a scorecard showing a loss because of bad tactics and no team work.
I cant stress it enough. Do not contest any given point with more then 2 players guys if you want to win. 1 skilled player is the best, but depending on how the game is developing, 2 is fine when you are in a good rotation.
5 vs 5 is a Team game. 1 player no madder how geared, or how well they play. Cannot possibly control all 3 nodes.
Thanks for this guys. I'm rather newb to PvP. I did a bit of it while leveling with my DC, even after 60 for fun (because despite my dying, I still found it fun, I'm weird) but am considering it on my Sent GWF. What you have here is helpful though, and maybe I might see a few of you on the battlefield while I PuG. I'm no where near as good as Blessing on my DC (and truly, I've seen her in action, she's a great DC) and have never PVPed on my GWF, but I'd give it a go in a PuG.

Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)
And some people never played something else, thats for sure

Okay, here are some beyond-the-basics strategies that we like using in EoA.
1) Continual back-cap. Who did you send to back cap? Stealth TR? GWF? Are they going down? A few options you can use...
a) Send the DC back to drop an A. Shield, toss a quick healing word, and run back to mid.
b) Send your next back-capper (TR, GWF, or GF are good choices), to pour in when the other is going down. Rinse and repeat.
c) Send the CW or TR to the far point to help finish off the enemy, then have them return mid.
2) Set up 2v1s. Is a Sent on your point contesting against a TR? Or a GF? Send a DPS back to help finish them off. Get back to mid in time to help. CWs are great at this because they can attack from a distance. Speaking of which...
3) Come off point or die! As a CW, I love 1v1ing melees against a point we currently control. They either have to come off point, or continually take damage or be Repelled off point. Some Sents can withstand the damage and cap, so you may need to get on the point before they cap it.
4) Set yourself up for success! Can your CW kill the DC the fastest? Is your TR great at taking down GFs? Is someone on the enemy team not good against your Sentinel? Do your best to set up your team against the other team on your terms.
I might ad that being in Teamspeak makes these strategies much easier.

I wish more people would write up there own hints and tips, I'd happily add them to this thread with there name on it
And some people never played something else, thats for sure
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)
