Q: Is it possible to 'romance' NPCs and pets using dialogue options in foundry?

    ....

Old forum users should be able to recognize the joke :p

Though I am asking this seriously (...well kind of)

Just to keep this going and with hopes you can stop by and answer questions again mapolis I pulled some questions from the defunct mmorpg.com community Q&A round 2. Folks please bear with me if some of these have been answered and I haven't removed them it could simply be that I didn't know they had been answered.

What races and classes can we expect apart from those already know?
    How do feats work?
What are and how do Paragon Paths work?
Will we be able to swap out different set ups, ie can we save say aoe setup, pvp set up pve solo set up etc.
How or will classes be able to specialise in certain aspects?
How do class special skills work?

    and some more more

Q: Will stealth mean something? What about rangers and rogues?
Q: Actually on the topic of a race like genasi, how would you handle their liquid move for watersoul and flying ability for windsoul?
Q: What about puzzles? - maybe a door is guarded by a magic mouth and you have to know the answer to a riddle to get past it. etc.
    Q: Will there be aging?
Q: Can a rogue climb as in CO and launch surprize attacks?
Q: What weapons will be available(manctacher?)
Q: Can players and/or NPC's hide within objects?
Q: Is durability implemented to weapons/armor/equipments in game?
Q: Do wizards get to use staffs in combat animation?
Q: Would rituals be implemented into the game?
Q: What role do deities play in the game? Are the deity specific paragon paths and/or domains available? Or do they plan to implement them at some time?
Q: Will crafting contain mini-games or will it be a straight-forward success or failure thing?
Q: Is it possible to 'romance' NPCs using dialogue options in foundry?

Also I cut and pasted so any spelling errors etc are the original authors:)

    Edit: one from me
Will there be an ingame "monster manual" i.e. when you come across monsters it will open it up in the monster manual.

    +1
I would like to know the answer to some of these questions myself.

Not official but I asked about aging at Gencon and was told that aging would not be in game but you could make your character look older.

    My ones:-

Q:- Would we have shifters, especially werewolves in game at some point? There are some D&D werewolf fans who might want that...
Q:- Some attacks might have long animations. Would I be able to cancel them in between to dodge/utility?
Q:- Are there any alignment locks/gender locks to classes or paths?
Q:- What about titles? Titles based on particular killed monsters(like halfling killer)?
Q:- Crit attacks have always been more special in D&D followed by YES! and Na Na Na Na Na dance. Will we have special animations for crit attacks? Or a special victory pose like FF7?
Q:- Will we have meaningful female characters apart from wife gone berserk(valindra) or damsel in distress? (don't really want them though :p )
Q:- Can dwarven women have beards?
Q:- Will halflings have same jump as other races or will their jump be lower due to height?
Q:- Are there any restrictions, control on how I want to name my character? (Like if I name my character as ModernWarfareMachine would there be any restriction on that?)
Q:- Would you consider power source before designing animations for characters or will you go with the cool look like other MMOs? (Because he video of guardian fighter showed a daily power which looked arcanish as it changed the terrain around it.) Though I think latter is better to get more players.
Q:- How many total number of powers will a paragon path provide? (3 like in pnp or more to make it more customisable in MMO?)
Q:- Will you have traditional animal companions like badger, hamsters, weasels, rats, bunnies and snakes? Or would they be more "cool" looking things?
Q:- Can a character choose their skills like in pnp? Will skills be based on 4e rules (all or none) or 3e rules?
Q:- Would skills give bonus on skill check based on party? (e.g. if my cleric has dungeoneering skill in my party, will I get +1 to it while using mine?)
Q:- Can rogue pickpocket? (Slieght of hand)
Q:- Is there any real big event planned in cannon of story like ressurection of Mystra, Eilistaree or Tyr?
Q:- Is there any specific use for Residium? In crafting? (You already announced Astral diamonds as zen exchange).
Q:- Is there any restriction on mobs murder - as like trolls can only really die by acid or fire or they stand back up?
Q:- Can we nam our crafted item? Can we make it so you can talk with that item? Are there any items or weapons which will level up along with you (even if they are not powerful)?
Q:- Will mobs have roles like in Daggerdale? (I.e. one in mob is lurker who calls other while one controlls etc.)
Q:- Are there positional advantages in combat (Like one thief in front and one in back means more damage due to backstab?)
Q:- Will we have pull push mechanics - especially for telekinetic psionics - in the game?
Q:- How strict is death penelty?
Q:- How will you handle time mechanics - iirc there is a psionic paragon which can slow/stop time or make it fast. Would you rather skip that paragon or implement it somehow?
Q:- Will we have paladins and monks at launch?
Q:- Will we have the new classes like "Avenger", "Invoker" at launch?
Q:- Can we use weapons as holy implements?
Q:- Will we have bards? Can they make the mobs dance with their spells like in DDO? Will bards get subsidies from NPCs (as in pnp they are always welcome to taverns and get free servants?)
Q:- Is it possible to play as a shadow origin(Assassin, Necromancer, shadowmancer, Witch, Blackguard) character?
Q:- Will we have dragonborn race at launch now that it is native to Toril?
Q:- Will we have flying abilities for characters like Scion of Arkion who can fly with dragon wings? Also flying transports like magic carpet etc. at launch?
Q:- Will we be able to fly to earth motes like moonstone mask using above mentioned flying transports?
Q:- Will we have fey-based characters like eladrin, sprites, satyrs, dryads and fey based puzzles in the game?
Q:- Will we have very small D&D characters like pixie as a pet? Will they be a shop item?
Q:- How many paragon paths for each class would be available at launch?
Q:- Can we mix the different builds for a particular class? (Like great weapon fighter and guardian fighter?)
Q:- Will we have underwater adventures or mobs won't be able to attack you in water?
Q:- How custumisable can a divine character be for their particular diety in statics as well as in looks? Can they have a tatoo of their diety? Can they have particular powers from the domain of some particular diety?
Q:- Will the stats/balance in PvP affect the stats/balance in PvE or will they be handled completely seprately?
Q:- Are there any plans for planar travel in after paragon levels (after lvl 60?) like travel to lolth's domain or domain of other gods or the game is based only in sword coast?
Q:- Will you have events which will change the map forever? Like for example, a dragon attacks teh city out of nowhere and snatched away an npc who was part of the campaign and is replaced now by another npc because earlier on died?
Q:- Will the alignments still not play any role in game or has it changed now?
Q:- How can we customise the ability stats? Will they be fixed? Will they have standard array, point buy with minimums based on class or fixed/same for every character?

Not sure where to make my first post so here goes...

I am very happy a friend on facebook sent me some information on Cryptic developing NeverWinter Online. I have played the origianl NWN and NWN 2 to death and both of those games are still installled on my PC and I still play them both from time to time

I had a look at the foundry demo that Andy Velasquez has on YouTube and I can't believe you guys are doing this for an MMO! My wishes have finally come true, thank you Cryptic Studios for making my dream of making mods for an online version of NeverWinter!

    WB Elemberg333,
I just had a notion that actual basic foundry classes put up as youtube or podcast style classes would be an awesome promotion in pre beta limbo.

I have a pretty good idea why they don t talk much about the game...one of the reason could be that it back fired on them in STO when they shared with players about the features they were working on but at the end most of them never saw the light or were put on the back burner, that plus misleading players, broken promises while the cash shop was getting new shinny stuff every month...

What happened over at Star Trek Online was a worst-case scenario...

First and foremost, STO was only allowed TWO YEARS to go from concept to working design, unlike most MMO that have at least twice that long to gestate. When CBS passed the license from Perpetual Entertainment, a company that squandered two years of the license period and managed to produce CG mockups and concept art and had nothing to show of actual development in spite of receiving investment capitol TWICE, the condition of Cryptic not having to pay a license fee, they had to have a working design before the end of the existing license period. Cryptic Studios got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop an MMO based upon one of the biggest IPs in the world. They took that opportunity and ran with it as best they could. Unfortunately, and much to their discredit, two years was just way too short a period for all those grandiose promises made by Jack Emmert to be realized.

At some point, a choice had to be made. Launch with full PvE and PvP on the Federation side, because Federation is front and center of every incarnation of Star Trek, and relegate the Klingon side to PvP with the plan to add Klingon PvE over time post launch. I was originally going to play a Klingon, so I was disappointed with the choice, but in retrospect, I think they did the right thing. Yes, there are people who love Klingon stuff in Star Trek and want to play it exclusively. But Star Trek's narrative approach has always been from a Starfleet perspective. So the Starfleet side gladly was not shafted.

Unfortunately, post launch, only the areas that indicated strongest interest among players were greenlighted for further development. The Klingon side, unpopular due to its unfinished state, took a back burner to everything else.

Then, Atari, who OWNED Cryptic prior to Perfect World, laid off several key people and cut funding of Cryptic down to near-unmanagable levels.

Perfect World bought Cryptic from Atari for fifty million dollars. But it took a while before they started hiring new people that weren't being diverted here to the Neverwinter project. STO has suffered from a content drought since before Perfect World took over. Okay, so it may not be a total drought now. But it is still way less than it was before the Atari lay-offs. And Perfect World is all about Free to Play MMOs, so naturally, top priority after the buy-out was to convert STO to free to play. And we know that Neverwinter will launch as free to play.

Because development priortity is not on STO, it has not been able to gain enough momentum to reach escape velocity needed to pull out of the quagmire of bad blood and perceived broken promises that are the result of many factors outside of Cryptic's control. They are a small team in charge of a big IP with HUGE expectations from fans.

Neverwinter is, I believe, going to turn out a lot better at launch. They've had time to really work on the project, and their conceptual goals have always been attainable with the technology they've been working with since it was officially revealed. At first, it was going to be out at the end of 2011, but that was before Perfect World "convinced" (more like coerced) them to make NWO a full-blown MMO with a full-blown official campaign and full-blown game world with PvP rather than the small-party co-op foundry driven game it was originally announced as being.

And I hate to say it, but it seems that Perfect World's public relations philosophy is "Don't say anything to anyone other than the press." Believe me, Star Trek Online gets very little meaningful communication from Cryptic either. Oh, and as for customer concern about cash grabs and marketing schemes, Perfect World's strategy seems to be "shut them up if they don't shut up themselves and ignore anything they say." There's still a lot of hatred in Champions Online and Star Trek Online over the lockbox gambling thing, which will more than likely be a part of NWO as well, because it works so well for PW in China...

These are the facts as I perceive them. I am really looking forward to NWO when it launches. And because I am a very casual gamer, I thing I will be satisfied with how things work. I've found my niche within STO. So I should be able to find one in NWO...

I think so, but you have people who vehemently hate the game, my advice check the game out make up your own mind before strolling onto the forums, because there is a very vocal contingent left over from STO.net and they spend most of their waking hours finding new ways to hate both STO and Cryptic.

I see no reason why you shouldn't check it out. It doesn't require a subscription now. And the way it works now, you can get anything you want by saving up Dilithium you earn from a wide variety of sources and trading it for Zen. So everything on the Cash Shop is available even to Free players. You really only needs to spend your OWN money if you want to get something quicker than it would take.

So come on over and give it a try.

    It only costs time.

i dont agree with this part if you have been following NW development all this time.

Cryptic devs never made a secret of the fact that they wanted to make NW a MMO. Even in interviews before they kept on saying, "it is a Co-op but our speciality is MMO and we will make it something like that. In future it may even be possible to convert it to MMO..."

After that A-word made the exit [seriosuly, don't name it.. Every time you name it, I have to sell a kitty to Asmodeus - that was the deal him and I made to get A-word off the NW], cryptic devs openly said that they always wanted to make MMO and they convinced PWE to make an MMO. So it was not coercion from PWE side but more like badgering from dev side.

Don't worry about the kitties. I bound Asmodeus and took his evil hooded cloak and have made sure all the kitties have good homes. So the deal is null and void. ;)

And it is entirely possible that some of my details are incomplete. I took a break from following NW for a while. Before I did, the plan was small-party multiplayer with Foundry at the center. I didn't really pick back up with even semi-regular visits until after Perfect World bought Cryptic from they-who-I-won't-name-to-avoid-making-you-worry-about-the-kitties and it was officially declared that NWO would be a full blown MMO with full-blown yadda yadda yadda... IF it was always their desire to go that route, then more power to them for being able to do it...

Bottom line though, They've had time to make sure they do it right. Something they didn't have the option for with STO due to the licensing period constraints. I get the impression that it would have cost a fortune to purchase a full license period renewal.

As much as I loathe the Dilithium System and the Dilithium Repetitive Grind, STO remains my favorite Sci-Fi MMO. :) They are and have been adding more ways to gain Dilithium though, which is good for people like me who hate repeating the same things day in and day out. I'd say yes, definitely check it out, if only just to get a glimpse of what is in store for NWO's Foundry.

Keep in mind, STO's foundry is not as advanced as NWO's is and will be. NWO's Foundry is the next phase in evolution to the Cryptic Foundry system, incorporating new technologies and functions.

Hey man, very happy to see you here, I'd like to hear any of your thoughts about the game, regardless of whether or not they pertain to questions specifically asked here. Stupid stuff like mounts and zones you like :)

Anyways it's 2013 now so don't be afraid to stop by and chat every once in a while :)

I was just wondering, sirsitsalot, if it is still worth checking out STO? I missed that MMO for some reason and I am a huge Star Trek fan...

I'm a really big Star Trek fan. Actually, I'm a big fan of just about every niche genre available on the market - DnD, Star Trek, Star Wars, Cabbage Patch Kids.

Okay, just kidding about the cabbage patch kids.

    But about Star Trek.
I just started playing it a week or two ago. I originally only jumped in because I wanted to check out Foundry options, in anticipation of this game. I was pretty disappointed to see that it had a HUGE requirement to start a Foundry project, in an in game currency called Dilithium.
However, after only one or two weeks of playing on a VERY casual schedule, I've started raking in my first bit of Dilithium. Access to the Foundry is in sight.
I have gripes about some particulars in Star Trek - mostly, I don't like seeing Lock Boxes shoved in my face every drop, and a limit of only 1 free character slot seems pretty harsh. I don't particularly like the currency restriction on access to the Foundry, but it's not as bad as I thought at first. I'm also not sure how much the Foundry is limited to free to play players - as I haven't unlocked it yet.

Star Trek is really fun so far. I like free-flying around Sector Space, jumping into distress calls where the Borg invade or the Klingons encroach on nuetral zone space.

I DO NOT LIKE the restrictions on the Foundry and the lockboxes.

Furthermore, once I saw that ships were for sale in the store, I lost any interest in end-game grind and PvP. I'm simply not going to invest time or money in a game where I can buy power.

I just hope that they monetize NWO differently than STO. STO is a really fun game - but I'm not tempted to spend money on the game. And that's mostly because they're trying to shove purchases down my throat around every corner.

I don't mind buying things from a game I like. Which is why I am usually more prone to pay for a subscription than I am to invest money in microtransactions for a free to play game. I can even stomach a certain amount of Pay to Win for a long time - I played DDO for years until very recently, when it simply became too much (among a very long list of other problems).

They CLEARLY sell power in the store in Star Trek Online. Which makes me very skeptical about the future of Neverwinter. I have a belief about Free to Play games... that they all become Pay to Win at some point. So far I can't bring a single example to the table that goes against this theory. Maybe Neverwinter will be the first.

    Probably not, tho.
But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it til it hits that point.

So "Squez", what was the best moment you had producing Neverwinter? Was there a single moment when you said to yourself: "Wow, this game's going to be a hit!"?

There is a reason this is called forgotten forums. The heavenly bodies revolving around the forgotten forums sometimes are sighted in the night skies by the people living here, and many do give divine discourses.

One of the earliest and rarest of heavenly body has been the king-killer star(ooc halley' comet) which is known as stormshade. Another meteroid was once sighted for a few days and was named Diaoxiane by those who conversed with it.

A frequent heavenly body by the name of crypticmapolis has been sighted very frequently for a few recent years, but it i unknown when the sightings will stop and when it will reappear again.

And now we have another heavenly body. Its appearance has caused fear and doom among common populace. Some wizards have divined that it is the rarest of rare of heavenly body - the Black Hole. Mayhaps the heavenly body has already disappeared or mayhaps the heavenly body is easing itself to cause the fear and Doomsday prophecy that its appearance caused to settle down - we will never know. Mayhaps we will continue living our peaceful lives in forgotten forums as we always have.
