    Since we're only going to be able to play control mages at the release, will charisma do anything for us spell-slingers? Or should one focus only on int. and maybe con.?

    Only the internal testers know at this time. But if they release anything where they show that stat for wizard or other arcane spellcaster character creation, and anybody finds this, please post it!

    I think I read somewhere that primary, secondary and tertiary characters will be(or are) described during character creation. So when you create character, the stats will show there what are they supposed to do - increase dps, increase crit rate, increase range or something

    Because they didn't make a 4E equivalent of True Necromancer of course! Once you go multi-class prestige TN, you never go back baby! ;)

    I was a necromancer a hundred and twenty years ago, a necromancer of Selune. But I soon saw the error of my ways and repenet and gave up my life to be reincarnated (that and constant rage of other PC of me being an undead mage(non-elven) for a goddess who fights undead).

    Then I reincarnated and because I was so devoted to Selune in life and in death, I became a cleric of her again. Ah! dear goddess. I would damage my soul for you! And it will be worth it!

    EDIT: btw, real cause was I met a better necromancer who told me only Divine Clerics can truly understand the undead - mages are just feeding cunningly at superficial knowledge. That was actually the true motivation to become a cleric.

    I'm a fan of second edition myself. The best way to see 4E in those terms is to view mages as picking from a list of "spell like abillities" they can use at will, getting more options as they level up, but only being able to have so many powers active at one time, combined with a number of "once a day" abillities that are more powerful.

    Look at the 30th level mage above (which is pretty uber) and you'll notice he has a number of attacks listed, which combined with his other/support type abillities represent his entire knowlege of magic. He has less spells than a 2E wizard generally would, but can use them constantly.

    In 4E you can pretty much lob your magic missles/chromatic orbs/etc... constantly which is like a fighter swinging his sword or an archer shooting his bow, your bigger moves like say fireballs might be usable once per "encounter" (as designated) and then you might have other powers that can only be used once per play session or adventure. This is balanced by other classes having their own array of powers which work similarly.

    It's an interesting approach, and generally means that mages always have something they can do, and have to worry less about conserving spells, or running out of magic (especially at the low levels) and turn into a lame archer throwing darts. :)

    It works paticularly well for an MMO where you don't want to clutter an interface with 20 million differant commands and spells (since you have to ract quickly) and justifies letting you run around spamming attacks to grind mobs and such.

    That said nothing is ever likely to replace 2E (highly customized when I GM) and all of it's options in my mind, and despite mixed reviews I tend to think NWN2 is the kind of D&D simulators (using 3.0/3.5 rules). I love my Yuan-Ti pureblood Warlock in NWN2, sadly I doubt any other game will let me play a character like that. ;)

    When Neverwinter comes out I'll probably main a Swordmage or Control Wizard (which looks fine to me). I might do cleric depending on what it looks like when it's developed. Truthfully a lot of my favorite deities from FR have effectively gone the way of the Dodo bird, so that kind of puts a damper on things. For example I kind of liked Lathander as a quintessentially good deity, and the symbolism inherant in the entire thing, he's been replaced by another of the FR sun deities who always struck me as being kind of a jerk. :)

    Maybe I'll goof off occasionally as an RP "troll" playing a wizard, and claiming to be the one and only spellcasting cleric of Ao. Sadly in an MMO I wonder how many people would get that joke if I mentioned it. :)

    I'll also miss playing a benevolently insane warrior-mage (in PnP) who claimed to be a straight warrior, who "knew a wizard" who could cast spells for the party... played by a handpuppet he kept in his pocket. Whenever he cast I RPed him pulling out the puppet and having it wave it's wand and make the spell happen. He was generally a support/buff/divination caster which is how I justified making ot work (he didn't use a handpuppet to throw fireballs in combat).

    Ok, ok, new mage. A mage that does the same amount of damage as Great Weapon Fighters!

    I do hope that the wizard will be as awesome as it was in Dragon age: Origins. I really like to throw around short-range AoE spells like Cone of Cold. I don't really care for defensive spells, as i usually leave the defensive part to the tank (Alistair). Same goes for healing and buffing, i leave that mostly to Wynne (the healer-mage in Da:O). I do make sure to have a very basic healing capacity though, to lessen my chances of someone dying because Wynne isn't quick enough.

    I would actually love to se a Blade Singer build or a Swordmage class become available. Either one of these would be great.

    Replied there. Basically (Avandra, Ioun, or Vecna, Raven Queen) are not present in Forgotten realms. Celestia of forgotten realms is not seven peak but three peak with Bahamut being under Torm. etc.

    There is an official list of Greyhawk deities converted to Forgotten Realms deities. Tell me your Greyhawk deity and I will see if I can dig the current 4e Forgotten realm deity for it. For example Avandra iirc was corresponding to that god who wanders in Chauntea's realms and works under her. etc.

    I picked <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> because if I could play a Necromancer, I want to spin him as one who resurrects the dead(his summonings) and gives them a chance to wreak vengeance/justice on those that brought them death in the most satisfying of ways...

    Reminds me, <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> was scouted by Tyr but Tyr died so Bane won.

    Definately miss the enchanter class from Everquest 1. If they have that build-class available i would play that as my main.

    Enchanter and Illusionist focused Wizards aren't too far off at times. Though we aren't sure what selections they will have in-game for Wizards inside the class yet. But you might wanna try a Control Wizard that picks Enchantment or Illusion based abilities.

    Necromancer. Super fun idea. Gain bonuses upon surrounding death, can reanimate dead mobs as undead pets, can slightly self heal as well and heal it's summons. It would be cool to have a kind of commander type caster whose play-style was summoning pets raised from those you've killed.
    action point generation - mobs dieing nearby
    At wills - life drain that does light damage and self heals a moderate amount/deathburst that is a small radius aoe centered on caster that does more damage to those with lowest health and slightly heals nearby undead pets.
    Encounters and daily abilities can be undead creation from fallen mobs, pet buffs, and aoe damage.

    What do you guys think?

    So far, only wizard is released in the MMO, but these specialist classes surely could be done.

    Actually....Mage is from Heroes of the Fallen Lands and Necromancer/Nethermancer were added with Heroes of the Shadow.
