Centaur WOULD be cool, because I can't offhand think of any MMORPG that has them as a playable race. Of course the reason for this it would require an entirely new model/skeleton with a complete set of animations, (IE a lot of work)
Agreed, I'd actually PLAY Neverwinter if something other than a bipedal race was here. Centaurs FTW!
/also like Averial elves or pixies, for those AD&D fans.
I also voted for Gnome. Although 'reiwulf' I will agree we should have free options available, however I do see quite a few Dragonborn although perhaps less moon elves. I suspect the reason is Dragonborn you require to purchase to acquire, yet those wanting an Elf have two free options which are still quite good--cryptic needs to add a small additional trait to Moon Elves.
At first I wanted to see Minotaur yet realized the Dragonborn would be diminished if that occured or it likely place them into a similar pay only option. Then I realized Gnomes offers up the perfect contrast to the existing races offered today, similar to Elves could have 2 generally available and one purchased that is more rare, that perhaps includes an additional trait, diverse skin tones & hairstyles.
Seems the majority currently agree with me. Gnomes leading the pact at >18% of the vote.
Only two proposed races have nostalgia for 100% of fans of all ages.
Humanoids and gnomes.
I'll admit I can't argue with the above comment -- it likely has a lot to do with what is still the largest precentage of the popular unscientific poll that was open over the summer.
... Deep Gnomes are also in 5E and are missing from the poll. Given that the next campaign module should be Underdark focussed (as that's the next PnP story), they are also a good candidate.
That is what I'm thinking. If a new race is introduced during Underdark, you'd think there'd have to be an Underdark tie-in. And the only playable races I know of in Underdark not already present are gnomes and kobolds...well, and duergar, but that's not a new race, just a dwarf alt.
The other obvious option would be aasimar - we have tieflings already, and the Mod 8 content is supposed to focus on demons, so that also would make sense from a story perspective. If we were going to get genasi, I'd think they'd have used the Mod 6 content as a springboard for that.

Even though we are not getting a new race this mod, I am wondering if the next race may not be the Ilithid, as there seem to be lots of models for them running around the new underdark city. So it would not be too hard for them to translate it to a playing character.
no shock, they have to do *new* work to make a new race. Since Gnome is the only race in the 5e PHB that isn't already represented, my money's on one or more varieties of Gnome. Dragonborn is in the PHB too - it's not out of the realm of possibility, but I think it's most likely they'll put out the core races before shifting to the expansion ones. But, all the talk about D&D playable races from other worlds - you can just stop that talk now, they'll only put in races that WotC has made PLAYER races in the FR lore. So... you won't see Minotaurs or Warwhatevers from Eberon or Mind Flayers (never an official player race) or Vampires or Were-critters. At best, they may someday introduce lycanthorpy as a curse or disease (I doubt it, it would require to much creativity), but never as a player race.
Genasi were introduced as a 5e player race in Elemental Evil, so maybe them. But, I'd bet on Gnomes being first.

-Genasi for the MOD 6-7.
-Aasimaar (to fight against evils vilains or gnomes/deep gnomes(native we already have the drows). MOD 8.
Please make Illithid a playable Race!!!
p.s. I voted Other because I didn't see gnome until after I voted. But now there doesn't seem to be a way to view or change my vote.

There is a better way the Necromonger way...
