Hopefully its not the type of patch that makes roll backs the hardest thing to do. Sometimes roll backs are not possible. Mike logged into his main when the game went back up to have a look at the nerfs and he said he lost all sorts of stuff.

    Worrying turn of events.

I agree with the need to shut down quickly, but it's a testiment to not having things liked well in the offices. There's no reason why this thread should have popped up after the shut down. TT could have been making the thread as they prepared to take the game down, still might have given us a chance to help more. Heck, I knew the game was going down but didn't know why or how badly the event was until this thread came up but when I heard it was going down I jumped right here. Anyway, I just hope they can fix it now and we won't lose any of our stuff. I know there are many here who've been around longer than I how have stuff to lose.

if opening a character spreads the issue shutting down fast is the best approach, my guess is that we will have a rollback and then vet benefits will be added to all LTS later.
why not just add 1000 days to all LTS accounts, seems like a simpler solution

Well for example when they delete code thats no longer needed and dont keep a backup. Its happened in WoW it happened in SWG it could easy happen here saying the dev team is Crush and the G-Force Gerbils.

Both the Pandapocalypse and NGA caused toons and gear to vanish and roll backs couldnt fix it.

Dodged a bullet there, was out and about while patching was going on. I guess it wouldn't be Cryptic if it weren't broken, right?

Keep at it guys, you'll fix this issue I'm sure.

In an ideal world, this would've been the way it went down. Unfortunately, with the way our schedules work, I was driving to work when this happened; LordGar, for his part, was more focused on the actual shutdown and emailing other Cryptic folks with details, rather than on messaging it.

I'm sorry that we weren't able to provide more immediate messaging, but we had limited resources at that point, and they were focused on the issue rather than messaging it.

I'm pretty sure all the data are available for a rollback - but just rolling back to prepatch won't solve the issue. They're apparently trying to not only regain the lost data, but also fix the patch so that it doesn't all happen again the moment the patch is reloaded. (It does little good to pull things out of the bit bucket, after all, without correcting the condition that led to their being dumped in there in the first place!)

And that, mes amis, is what's taking so long...

Getting the fix implemented should be less disruptive than bringing it back up right away, and dealing with the issues and having to bring it back down later.

Quick update: We've identified the issue, and we're putting the solution onto our internal test servers. If that works, we'll be able to provide a timeline, and move ahead with implementing that on the live servers.

Though, adding the costume set into the store officially after this might be a nice apology.

Biggest concern is the items that were in that bag on the fifth slot. The bag appears to be transparent on the fifth slot but not sure if the contents are still there.

If you clicked that slot, you got a store popup window asking if you would like to purchase that slot. So...it was empty.

Lol at all the people complaining...its down big deal. I want it up as much as anyone but at the end of the day its better to fix things while its down, over fixing things in the future to end up having the same thing happen again. Stop complaining and let the dev's do the job. Go outside or go make food and watch a film or god forbid be sociable for a while.

*Note - this is only aimed at those complaining about the same thing that was posted earlier in the topic about shutting it down before saying why etc etc

It's the latter, actually, although we didn't intend it as an apology. I don't pre-announce new C-Store items and discounts (whereas I can pre-announce D-Store changes and changes to how LTS works), so we don't schedule those blogs to auto-publish. In this case, I was going to publish the Robot Samurai blog when I got in in the morning -- but with the issues, I thought it best to wait until we knew more.

Now that we've identified the problem, we've published the blog.

The set is there on the web version of the store too: http://co.perfectworld.com/cstore

You can't click on it for details right now, but I suspect that's because the servers are down, because you can't click on anything for details right now.

That reminds me, i dunno if it was a result of pre-patching or something else but i noticed last night that in the tailor when i click the tick to only show what i owned. It would show items i didn't own and when i hovered over them they weren't shown on my toon but it was a little annoying to have around 30 or 40 extra pieces i couldn't use mixed in with what i could use.

Samurai Robot? Oversized Katana? Gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie! I know when I get stipened from when it's time for me to get some (i'm going gold tomorrow anyway) I plan to use that set... and use it well! Plus, I Plan to make a ninja themed toon (Thats right, even with the dodge changes baby!) based on a username i've used for a few years (Ken Kurobasa if anyone is wondering, and yes, that is a corruption of KuroTsubasa. Just didn't roll off the tongue as well to me.) I mean it, oversized katanas for everyone! And, Sledge hats.

I am new to this game, and so far I am liking it a lot. I also wanted to point out that I am very surprised at the amount of information the developers give out to the community in regards to downtime and server problems.

Some MMO's would have posted something like "Emergency Downtime No ETA available" with perhaps an edit after 5-6 hours stating that there is "still no ETA" with no more information given.

The way TT is handling this is remarkable imho.

Only very poor or poorly run online games do this, every game I play has very vocal devs from most departments, art, programming, and even the big boy managers of the projects jump in every once and a while when they have something good to share. If you are playing a game with zero dev activity on the forums, that is a sign to find elsewhere to play!

Welcome then to Champions Online. Don't let the doom and gloom scare ya, thats why we got the Celestial powerset!
Though to be serious, Champions is just in a very long dry spell, one day STO and NWO will have some production halting and be stuck to mini patches and all that effort will go into Champions... The voices in other people's heads tell me so. Anyway, enjoy a very extensive character customization system where you can make basically whatever comes to your mind... or your imaginary friend Sergio's mind.

I'm honestly not sure how long a rollback would take. Additionally, it's a path of no return -- everyone who played during that half hour would irrevocably lose that play time.

I suppose potentially that might be less of an inconvenience for players, technically, but it depends on how much people value that half hour. If someone got a lucky drop, that person would probably value it a ton.

    WOw.. you're kidding.

The devs are going to reposition all of those inventory tables on updated character data?

    0.o

Good luck with that. Seriously... That will be a feat and a large pain in the exit-only.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something. The rollback would make the most sense... recover the pre-patch game data, reinstitute it, fix the patch on PTS, reapply next week.

I'm just gonna say this. After a year of playing I FINALLY got a chance to fight Qwyjibo and managed to finally get his perk, plus reward money. But if the choice was between never getting that perk and getting back my potentially lost Back up devices and costume unlocks in that bag, I can live with losing the perk for good.

If they aren't going to revert to pre-patch data (that doesn't include the most-current patch), that means they will have to take the pre-patch inventory tables and dig out the 5th bag contents from the character data.. and add back the bags and their contents to the current data. Which, of course, will overwrite anything anyone added to any new bags during the 30 minutes of play time too. So they'll have to either script it out or hand-jam it.

Either way, That's.. a LOT of work for trying to not make people lose 30 minutes of play-time.

    Not really worth it, IMHO.
